I dont really know anything about old books and I know they are the experts, but it bugs me how they treat some of them. Like, a $100k book just sitting in a shelf between other books and just a lock to protect it. I remember the first time I visited my college's library they told us they had some books that you could only read in a special room with gloves and a mask, and I'm pretty sure none of those books were "one of the few remaining books of the guy who realized how our universe works before telescopes were a thing"

If colleges treat the books as low value, students will treat it that way. An antique collector looking to buy is probably going to be more careful with the books by nature and if something happens to it by accident, the potential buyer can most likely pay that amount. Meanwhile, college students can barely afford tuition let alone thousands for a historical book. No reason to take the risk. Plus, if it makes you feel any better, I think a lot of colleges are only borrowing the books for a period of time and have to be extra careful since they don’t own them :p

Okay, Maybe I'm a bit crazy. But the song in the background at 8:51 sounded really familiar. So I went searching and I think it's pretty extremely similar to a song in Command & Conquer, Red Alert 3's soundtrack. Specifically 'Floating Monstrosity.' The chorus in the background of the C&C song is louder, but it could be because it's really tuned down in this episode. It could be totally unrelated, but it threw me for a loop and I wonder if others noticed. Most people just make memes about the absolute scalping of prices that occur on the show. (Quick Edit) I just timed the ost so that it synced with the episode and it is pretty exact. Especially if you turn up the episode's volume and turn down the ost so that it's about the same.

its called advertising. He doesn't buy and sell these things, he is one of the "guests" on the show that is showing off his collection, getting his face and name out there. Many of the people are hired to do the show, doing educational segments, showing off cool items for entertainment. it's a reality show. He never sold those books to the pawn shop, they just did the episode, he got paid to be on the show, and he took his expensive collectable books back home with him.
