Documentary is an eye opener. This is not a charity program. Giving them money or food is not obliged for any journalist or documentarist. But showing the true story with good intentions of the documentarist is enough to give them some pride and hope in what they are doing.

I feel like documentaries like these , should never been told from the mouth of the reporters . I can't .. these people should narrate their own stories and struggle and be front and centre.

Lumaki ako sa Payatas. About 100m yung lapit namin dun sa Smoky Mountain. Back in 2000s, sobrang saya kong lumaki sa lugar na yan, never kong naisip na kawawa kami, believe me, kapag lumaki ka sa payatas, you will be sharp, hinding hindi ka maloloko ng tao, kahit anong hirap, wala lang sa'yo, and once you experience a little convenience, you value it, a small amount of money ay pinapahalagahan mo. When I was a kid, never ako naawa sa kalagayan namin. Not until I go to college. College life killed my confidence, I realized how poor we are. Don't just give donations, hindi sila matuto niyan. By the way, I enjoy watching this video.

A very heart wrenching video. I grew up with abundance of food at the table (I am classified as obese but currently working on it). Slept in air-conditioned room almost everyday (we had times we just settle for electric fan due to rising electric bill costs) and studied in a prestigious school up until college (I don't know how my parents paid for it but know we are deep in debt that time). Yes, these issues are very open and rampant in my academic years but after that...I turned a blind eye because I was also dealing problems of my own, not knowing that their problems are like ten or hundred folds of what I am experiencing right now.

There I see the bigger picture of life. that I never seen. There I realize how important education is. Living there is simple and wonderful I must say, cause you dont have to think of what phone you need just to feel belong. If you get me. Exactly! However, most Filipinos don't have a mind of their own. They just follow whatever the church instructs them to do - like puppets. If you can't even feed yourself, why bring a child into this forsaken world?

ii Cherry Bigotry? Obviously, you are referring to yourself, right? Philippines is full of bigots. It doesn't take rocket science to figure out what's wrong with the country. The major cause of poverty in the Philippines is overpopulation compounded by ignorance and massive corruption. Just imagine if the population is 10 million instead of 103 million. Jobs wouldn't be so much of a problem, right? I also noticed that most Filipinos are in complete denial of their situation and have the audacity to blame the government for all of their misfortune. Hungry and no job? Why bring a bunch of children into this world then? The ignorance that the poor Filipino possess astounds me.

Thanks for putting this together, Erwan. I just moved from 25 years living in the excess world of New York City to Jakarta/Bandung in Indonesia, and this documentary is so hard to watch because the issue is so real and often times ignored due to the sheer overwhelming "real-ness" of it all that most of us just feel helpless to feel that we can make a difference. However, my problems ARE NOTHING compared to what these people face everyday. Thank you Erwan -- I am inspired.

im so proud of what you are doing here Erwan! i truly hope with the upcoming administration, they can do something about this. I mean the first and foremost who should be helping these people are the government. They should be able to give them at least sustainable jobs and of course at least a lending hand when it comes to the finance. I mean I'm aware that some countries, they have governments who provide assistance and help, especially to those with disabilities and single parents. They should also give them more access to education, as to some of them suffers from lack of education. I'm praying and hoping that our country will progress more not just in the economic standpoint but also to the people of this country, that they will be given at least what the our government had forgotten to provide.

Just a moment ago I received an advertisement for food panda reminding me how ordering food I love is just a click away. Just a moment ago someone out there may be starving, scavenging for food in the dumpsite and experiencing malnourishment. This is why I believe that wasting food is a sin especially when food is in the comfort of my hands. It's not that when I don't waste, it's gonna help out those families out there, no. I know I can't. But I just believe, eat and order how much you can take. Be grateful for what you have. Have grace.

Thanks for the video.. I’m wondering if anyone has shown them other things to look for over there besides “pagpag”..?? I saw a few recycling items in your video that they could probably get more money at a recycling center -or- rebuild their house from plastic bottles etc since it’s a good source of insulation and use mud to hold them together.. as it dries it, it will be like cement.. Better to have ONE good wall -or- floor than nothing at all.. I also don’t understand, why they are not shown to harvest their own food.. 1-2 seeds does not cost much esp if you go to the market and you see someone throw an apple or other fruits/vegetables in the trash or floor.. IF Everyone in their community join together - They will soon be eating - Education is key.. help those to read and write.. so they can get a decent job at least to feed their families.. Well, more than 100-200 pesos a day - I know it’s hard - but they have the will to survive.. Well, that’s just my opinion and I go by it and I teach my kids that philosophy. I don’t settle for anything less.. I would rather starve. My kids will get fed first when that day ever happens (knock on wood). They come first in my life.. I’m always learning different ways to survive.. I do feel sad for them and pray that they will always have food etc and the govt will step up. They were voted to take care of the people. THAT IS ALL THE PEOPLE - not the ones filling their pockets..!! - IF I ever make up my mind to return to the philippines and stay.. just yall wait.. I’m running for office.. I’m not a butt kisser and I don’t take bribes..!! MERRY CHRISTMAS

Keep doing this Erwan, you will motivate lot of Filipinos to strive hard in their life so that they could give a better place for those people out there who are suffering in that kind of situation. =)) Have a greaaaat day! 😉
