I was prescribed Paxlovid two days ago after having Covid for 4 days. For reference, I was vaccinated with Moderna and received a Pfizer booster. Covid knocked me down very quickly and I was becoming extremely ill when I caved and got a prescription. I had a persistent fever over 100, a headache I could not get to go away, and it was becoming difficult for me to just walk around my house or take a shower without running out of breath. I finally called my doctor when I started feeling crackling in my chest and difficulty having conversations for very long. He prescribed me Paxlovid and by my 3rd dose, I was feeling markedly better. Fever dropped away and I was feeling it easier to breathe by the second dose. I just took my 4th dose and can’t believe how much better I feel compared to a couple of days ago. I am still coughing, but the goop in my lungs has decreased significantly and I was hungry for the first time in almost a week. The biggest side effect is the nasty taste in your mouth and it’s pretty brutal. You go from not tasting or smelling anything at all, to having a taste in your mouth like you chewed up the medicine with grapefruit peel in your mouth. It’s disgusting and i can’t wait for it to go away, but in my case it was worth the benefit. The next step for me would have been the hospital for sure and I was able to avoid that. I’ll update my comment if I end up with any Covid resurgence after my 5th day… Hope this helps.

I think the reason why you were put on Paxlovid is because of the crackling in your lungs. I think you could have been well on your way to getting pneumonia. Not all Covid symptoms are this serious. When you are immune compromised or have serious symptoms, this medication makes sense.

I’m 69 YO, healthy, and vaxed and boosted twice. Came down with COVID on Feb 25, 2024 (day 1). Dr prescribed Paxlovid that night. Started feeling noticeably better on day 3 and was asymptomatic on day 5. Finished 5-day Paxlovid course and felt recovered. Finally tested negative on day 10. Last night (day 11) started feeling bad again and tested positive. In bed today (day 12) and quite ill with a low grade fever and horrible head cold symptoms. Clearly this is Paxlovid rebound. Hoping this second round is short lived and I can get back to normal. COVID still sucks!

I caught Covid at least 5 times - most US strains as I take a lot of ibuprofen -was double vacc'd in the early days - Covid nearly killed me almost twice. the LONG covid symptoms have been a challenge - I noticed Paxlovid is heavily marketed on digital rabbit ears TV.

I do get the metallic taste for a few hours after taking the medication. I don’t have any other health issues. Im staying hopeful I won’t rebound but after seeing this video and reading comments, I won’t be surprised if it does happen. Friday night I felt super terrible and had 102 fever. Around 5:00 a.m. I was able to fall asleep pretty well and slept until noon Sat at which time I felt 30% recovered. It was really strange how quickly I began to feel terrible and then how much better I felt when I woke up Saturday afternoon. Now it's late Saturday night and I'm kind of surprised that I don't feel more tired and my headache's not really killing me anymore. I think I'm recovering pretty quickly thanks to the pax. Why should rebound become a criterion for denying Paxlovid when the original study clearly shows a dramatic benefit in lowering hospitalizations and preventing death? Doesn't rebound make sense for this kind of drug, since without the drug any remaining virus will have greater efficacy in replicating? But Paxlovid interfered with the growth cycle long enough to allow the immune system to mount a more effective response. The worst symptoms are therefore avoided.

I can only add my experience taking Paxlovid. I am unvaccinated. I started having severe symptoms i.e; high fever 102.7, sore throat and head congestion for three days. I was prescribed Paxlovid on day 3 and took for the full 5 day course. I started feeling better after taking for only 1.5 days into taking meds but did acquire high blood pressure as one of the side effects as well as an awful taste in my mouth. I am now 1 day after taking full course and feeling good but voice is still really hoarse, I’m assuming from all the coughing. Tested today and negative and feeling good. Will advise if that changes over the next week.

@@iamdjm I can actually testify this antiviral medication 💊 works EXTREMELY WELL on the elderly.... it has saved many grandparents lives..... even the very frail. I know some who are so sick and frail in general that covid-19 would have killed them all and yet the minute they were given this medication immediately reversed the effects of covid, and turned it into a not much more than a cold while their younger counterparts in the same household got extremely sick and bedridden for a week with very high temperatures, and then needed a few weeks to recover fully, and had to go through a lot of unnecessary suffering.... I believe that these antivirals should be made available to everybody who wants them. I can understand that they are complicated to make and very expensive and they are keeping them for the elderly which is wonderful because many elderly have survived as have many sick people with all sorts of comorbidities, but it should be open up for everybody who wants it and production needs to be ramped-up. Covid-19 is not going anywhere and it is going to become seasonal..... yes we need to learn to live with it, but this needs to be one of the ways for those who choose to want to take this medication. Paxlovid works a bit better than Molnupiravir and in my opinion, much safer in its action.....

I rebounded, tested positive (6/13) with symptoms three days after testing negative (6/09) from the Paxlovid. Initial COVID symptoms started on 5/31, started Paxlovid course on 6/01, symptoms stopped by evening of 6/02 and I tested negative on 6/06. Confirmed I was still negative on 6/09 and finished isolation on 6/10. Went to bed feeling terrible on 6/12 and all my symptoms were at full tilt by 6/13. I am vaccinated (Moderna) and DOUBLE boosted. I have sinus pressure, itchy throat, and fatigue (like mono bad).

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Rob. As a side note, was there a reason you isolated so long initially? The official CDC recommendation is 5 days as long as symptoms are resolving and no fever for 24 hours without use of fever reducing medications. By your time table, you probably could have come out of isolation on June 6, especially testing negative. Not criticizing, just wondering why you stayed a few extra days in isolation.

@@curtisanderson9731 I did not test negative until day 19! I tested every few days before that and I was still positive on day 17. Covid spread quickly when it hit our community, almost everyone had the bad body aches and sinus pressure. I took reactin when I described it to my cousin like it was horrible allergies, and it took the pressure off my face thankfully. All in all about 3 bad days and 9 days of symptoms total. No body died, we decided to not vaccinate our child and she (just like statistics indicate) was sick for 1.5 days with much less severity. Now that we have natural antibodies, my question is.. wouldn't we want to have covid around us and into the future to keep our bodies immunity active against the virus? i.e. the more contact you have with the virus the more your body is going to be like, oh yah I know you.

That is incorrect. Rebound is distinctly uncommon in those who did not take Paxlovid, certainly nowhere near the numbers seen in those who take Paxlovid. As Dr. Risinger points out, in many patients, the rebound symptoms are just as bad or worse.
