Can we take a second to appreciate how lucky we were with the Pascal 10th gen cards? It was right at the beginning of the PC hype that has culminated in the shit-show of 30th gen, the demand was really starting to ramp up, but still production was way more than enough, so people could get pretty much ANY video card, and in the exact version they wanted. One of the biggest increases in performance from one generation to another, all at barely increased price (by today's standards). No scalpers, no shortages, good prices, excellent performance... F in chat for Pascal 10th gen, folks, and for the better days of 2017... T.T

I love mine. It OCs great runs cool. I have it on an open bench so sound is important to me. It is quiet even when it goes to 70% fan. My RAD fans make more noise. As someone with the STRIX 1080Ti, I LOVE having the headers for the extra fans. The problem with gaming is that the CPU doesn't do much, so getting airflow in the case when the GPU starts getting hot is an issue. Apart from which, if the CPU is busy, then the intake air is also warm. The extra fans help pull extra cold filtered air in and, with a well ventilated case, it maintains positive pressure and keeps temperatures reasonable (I usually see about 66-67C on the card in the case while gaming)

So this is the part where I just have to ask... if you were going to full block watercool it anyway, should you just go for a Founders instead of another version? or should you consider a beefed up board (for example, the strix has a two 8 pin connectors vs a 6 + 8 that the founders have, iirc) and why? Thanks for the input, Paul, love your vids! (y)

I've had the Aorus GTX 1080Ti Xtreme for well over a year now & I'm pretty please with it. I REALLY like the all metal construction of that shroud and the accents are just thin enough that they're not too distracting from the rest of my build white & blue themed build inside my Tower 900. Hey Paul! What I would like to see on a This AIB GPU vs That AIB GPU comparison/showdown/roundup/whatever, is an evaluation of cooling performance at two or three different noise levels. Since you are dealing with different numbers of fans, fan sizes, and rpm ceilings, using a fixed rpm or fixed percentage doesn't really tell us anything. But which one cools best at, say, 40db? That, I want to know.

One of the things that put me off the Strix is the VRM and VRAM cooling solution. I know it's just my paranoia but having no direct contact from the heatsink to the VRAM and VRM bothered me. Asus did the same thing with the 980Ti Matrix, I was shocked to find the card had no cooling on the VRAM and only a small plate on the VRM.

I went with Strix and I absolutely love the card. I was lucky so no coil whine, it's cool and super quiet. Gigabyte has lost its mind when it comes to the design, there is no elegance at all. I like industrial things, but they totally overdid it this time.

You forgot to add warranty period as a key deciding factor.

Really love the Asus FanConnect headers and I will definitely struggle on my next GPU upgrade if no other manufacturer implemented a feature like that.

As someone who is planning to maybe water cool: I would get the Gigabyte, because there is no stupid warranty void sticker on the cooler screws and the TDP limit can be increased to whopping 150%!

So you also tested the Normal Aorus 1080ti and not the Extreme version, but you tested the OC model of the Asus 1080ti instead of the non OC version. Reason for that?

I'm a little late to the party, but I think there is one thing paul didn't mention or if he did I missed it. Make sure the card you buy fits! I've seen lots of posts on reddit and build videos on youtube where someone buys a huge graphics card to put in a small case and its either too long or too tall. I just bought a evga ftw3 3080 and although I have a phanteks enthoo evolv which is a big case I had to move my pump/res up to the next set of holes on my radiator because the card was so long it wouldn't fit. Just remember that if you have custom cooling or if you have a small form factor case!

I hadn't bought a Gigabyte GPU in several generations; I only got one this time because I lucked out on Newegg the day it launched when all the other cards were still sold out. It is the Aorus Extreme version and it is an absolute beast. I ended up at +75 core +400 mem clock %120 power limit 85°C temp limit. It stays at 2052 Mhz and never went over 62°C. I immediately got a second one and the OC stayed stable with two cards synced with the top card now never going over 66°C, and the bottom card (the first one I got) still around 62°C max. In actuality they both are usually closer to 60°C. Great cards overall, I highly recommend the cards. They are massive 2 1/2 slot cards though so it pays to know they'll fit in advance.
