My papa was the artist who drew this map Calvin Hall. He was also a paratrooper in the 82nd and jumped behind enemy lines on D-day. I wish I could get this from this man or at least talk to him. Pretty awesome to see this!

My girlfriend's grandfather was driving the very first tank to make the beach on D-Day and the man LIVED, how you going to be the 1st tank and not be taken out! It blew my mind when I heard the story. He is still alive at the age of 93

It really made me upset that such an important piece of history was gifted to the seller by his grandpa and he chose to sell it.... just hearing the story made me think that these papers and plans were quite important to his grandpa and he wanted him to keep it to educate others

@@Locutus Yeah, but it actually doesn't belong in a museum. Museums display items. Those battle plans cannot be displayed in any capacity, because they degrade extremely quickly when exposed to light.

He said they belong in a museum, because it would be taken care of so they don't fade. ie They would treat it regularly with a chemical, and in the correct lighting environment.

They wouldn't display the original documents, they'd have to photograph or scan them for reproduction, enlarging them to be viewable. Presidential or University libraries are the best places for these outside of the National Archives or Smithsonian. These pre D-Day plans should go to the Eisenhower Library in Abilene, KS.

Yes, my dad did write his war memoir. A family treasure. He was in the invasion landings of North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, and the initial crossing of the Rhine on the Remagen bridge, and one of the first 4 US Army doctors into the concentration camp at Nordhausen, where he went thru piles of bodies w a stethoscope to find the still living.

My great grandfather stormed the beaches of Normandy and was also a PoW during WWII. He died years ago, but that's just life. Pretty sad, but he left a legacy.

In all fairness rick was right in not buying them, i have pre-battle plans for operation market garden (grandpa was an intel officer in the 101st) and they do NOT last if displayed, thankfully i took them down from my walls just in time.

I was fortunate enough, by the grace of God, to visit Normandy. Normandy is a beautiful historic place where I believe that every Citizen of the United States should visit ( if they have the opportunity of course ). When you go there and see what these young men were able to accomplish with the obstacles they had, you will be amazed and humbled to the core. God bless them and their families for their sacrifices.
