Remember, there is no running water in the house, and you'd be using an outhouse in the middle of a winter. Pavlo is showing the village during the pleasant time of year. During winter or Rasputitsa season it is not going to seem near as idyllic.

@@FlintIronstag23 I'm sure there's someone in the village selling firewood. My parents went 2 decades with only a woodstove in Montana. They went to a central oil furnace for some time, but now it's all electric with air conditioning (heat exchanger or heat pump I forgot what it's called).

Same thing happens in the USA. My family had a farm. My mother born (1923) in a 1 room cabin. The family added on to the cabin over time. Life was hard back then. The young ones grew up and moved to the city for opportunity, higher education, and work. My grandmother even moved during WWII. She was a welder in the shipyard. She and my step grandfather even moved back to the farm when they retired. The last old ones on the farm passed away not to long ago. The old farmhouse has been empty for sometime now. I remember as a child there was still the outhouse (2 holler) and no indoor plumbing. Memories from a bygone era. People with money now buy these farms as a hobby to escape cities.

I bought a house in a Ukrainian village, but not a remote one. Its on the outskirts of a small city in the west. It was way less expensive than houses I've bought in the US, but still in the $20,000 range and was modernized with new interior. It is in walking distance or better easy biking distance from the market and small shops. Neighbors are warm and kind people, almost the whole village is elderly people with homesteads. I can't wait to see them all again.

I'm happy that I can perhaps fulfill my dream of having my own farm and workshop in a quiet and remote area. I absolutely crave for quiet and peace! I tried in the Netherlands but failed because it's just to expensive and to many rules. I'm 45 year old metalworker and I have a small dissability pension although I'm working right now so not using it. But if I would want to I could live a good life in Ukraine! I am learning the language and can already understand many of the conversations you have about simple things like how is life for the people and what are the things around the house. If and when I will make the jump depends on things in my life, the war doesn't even bother me in that regard - although I hope for it to stop today. Stay strong. Za Nashu ta Vashu Svobodu!

The war has practical implications for your plans though, so you must consider it. There is a high chance this particular area returns to Russia after the war. Unless you obtained Ukrainian citizenship prior to the war ending this would put you in an uncertain situation. Russia requires a visa for most Westerners to even enter. Residency rules are different. You might be better off just buying in Russia to begin with (housing prices in provincial areas are not much different) rather than potentially having to deal with two different regimes. I would strongly advise against a foreigner buying property in Ukraine until the war is over and borders are finalized. Georgia, Bulgaria, and Romania are Black Sea adjacent alternatives but if looking at extreme rural property always take safety and law in to consideration. You must consider not just the safety of the country overall but the specific way law works in rural areas for a Westerner without a native wife. I would not live in remote rural Georgia, for example, without the security a Georgian wife and Georgian family would provide despite the fact Georgia is generally a very safe country and I wouldn't think twice about living in one of the larger cities like Tbilisi, Batumi, or Kutaisi.

In case you haven't noticed, Ukraine is gaining strength by the day and Russian economy is tanking. People overlook the fact that Ukraine was a major arms manufacturer for the Soviet Union, and they still have the industrial base and skill. Also, the future of war is in drone technology, and Ukraine will have over 200 companies building drones by years end. Also, the war is existential for the Ukrainians. It is stated Russian government policy that they will eliminate Ukraine as a state and the Ukrainian people as a whole. They are serious. Much of your advise is good, though, I will grant you that. Myself, cannot see why anyone would want to live in Russia. Have a good day!

@@scottwillie6389 If I understand correctly this is in the Zhytomir oblast, that borders Bellarus, not Russia and that is a very unlikely vector of attack because it's an area of peat and swamps. I would feel perfectly safe in most of the Northwest Ukrainian countryside except for the main city centers. I have been supporting Ukraine morally and financially since the beginning of the war, using Telegram, so I don't feel very safe in Russia to be honest. I speak already some Ukrainian and the culture feels more compatible to me than Bulgaria, Hungary or Georgia. So although those might not be bad options, my gut feeling says either the Baltics or Ukraine.

A house built in the 1970's is not really so old, mine was built in 1910 but had probably been started about 10yrs earlier. I live in Sth. Australia. I think in a village like this with very few amenities then mostly ppl. in the past would've grown the vegetables they needed and tended a few goats or cows for milk, cheese and extra protein, if they had an excess then this could be sold for extra cash, but in this village no-one would've had much cash to spare. I think it is very 'quaint' but compared to modern housing of a low standard, but if a westerner or other person with a bit of savings wanted to move to a more peaceful/idyllic life then he/she would make some modifications for their comfort. If you could attract ppl. like that to your village then the whole village would benefit from the money that this would bring into the community. Also great for a small family wanting to live an 'alternative lifestyle.' For the older ppl. living there I'm surprised that there is no pension for them. 👎🏻 There seems to be a lot of land attached, can you say how big this is? My Qu. IS: is this house in the East or the West of Ukraine? 🤔 Thanks for an interesting video and the 'tour' I hope this video gives some ppl. and idea to move to a more slow-paced lifestyle. Looks just like my grandparents and great grandparents house in Czech 🇨🇿. They left it 1935 ( naztis invading) , of course my babushka refused to leave and refused to believe WW2. They told her "we are going to visit relatives in US" , so she said ok to vaca When they arrived to US , they tricked her and said we are never going back to czechslovkia 🇨🇿. My mom got that house back , sold it for 15k little farm house just like yours . In hindsight I wish I bought it from my mom , but the reasons why they had to leave , just too painful to even look at the house . It's been a 💔 for me to watch this awful war being done to my slav , neighbors the Ukrainian people 😥💔. 💙💛🇺🇸🇨🇿

What a beautiful village it could be if many people with a good pension or income came back and bought and did up all the houses and began some tourist things. She said it's only 35 km from the city. That's not far. A cafe and bakery etc could start again if gone.. The government should give grants to certain villages to encourage new life into them.

The houses may be cheap, but it would take a lot of money to modernize them. Most people are not going to want to live in a house with no running water or a toilet. The cost of installing a pressurized water system and a septic tank would be very expensive in relationship to the cost of buying the property.

Hard to know what she means by 35 km from the city. She might be calling a city something that only a regional town with 10,000 people so it might be hundreds of kilometres from a big city like Kyiv for example. My Dad purchased a house that was four hours drive from where we lived. So it was just a small town itself and the nearest town of any size was about 35 kilometres away and even that was probably only 5,000 people in that town. So it was way off the grid. I went there a few times when I was on travels out in the country. It was good to sleep overnight but if it was off the main highways so still had to drive half an hour off main route to get to it. So probably only went there four or five times a decade, My Dad eventually sold it about a decade or more ago. I remember I did use it one time basically as a place to go off grid for a week to study for upcoming exams when I was a uni student. But when I wanted to go anywhere really had to drive 30 or 40 minutes to a decent size town. It was probably an old house from the 1950s. Still had electricity and water but no internet connection or anything the last time I ever went there. The town itself had a pub and maybe a small shop open for a few hours a day but it mainly retirees that live there or local wheat farmers that stop at the pub at times. I'm sure in the 1930s to 1960s it had more families there but as time moves on so many things change the regional towns seems to slowly die out.

Roads here are fairly decent even off road but I was on a road in Ukraine between Odesa and another regional city about an hour away and remember the roads were not great. I love this house. I could happily live there as it is. It's not a flash house by any means but it sure looks homely, which is exactly what i like to look for most of all in a house anyway. And the color scheme on the house even looks nice too and really suits this house. And the people there seem to be wonderful people. This country area seems perfect to my tastes too. But to be honest, ive been spoiled with climate where i live. And i'm not sure i would be hard enough to handle the cold in wintertime there that the resilient Ukrainian people can handle. I have trouble with blood flow in the cold for some reason. It's truly lovely to see your family together reminiscing of times past and of families loved ones. Love to you all 💕

Keeping a house warm in Ukraine can be expensive or a lot of work, or both. My family was originally from Norway. I wouldn't want to deal with that cold and wind. Such nice people in Ukraine. The wood stove that is tiled into the wall is quite different than what you would see here in north Missouri USA. We have free standing or wood furnace that is connected to forced air ducts. You are in our thoughts. All the best.

Those stoves are called mass stoves. Very efficient. It heats the brick and concrete and radiates heat.

My jaw dropped when I saw how cheap these houses are as compared to in my country. It would be a shame for them to fall into ruin. If you have money and time it's a fun investment to buy one for a vacation home in Europe. For people who grew up in comfort it's like camping in a cabin and you spend a lot of time chopping wood for heat and cooking and it is a quieter time away from the hustle and bustle. Good for the soul.

High speed rail could help to bring these villages back to life. People generally want to live in the country, but also want the high paying jobs cities have to offer. This is the same issue in every country. Also, many villages and cities have been razed to the ground. Once people come back to the country, housing will be a problem. I can see a business opportunity of flipping homes in these villages. The destroyed villages could be rebuilt quickly with prefab homes, which are built with modern materials, energy efficient, and offer the same space as these existing homes in these villages. They are cheaper too.

Best of life: top post, what youtube should be all about. Small town economy situation is similar here in Massachusetts: it is difficult for the villages to avoid becoming a "bedroom community", where all the jobs are a drive 20 - 50 minutes away.
