Interesting you recognized that. I will have to do a series of tips on it. To hit a bad shots, slices, pulls, pushes etc. I have to think of something to make me hit that bad shot. So wouldn't that be why we hit that bad shot? If we know why then we can easily fix it. Well, this is the way I have thought for years which makes understanding it a lot easier. Stay tuned. I will actually do this once my season starts again.

I was thinking of getting my lead heel down before the downswing, sliding the hips, and many other things. I tried this in my backyard, and within a few swings I was making better contact, and no fat shots. Best of all, everything else seems to automatically fall in place while only thinking of feeling the heel. You seem to have a knack for identifying a key movement that makes it all come together. Absolutely the best golf tip I ever received. I went from being a pretty good golfer to hitting everything fat with a balloon fade. I was ready to give up golf when I came across Paul's videos. I went to the course and started concentrating on lifting my right heel and also started turning my wrist to the left to square the club and like magic I was back to hitting a nice draw and no fat shots. The heel lift makes you shift your weight to the front foot and allows you to hit the ball straighter and farther. Thanks

Topping is lifting or buckling your arms due to hitting it to hard. The harder you hit, the more you will look to see what you hit. Do you top it when you swing easy. Doubt it. So tone it down. Work on and get the swing then speed up your legs and hips for more power instead of hitting harder with your arms. Paul, I had to share an experience I just had. I am from Pittsburgh and went to Tampa this past Wednesday to get away from the Northern chill. We played Wednesday afternoon, and then 36 on Thursday and 36 on Friday. During the first 18 on Friday the wheels came off. I was topping and/or blading and/or chunking behind my shots to the point where I was ready to just sheath my clubs and ride along with my friend, wallowing in self pity. Then I remembered this simple drill you gave here, and instantly I started hitting the ball! Oh sure, I still had the occasional misses, but that was due mostly to either NOT doing the drill, or not timing it correctly. However, the end result was that I was able to finish the round without giving up, and I actually birdied the last two holes by being able to make solid weight shift on my approach shots. I cannot thank you enough for this very simple and wonderful drill. I still have some stuff to work out, but you are truly a gifted instructor. Thanks so much for your fantastic instructions!

Hi Paul, my practice swings always felt good but my iron swings resulted in fat shots so I’ve been trying to work out what I do in my practice swing that I don’t do during my actual shot swing and I have to tell you, I’m not lifting my heel as I strike through! Can’t wait to confirm this during my next round so thank you so much for an amazing video!!
@paulwilsongolf3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it. Yes, the practice swing there is nothing to hit so you move your body and allow the club to swing through. Put the ball down and you try to hit it. Your arms move faster than your body in life so they trap you on the back foot resulting in fat shots. This will fix you in under 1 minute. Let us know if I'm right.

Like most beginners I watched tones of KZbin golf videos. But honestly I think yours is the best. You make it simple and explain it clearly with exercise to follow. Your approach is very practical and how you make it possible for all to follow. Love it. I am learning so much from it. Thanks so much.

Very good. This is a big one. I have literally had people come to my that have been hitting it fat for 30 years or more. Under 1 min. they are fixed. As you get better at using the lower body the fat shots will become more and more rare.

Paul you’re my favorite instructor on KZbin your concepts of the swing are so simplified, I will try this tomorrow and hopefully my straight 7 iron shot that goes a sad 130 off my best fat shots will see some distance and speed. Looking forward to it. You also instruct with this delightful elegance that I enjoy to learn from.

Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. Get rid of the fat shots. Then it's about getting your more distance. To do this work on the release first. Tee it up. 7 iron. Get every ball hooking first. This will deloft the club and loosen the wrists. Once you can do that consistently you switch to body rotation to straighten it out. Follow these steps: Wrists = Spin (Step 1) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmXZcoajhN-ehsk kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2mZaYSpidF6qpY kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3mop2p9br9oY5I Body = Direction (Step 2) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIebpoaQZpt1r9U kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJXTmaeeeLZsjK8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2mpqYaQiNJ-e9k (secret tip)

I was having the round of my life last weekend, but right around the 14th hole on, I was hitting my irons fat after fairly decent tee shots. Chalked it up to lack of concentration and fatigue. I did the heel concept at the driving range on grass, and WOW!!! Best tip I've ever had, and so easy! So my cadence tempo count during the backswing is "Belt Buckle, Shoulder Turn, HEEL", with heel as the trigger for the downswing. Thank you, thank you!!!!!
@paulwilsongolf2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found me. So what happened was you were confident with driver and trying to hit fairly hard. This got you using the arms. You were getting away with it with driver but it was getting you stuck on the back foot with irons. You'll see that now you know what to do the fat shots will be a thing of the past.

This tip here! Holy smokes! I’m pretty happy with my swing right now but I was still so inconsistent with full power shots. Thin, fat, hands trying to correct mid swing.. This was immediate. Getting up on the ball of my trail foot before contact and I was flushing my 3i and 4i… I’m a high handicapper with players irons and the sound instantly changed at impact. Amazing.
@paulwilsongolf2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found me. This is immediate. I'm amazed people struggle hitting fat shots. I have been fixing people in 1 min. since 1991. Just do a few practice swings before each shot so you get the feel for it long into the future.

I've watched countless videos on how to address the problem I have of hitting my irons fat and decided to try this. I make a conscious effort to lift my right heel and it really gets me to start my body shift/turn early and get the proper lag. Paul is not exaggerating...this will almost instantly fix the problem...wish I would have found this earlier. Man, it feels great now to strike my irons pure. Thanks, Paul!!

Hello Paul. I'm going to join the love-fest below. I've been fatting, chunking, topping, thinning and cussing for a very long time. Contact has always been my biggest problem and I'd basically resigned myself to 'just sucking at this game'. This one tip has improved everything. Contact, rhythm, control and distance are all dramatically different. I cannot thank you enough!
@paulwilsongolf2 жыл бұрын
These shots are so simple to fix. It's truly mind boggling that people struggle with these. If you are also hitting it thin and topping you are hitting with your arms. Need to get them out of the swing or you will never get this. So get the lower moving. This is your power source. You will get rid of all fat shots. If you are using your legs and hips you don't need to hit. No hitting means you don't have to come out of it so you will reduce thin and topped shots too. So stay focused. When you turn the arms off completely it's a weird different feeling that you need to get used to but as you keep hitting amazing shots with a feeling of nothing you will want to get used to it.

@paulwilsongolf3 жыл бұрын
Definitely, this will fix fat shots in seconds. You need to get the weight off this back foot more through impact. I love teaching better players who took a break because you already know how to use the body. Taking the break then getting back into it activated your arms. Need to turn them completely off then you will use the body again. Easy.

Yeah I have been fixing fat shots for over 30 years in under 1 mins. This is so simple yet people will sit there for years trying to fix it. So simple. Glad you liked it. You can still lift the heel and put too much pressure on the inner edge of the big toe so it's vital the weight is shifting.
@roadfert2 жыл бұрын
@@paulwilsongolf so basically you don’t want the weight on the inside of the big toe but spread evenly?
@paulwilsongolf2 жыл бұрын
Well the weight is shifting through impact into the forward foot (even). So forward foot and inner edge of the big toe. Don't press down on the big toe giving you more weight on this back foot. If so, you will still hit it fat.
