What a great idea for a video! You’re so right that one of the barriers to people trying raw is lack of time and not knowing where to get more variety. You showed it’s possible to feed a balanced diet with just a few ingredients that aren’t hard to source.

I think pork is really underrated. It's one of the most affordable meats out there. And it is at every grocery store basically. and green tripe offers a little bit of fermented veggie which is good.

I love having a ball python who only needs one frozen rat per few weeks to have all his nutritional needs met. I wish there was food like that to give my dog! I need to start the raw diet for him but have several roadblocks including a small freezer/not enough space, among other things. But im starting to incorporate raw meat into his kibble diet as a step forward. I hope I can go 100% raw within a year or so. Love your vids!

I love this video. It shows that Raw feeding does not have to be that difficult or expensive. And you used some ingredients that I consider "super foods, although I realize that that term is used way too much. Pasteurized, eggs, green, tripe, and liver. Also, I think people forget about pork. It is a great protein, and lately it's been a lot more affordable than some others. I've been feeding Raw for 20 years and my emphasis is variety. This recipe is easy to change up and substitute some things, but still get a great variety. Thank you for making this video. I think it is one of the most helpful videos you have made for beginners. And also a great video to remind people to keep it simple. You don't need 20 ingredients in every bowl and you do not need a bunch of supplements.

Thanks for all the info, I watch so many of your videos. I am currently feeding my dog a little bit of kibble and bone broth in the morning, then in the evening, she gets wet food but I also top it with raw foods that is easily accessible to me, such as, chicken liver, beef kidney, chicken wings, turkey necks, chicken feet, whole mackerel, blackberries, strawberries, raw eggs, blue mussels, kefir, prawns, squid rings, salmon oil, dried sprats and bone broth. I don't feed all these toppers at once, but I do top it with 5-6 different stuff listed above? my worry is that I am then unbalancing the meal? or do toppers just add as nutrient boosts?

Finally found someone who's feeling raw to 10+ cats! Hi! I have a bunch of strays (10+ :)) that I feed everyday, raw of course, and I'm trying to find a way to prep that is the most efficient and effective. How do you do it? What are your strategies and tips, if any? I'd LOVE to hear what you have to say about this :)
@aviendhaalthor6928
@aviendhaalthor6928 Ай бұрын
@@RC-vt5bz I use PP plastic containers of 1300ml ( they are bpa free and able to put in the freezer). I bough from amazon a 200l freezer and a industrial grinder that is able to grind chicken bones. My tactic is as follows: Today i go and buy chicken legs and liver (as example). I smash the bones with a mallet and grind them. Next i grind the livers and arrange my containers on the table. Each container feeds 20 cats a meal and i feed them twice a day. I prefer to ration for each meal instaid of per day because each meal is as fresh as posible. I put in each container the proper amount of chicken and liver (as per recipe), stick a lable with C + L (from Chicken and Liver) so i know this is what i put in and store them in the freezer. Next day or whenever i have another 3-4 hours free, i go and buy the kidneys and beef. And again, i grind them, put them in the containers, write on the labe K and B (kidney and beef) and store them again. The containers stay so little time on the table that the meat i have in them doesnt get to deforst at all so all good from that point too. And i do that with all the ingredients. I usualy use : Chicken, beef, beef liver, kidney, spleen; or Chicken, pork, chicken liver, kidney, spleen; and Chicken, beef, porc, beef liver, chicken liver, kidney and spleen. The 3 meats, 2 livers recipe is the most complete in vitamins but since i rotate each recipe per week they balance very well. This type of meal prep is less stressfull because you only have to prep 2 meats, it takes 2-3 hours for 3 weeks of meals and you dont have many left overs since you can buy the exact amount that you need. Also it helps if for some reason you dont find livers that day, its no big deal, you buy kidneys or whatever else its missing in the containers. The meat its only frozen and deforezen once so less chances of the cats rejecting the meal because it smells or tasts funny from being manipulated too many times.

Fantastic! This is great for those who are starting to raw feed your pet. Depending on where you live, main chain groceries rarely you will find organ meats, chicken feet, necks. Your best bet is Latin or Asian grocery stores. I buy the main muscle meats at Costco ground beef, beef, pork, bison. The only item I buy online is green tripe but I order this during fall or winter (here in Phoenix AZ will arrive cooked or spoiled. Temps in summer are usually 115F and higher)

Absolutely helpful videos thank you. I was on the verge of giving up with shop bought prepared raw as my tiny pooch wouldn’t eat it any more only a chicken wing. So she clearly prefers the natural way then raw prepared shop bought. She is only 4.5kg. So I guess it will be a mix of tiny portion sizes. 90g. My question is…do you have any ideas if you go on holiday with your dog? Especially if there are no fridge facilities to keep the food cold and fresh? i.e hotels. I do have a cold box but they are not great in high heat temperatures.

Remember that dogs didn't evolve eating a mixed diet every day. I give my dog a very varied diet, but I don't mix his proteins too much and try to stick to meat from a single species in a single meal. For example if the muscle meat is lamb or mutton, then I'll try and stick with offal from a sheep (liver, heart, kidney). Same with beef and chicken.

I've watched several of your videos and there's some great information. I'd like to start this with my dog, but to be honest, doing this seems to be a bit on the expensive side especially when you start factoring in things like pork loin, pasture raised eggs, etc. What would a meal like you did in this video cost approximately? I'll try to look into pricing more myself, but not having fed my dog this stuff before, I'm not quite sure how much he would need on a daily basis, so it's hard to estimate price.

Though I'm terrible with math I think you have the best videos and I Appreciate the content you put out!! I have a question what do you use as a flea intake preventative do you use one or do you use natural I tried to use natural products but my dog ended up getting fleas and now has a tape worm. He was already on interceptor plus in the summer months which now is summer when it's warm like I use the interceptor plus although it says it gets rid of tapeworm I'm still seeing tapeworm eggs even after defleeing him And my houseMy vet prescribed drontsl plus on top of what he's already on interceptor plus I don't Know how safe that is since they are both claim to get rid of the same things? I don't have a vet that believes in natural or raw feeding ! what do you think?

Your videos are usually great. This one was truly a masterpiece. Most people don't have the time to truly source all the things you usually mention nor funds. This was possibly the most helpful. You should include a super low budget video. Things like off cut pieces of meat etc. We have 2 boerboels. That is way too expensive to feed muscle meats. We feed more muscular organs but are still too scared to go off kibbel completely. Thus far, we've managed green tripe, intestines, hearts, liver, kidneys, chicken stomachs, chicken heads feet and necks. We even get super cheap offcuts from our grocery stire but that is lots of fat and some leftover organs. But muscle meat will break the bank. Any thoughts? Maybe we need to add a multivitamin as well. We can also render some fat for cooking lard or to put in out bokashi bucket for the garden too.

Awh, well thank you so much! I do suggest feeding a bit more muscle meat. The variety of muscular organs you can feed is great! But muscle meat really should be a decent bulk of the diet. And please only feed fat raw! Cooked fat has high chance of causing pancreatitis.

This may sound stupid but I don’t math. Saying 20% this 70% that doesn't tell me anything. I need exact measurements. I have a 40 pound shepherd/ terrier mix that is 11 years old. Has had allergies all her life. About a year ago i started feeding her 6 pounds cooked ground turkey, one pound ground chicken or beef or beef liver, 6 hard boiled eggs, 2 cans sardines, 1 medium can salmon with skin and bones. All meat is cooked then mixed together and divided into 7 days. She's getting about a pound of ground meat a day. At first she did better but then started losing weight to much so i added three fourths of a cup of dry food back to her diet. She doesn't seem to be doing as well as she was in the beginning. How should I change her diet? What could her diet be missing? I no longer think I'm doing it right or the best thing for her. 😪

It’s important to use percentages as every dog’s weight will be different. Weigh your dog. If they weigh say 6kg like our Jack Russells, that’s 6000g. Adult dogs need 2-3% of their body weight. 3% of 6000g is 0.03 x 6000g= 180g. (3%=3 divided by 100= 0.03) 2% = 0.02 x 6000g = 120g per day This will be the total per day. Then for muscle meat: 80% of 180g is 0.8 x 180g = 144g (80%=80 divided by 100 = 0.8) 10% bone: 10%= 0.1 x 180g = 18g 5% liver: 5%= 0.05 x 180g = 9g 5% other secreting organs: 5%= 0.05 x 180g = 9g *** For puppies, you need to feed 8-10% of their weight, so to keep it simple, let’s say 10%. Our puppies are 2kg (2000g), and they need 8-10% so: 10% of 2000g is 200g. This will be the total per day. Then for muscle meat: 80% of 200g is 0.8 x 200g = 160g (80%=80 divided by 100 = 0.8) 10% bone: 10%= 0.1 x 200g = 20g 5% liver: 5%= 0.05 x 200g = 10g 5% other secreting organs: 5%= 0.05 x 200g = 10g I hope that helps!

I think there needs to be more videos like this. The raw feeding community is starting to get insane when it comes to how many ingredients need to be in a bowl. You have shown with one video that it can be done without 15 or 20 ingredients and another five supplements. And although you do provide services, your emphasis is not to make money. Which is a lot more than I can say for many people out there. I don't know how many face group books, etc. I've participated in where the people are basically telling people that they just cannot do a raw diet correctly without buying a recipe or paying for a nutritionist to tell them what to do. It is such a crock of crap.

Hello! I am new to your channel and really enjoying all the information packed videos! Kindly elaborate that if we chose beef instead of pork, since I live in a Muslim country pork is not available, what nutrients would I be missing out on and what can I add to balance out the difference, even if I have to go above 6 ingredients? I would be super grateful for your reply. Thank you! ❤!

Thanks for all the helpful tips! If this meal is balanced why do you recommend not feeding it long term?
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey Жыл бұрын
I don't really suggest feeding any one recipe or commercial food long term. That's just my personal preference! Providing nutrients through different whole foods is what I believe is ideal. Who knows, maybe an ingredient you're feeding isn't as nutritious as we currently think, or maybe a specific meaty bone isn't as high in calcium as we initially thought. Maybe the zinc is too high in that one recipe and it makes it harder for the body to absorb iron and copper (nutrient ratios are also something to keep an eye on, at least over time) I'm not saying you can't, but I will always advocate for rotation! Makes things less stressful I think lol

Absolutely brilliant challenge that you created here. I think this will go a long way to encourage people to take up feeding whole nutritious food instead of commerial pet food. Thank you for all the content you put out. Its been a great help to me, especially when i took the plunge and began to make my own food. I am going to buy your spread sheet at the weekend, its so tedious sourcing the info and doing the maths the way ive been doing it. I REALLY appreciate you selling that vital tool for a reasonable price....its going to be a game changer for me. It makes a nice change to see you too. 🙂

Good video. Thank you for posting. My cats won't eat liver, raw or cooked. It's a battle. When I feed my two cats chicken thigh meat. I use the bones to make broth, which I then add to their meal.

I see you have different amounts of muscular organs in a few of your videos, like for example your spreadsheet says it should be 25%, but in this video it's only 9% and in another i believe it was around 18%... I followed the 25% as a rule of thumb, is this okay? What do you recommend?
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey Жыл бұрын
25% is really just the maximum, it can be lower than that! These percentage guidelines are just there for reference and will often be slightly different depending on what you're feeding

Meat in various vareties and organs has most of the nutrition your pet needs add in some eggs, sardines, and your largely going to be good. I add a bit of mag and salt and on occasion some potasium. Organs like liver is where most carnivores get their minerals and vitamins. I like green tripe on occasion as well to mimic nature.

This was great! What was the name of the pet store you went to? Do they have online shopping? That chart of nutrients you were using…is it online where you can plug in the amount of whatever you’re using and it tells you what you’ve met?

It's Earth Pets, but unfortunately they don't ship :( greentripe.com texastripe.com rawfeedingmiami.com topqualitydogfood.com and mypetcarnivore.com do! The brand I got from my pet store is by K9 Kravings. They have a map where they sell here: www.k-9kraving.com/store-locations/

I really enjoyed this video, it gives me some good ideas, but that seems like an awful lot of food for a Corgie? I've been weighing my GSD's meals since I started last week and her 2.5 - 3 lb meals are about what you showed. Am I missing something?

The meal in this video was for a dog that needs about 1,000 calories! I just made it that way to be more general. My corgi eats about 500-600 calories (~8-10 oz a day)

Now see how few ingrediants can be done for cats! I imagine though that would be much harder given their specific intakes. Just want to say I'm super glad I found your channel. I really want to switch our cats when we're in a better spot financially since most of our sourcing will have to be done online. Currently they're on a mid-grade wet diet with the occasional treat of easy to obtain things from a raw diet, and they LOVE those goodies so I'm hoping they'll switch over without too much fuss.
