I like a lot of your lessons but I disagree with the grip having to be neutral for the fact that everyone is built differently. i play off 4 handicap which is not great but ok but I have tried everything and I always come back to a slightly strong grip. I have seen countless videos on grips and the come down to the conclusion of wherever your arms hang that's most likely be your grip style be it strong or neutral. I like to hear your thoughts on that , I am always open to ideas, theories and thoughts on golf but I never believe everything I hear till after I have tried it out.

@@JACKBRUNET True. But if you focus on comfortability right away, you'll be doomed. Everyone can do neutral. It's a lie if people say it's not possible. It's not a death grip, which is what 90 percent of people do.

Thanks very much. I need help as I have a tendency to contract my arms shortening the length of my swing and altering the proper swing plane. In many of my swings, I feel like that I'm chopping down on the ball. Secondly, my posture gets too far forward. I'm exhausted by the end of the round. Certainly not effortless golf.

@@JACKBRUNET 4 H/C NOT GREAT!!! that makes my 9 H/c Horrible... I agree with you on the grip,, I have a strong feel grip due to my nerve damage in the left hand,,and can't have my left hand be over lapped in any way with my right, so I have to use a baseball grip,,, that feels like a strong grip and as the R/hand is lower just a tad more so is my R/shoulder .that give me a draw, not always a controlled one. I've had to and still am finding my body swing, with bad back and all. I can still hit long.If I don't want the draw I push it straight right..If I try hitting straight, I draw.. it's a constant work in progress, still get on in two,, it's my putting that keeps me from my goal of scratch.. and I have had scratch when my swing is on song and my putting seems effortless.. you being off 4, I'm sure you have had days where you were, under the card..and bad day when you got that horrible 9

My thoughts are I teach a neutral grip so you can have loose wrists and no other flaws or compensations in your swing. Strong grip and loose wrists you will hook every shot. So you need a flaw or compensation to get the ball on target. This means you need to practice ... a lot to get the timing. How do I know this? I had a strong grip and I could never take days off. I like things simple. If people want to do a strong grip and practice a lot I could care less. I have other stuff to do so I like to not have to practice and still hit 80% fairways.

This has got to be the most important tip of all Paul’s tips for me and the last one I discovered. I was doing the loose wrist body swing with a very strong grip and getting lots of inconsistencies . I found this video and recognized how different my grip was to Paul’s. I went to the range and after about 10 or fifteen balls it clicked. I can not believe how such simple issue had me so screwed up. It feels like it shouldn’t work but it does and I am slowly getting used to the feel of the new grip. I would encourage everyone to compare their grip to the one Paul explains in this video.

I’m not a person that comments on videos, but I felt inclined to share with you. I recently started playing again in mid July after a 15 year layoff and have had many struggles with consistency. I’ve watched a lot of videos and this one is the only one that has provided results like this! Driver, iron, or wedges. It doesn’t matter! I hit two buckets yesterday and have never been so encouraged by the results with anything. 85% of my shots from two buckets did what I was trying to do with the golf ball. Thank you so much! You’ve made a believer out of me and I’ll definitely be sharing your channel with my friends.

Paul although I am left handed I could follow your instructions easily, I must have watched 30 + grip videos but none were as clear and concise as yours. I was heartened to learn that because I’m predominantly right handed in life and this hand being my stronger dominant hand this will in fact assist my left handed golf game! As soon as winter turns into spring I will be in my garden using your grip tip. One day I hope to visit Vegas again from the UK and when I do it would be a pleasure to book you for a lesson. Glad you found me and glad you like the tip. I just thought this view would be great to show exactly how to do it. Yes, if you are left handed playing right you have an advantage due to the top hand being stronger. Usually if the bottom hand is stronger the person (me included) will pull it back to the inside. Definitely keep working on it as much as you can so it's comfortable. With the new grip on also do this drill too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIvIhaSZr5ejo6c

Hi Paul First I want to thank you for all of the great videos. Secondly I did watch your video on the neutral grip and have been using that since the golf season started up here in Nova Scotia. Big difference in having control. I did watch the the videos on using your body not your arms. Not until today did I really try to do that. It didn't happen on every shot, but on the ones I used my body more, those shots were really good. As well my back did not bother me at all today. It does feel effortless. I'm here to tell anyone who is reading this that this works for anyone, any skill level and any age. Someone told me today that this is the way the pros are going. Since most of them are in great shape anyway, this will only extend their career and take their game up a level. It works. Make it a goal this year by August you will be doing this consistantly. Thanks again

Thank you Paul, this is ultimately the very best explanation as to why we need grip the club in the manner explained. Every other instruction I've ever browsed misses the point of the need to weaken the strongest hand in the golfers grip. Once explained the average golfer latches onto this very important piece of information & retains same for time. You're a champion, Cheers - Greg

Thanks so much. I thought this would be a good view for everyone. It all starts with the grip. I don't see your hands as hands and wrists as wrists. It's hinging mechanism that allows your wrists to hinge and rehinge. It needs to work as a unit. Glad you see it.

Paul, Your lesson on the grip is by far the best I have experienced. The grip has played a significant part in getting my arms from controlling the swing. My body can now work as intended. Making a change to grip does take time and patience. Slowing down my swing a letting my body take over was very helpful. This was a game changer for me. Thanks, Ron

Glad you liked it. It all starts with the grip. It does take a little getting used to if you have been doing it wrong. Just see it as a hinge. So no matter how uncomfortable it is, you want to do it to allow the wrists to hinge and rehinge. Once you get this, yes, you can work on the body. Keep at it.

Glad you liked it. It all starts with the grip. With a neutral grip you can have loose wrists without hitting huge hooks. The wrists hinge and rehinge. A hinge is loose. The looser it is the faster it swings with less effort. Then you attach this arm unit to your body which is coiling and uncoiling. Wow, thank you! Have people not heard the line "it all starts with the grip." Been around forever. Unfortunately, most want to take short cuts. Throw a strong grip on there and hit a couple of hooks thinking they've got it when really it was luck. When I do something I do it right. At the point of getting it you can experiment to see what effect something like a strong grip would do to their swing then assess if they should keep doing it or not. I don't teach bandaids. I don't beleive any cannot learn the swing I teach. This is why I do what I do. Thanks for the promo. I truly appreciate it.

Best golf video ever! I have struggled with wrist hinge for ever. Changing by grip makes the hinge effortless. Two things to note…..forget the 30 balls, its more like 60. Also, rather than looking back at clubhead position at top, look at inside of elbows. If they face up at address, you have it. I added distance to every club, swinging effortlessly.

For those that I get who are having trouble with it I remind them it's not hands on a golf club. The hands and wrists are a hinge. In order for it to hinge and rehinge it needs to be in a neutral position. After saying this then tend to do it no matter how uncomfortable it feels. Just see it a little different and you will get it.

Wow Paul, I gotta say this has been eye opening. I erroneously thought I had a neutral grip. But it was a 10 finger grip with right hand having a lot of power in it. I just followed along to this step-by-step in my room and just did some gentle swings, and I swear I can tell a difference in my wrists already. It's like they are more oily for lack of a better way of describing it. It's like a-ha! Now I can understand more of what you are talking about when you talk about loose wrists. Can't wait to take it to the range to work on some full shots with it. Thanks!

So….. I NEVER comment on videos but can’t help myself on this one. I have had a strong grip for my whole life. I started watching Paul’s videos, went to the range and changed my grip for about half a bucket, didn’t like the result and reverted back to my strong grip. Long story short, I’ve stayed inconsistent until now. I have shaved 12 strokes off my handicap and am hitting the ball more pure than ever. The times I do hit a push fade, I know because I’m all arms trying to hit. I’ve been watching Paul for about a year but didn’t really buy in until recently (mainly struggles with my grip) My advice for all my strong gripped people out there…. Practice at home (a bunch, until it feels comfortable), go the range and stick with it, DONT CHANGE. Once you lay that ground work, the whole loose wrists starts to make total sense. Thanks Paul! Appreciate all of your instruction and time you put into your videos!

Thanks for commenting. Glad you found this tip and stuck with it. As I say it can take upwards of 30 balls in a row to get used to it and get the ball back on target. Because it's uncomfortable most people quit and go right back to their strong grip after 3-4 shots. As you see if you suffer through it and keep doing it will hit it way better and never want to do a strong grip again. Keep up the good work.

You're welcome. Nice hdcp. Here is my advice. Keep it super simple. You get these better players trying to diagnose every morsel of the swing. This is what I used to do and it go me nowhere. Once I made it simple it was game changing. Grip and set up for sure. Coil/uncoil. Hinge/rehinge. Turn your arms off completely in the downswing. Watch your ball. I will tell you exactly how to fix your own swing if you hit a bad shot. This one may help you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZC8d3h_nrOrkM0 Listen carefully to what I say in this tip. This is gold.

Hi Paul, I would like to say thousand thanks for posting this video about grip. I have been following your other posts about hinge and re-hinge, body position etc, and still I didnt get the consistency in my play. Thats until I watched this, and change my grip from Strong to Neutral grip, from interlocked-pinkie to overlapped pinkie, exactly as what you mentioned in the video. Guess what, the day after I change my grip, and I broke 90, and I hit gross 89! From my typical 100-ish score! I feel free-er in my swing, less thinking about my wrist, and I can finish my swing properly. This eliminates my slice problem. I noticed that your teachings are best practiced when we used most, if not all of them, compared to piecemeal. Thanks again Paul!

Glad you found and liked this one. It all starts with the grip. I teach a neutral grip so you can have loose wrists and not hit huge hooks. Loose wrists a big key in what I teach. Yes, you need to follow the pieces and put them together. It's all about building a great swing as opposed to band aids that typically do not work. Stay focused. You are on your way.

Paul - this tip is absolutely genius. The idea that the left hand is in the palm and right hand is in the fingers.... didn’t even take 5 balls to get it and feel comfortable and confident. I am in awe of the simplicity and surprised that the grip isn’t a larger point of emphasis when analyzing the swing. If the grip is off, the rest of the swing doesn’t stand a chance. I am so excited about this, thank you for sharing. All the best.

Glad you see what I am trying to do. Got to balance them out. Once you do, you can hinge and rehinge. Glad it didn't take you too long to get a feel for it. Some students struggle until I remind them they are not hands and wrists. Instead, they are a hinge so no matter how bad it feels they need to do it like that. Once you get this you are off to the races.

I only wish I had found your instruction 30 years ago! I am 66 years young and have been "playing" golf for 30 + years, after having given it up in my teens to do the hippie thing! I came back to golf in my early thirties, and have struggled ever since, despite reading all the magazines, many books and taking lessons from numerous pros! For the last several years I have tried to improve using videos. After being diagnosed with Parkinson's last year, I was about to give it up altogether, but after watching your tips and looking at your sample lessons, I decided to make one last attempt at it by concentrating solely on your Body Swing school of teaching. Your approach to the game is having a profound positive impact on my game, and this lesson on grip is a perfect example of the insight and precision you bring to teaching! I have always known that the first and most important part of the golf setup is the grip. I have tried all ways and watched more tips then I can remember. Mr. Wilson...you have explained the neutral grip(at least in my opinion) in the most simple way and so easy to understand and employee. Because I have worked on my frip so hard it was a minor shift in comfort and I was contacting solid straight shots in about 3 to 4 balls. Thano you so much and I will subscribing to your channel.

Ok so I messaged Paul regarding his 'hitting Irons pure drill' saying I'd give it a go next time I went range. I've just got back but never got chance to try it because I'd decided to follow your 'Neutral golf grip' first. It took a little while to get used to it, felt awkward as I'm used to interlock. I also start to practice 'The Wrist Release Drill'. After about 30 balls I started to relax, then 'boom' 🔥I was creaming my Irons and hybrids down the fairway. Both these changes most definitely changed the way I hit the ball. Thank you for you videos, you are without doubt probably the best tutor on KZbin. 👍

Yeah, you gotta start with the grip. This is how you're attached to the golf club. Make sure your grip is correct, then the set up, then start working on swing positions and drills. Loosen up the arms and then add some body. You can't work on all the positions and drills when you have a bad grip. Keep up the good work and let me know of your progress.

Now Paul, you've got a ton of videos, and I've watched many. Somehow I missed this one. Question: If you were to pick 3 or 4 videos out of your vast collection, for followup to this one, what would they be, in a logical sequence? Glad it was helpful! So many people have a strong grip. So many people struggle with this game. Hmmm maybe there is a correlation. AS you found out it doesn't take long to get used to it. Once you do you it is so much better. Overlap is good too. I don't like the interlock because people sacrifice comfort of the pinky wedged in for the position of the hand. If you can have perfect bottom hand placement while doing an interlock I am okay with that grip.

Hi Paul ... It has been one year and 4 months since I changed to this grip and I have been playing the most consistent golf of my life. I was a good 11-12 handicap most of my life and now I am a 9.1 index at age 64. It is all thanks to owning this grip. I went from a draw player ( with a lot of happy hookers) to a straight almost small fade player. I rarely miss a fairway and my approach shots are just dead straight to the green. Thank you !

I had reverted to a bad position with my dominant (lower) hand, I was wrapping fingers to grip while first rotating the wrist so the palm is facing skyward. Great video. Since I’ve started playing I’ve only played with a really strong grip. On my best shots I can hit it a mile but that’s only a handful of times a round. The rest hooks, fat shots, thin shots, you name it. Changing to a neutral grip has really forced me to use my body to turn and while I don’t have the power I once did I’m looking forward to getting the consistency out of a neutral grip forcing my body to turn through the ball.

Glad you like it. Thanks. That strong grip is tricky as you know. Glad you made the switch. Sure, it's fun hitting some long shots but it's more fun writing lower numbers on your card. Stick with it and perfect it. You can hit the ball a long way with a neutral grip so don't think you can't. Just look at the best driver of all time Mike Dunaway. He had a neutral grip. He hit it longer and straighter than anyone ever flying it 380 with a normal length small head driver. It can be done.

Great tip. And so well articulated. You say exactly what's required. Getting those middle two fingers hooked on the bottom hand and then getting the inside of that thumb against the grip is key. I veered away from this grip recently thinking I felt I would have more speed from the roots of the fingers on the lower hand, almost the base of the palm pushing the grip (on the bottom hand). Great in the house....What a mistake, and what a bad round I played. So I go back and watch some respected player videos, Hogan, Nicklaus, Snead, Watson. Paul you are right. The hooked middle fingers and getting the inside of the thumb against the grip. Thumb curling up a bit. This I think also sets up a nice square palm to the target too. Thank you so much. I also recommend holding the grip using your tip at the top of your back swing, holding it up there, so you can feel if it feels supported and snug, cradled. Thank you so much for explaining it so well.

Thanks so much. This really allows you to set the hinge in the backswing. Holding more near the palm feels powerful but leads to hitting with the arms. You have to go against this feeling or go against human nature telling you to hit. See the hands and arms as a hinging unit. There is not power in a hinge. It just hinges and rehinges. Great. When people aren't comfortable with the grip I have them see it another way. The hands and wrist are not hands and wrists. It's a hinging mechanism like the hinge on your door. And my right hand has never Felt comfortable in my life. I didn't have time to practice but I never do anyway lol. I was able to understand your principle of my right hand going on the way you teach. It actually lets me get my hand comfortably on the club. And prevents a gap between my thumb and forefinger that always comes about in the back swing and The backswing isn't as flat. Anyway I went for eighteen to practice it. Straight after eight hours in the factory, right from the car right to the first tee like usual. I was busting like no other early on. Pga level lol. Typically as per usual it tapers off As I start playing good early on Because then I try too hard. Anyway it was decent overall. The only problem I had FIVE 3 putts and shot seventy three😮😅. Very good. Just see the grip as a hinge as opposed to hands on a club. They allow the club to hinge and rehinge. That's it. Stay focused and let me know if you need help before your tourney.

Well stated Paul I love your videos they are helping me a lot going into my 4th year I'm about a 12 handicap right now just turned 48 yrs. old.... all these videos help a lot, slowly gaining more distance thank you! I was one of those guys who had a strong grip.

Very good. Glad you decided to make the switch. I have some bashers on this one board that don't seem to agree. Oh well, if they want to hit tons of balls that's fine. I have other stuff to do. I literally haven't played since August. I went out the other day and missed 2 fairways by yards and that was just cause I tried to kill it. When I had a strong grip I couldn't take one day off. If I did, it would take me a week to get it back. People seem to think this is my first rodeo. Glad you are on board.

I have watched this video and I can tell you the using of a neutral grip as shown in this video solved a couple of problems. Strangely, Iam a lefty with my right hand dominant. But, regardless, this neutral grip did help me a lot. Thanks.

Since I watched your video on using the correct grip, I slice the ball less than I used to. Thanks Paul for the demonstration on that. I know that is the kind of grip Nicklaus used so it must be a good one,

For a 60 years young guy that grabbed his first club at 50, and knew nothing but the locked pinkies grip, I follow your instructions and dedicated all 100 shots to your approach. What a difference it made in accuracy and consistency!!! Than you for this life changing advice.

You're welcome. If you are hooking it without trying to hook it you have a grip problem so yes, it was a grip problem. Do a more neutral grip and determine based on how much draw you want. Once you get it focus back on your lower body to hit the shots. Won't take long to fix you.

So i mentioned in a previous video a week or so ago the success i was having trying to switch to your style golf swing after playing for 30 years with a not so great swing.. I mentioned before i always had a strong grip and swung hard. Well about a week ago i watched this video and adapted a more neutral grip but kept the interlock and still, especially with my short irons, my miss would be kind of a pull hook. well yesterday i said heck with it and before my round i was swinging the club with the overlapping grip in my yard and you are right i hated it and thought it felt horrible.. (oh and im one of those left handers that plays right handed). But figured what the heck lets give it a shot at the course whats the worst that can happen... Now off the tee i'm the 250 to 260 guy with roll. Yesterday it rained for about 2 hours prior to our round, so it was wet and soft. First hole with the new grip, i striped it right up the middle and really even though i didn't get much roll cause of the wet conditions i was within about 10 yards of where i normally am.. Long story short my drives with the grip in this video and some of your other tips, would have been longer i think, but more importantly my drives and irons were much straighter.. The only "bad" shots i hit were holes that i was afraid to miss left. And not trusting i'd hit it straight (2 times with irons and once with driver) i aimed a little right and guess where i missed..... out to the right.... still in all shot my best score in league play this year a -1 35 last night.. Still a work in progress but so far so good and i like that at 49 years of age i"m not having soreness in my back and neck

Paul.. You have really helped to transform my game with your tips(bought how to hit driver). I was always taught to hold in fingers of left hand, but felt it caused the unintended cupping so video helped to correct it. Adapted fairly easy to the neutral grip and striking ball more squarely and consistently now for sure. This along with relaxed arms and loose wrists hinging/ rehinging has me more consistent and longer indeed. Great to see you churning out the tips!

Glad to help. Thanks for picking up the Driver video. I appreciate it. Yeah fingers of the top hand is not good. Covid gave me time to get rolling on the tips. Takes serious work. Plus, I'm finally at the point I am sick of people not improving and understanding it. As I keep posting the snowball will keep rolling down the hill until it can't be stopped. Then we will really shake up the golf world. Be fun to see.
