It's actually kinda sad to see a studio climb their way out of a dark pit only to jump in headfirst again, to then manage to climb out again and say; 'Hey wouldn't it be funny if I jump in the pit again?' This is literally Starbreeze with Payday 2's support, Payday 3's launch and now with their AAA(by a barely AA studio) project 'Baxter'. It would be funny if they tried making another VR headset after lmao

Why does adding a new update break things on older heists? Houston Breakout added the oil room and took 2 updates to fix. Fear and Greed broke one of the doors on Diamond District. And now the zipline on Rock the Cradle doesn't work
@zerparadoxx94582 күн бұрын
I feel like they dont fully and properly test out the updates prior to release because they have sooo much to do (add content, fix bugs, continuing the story, etc.) that they don't really got time to fix the bugs. It's like what Almir said something about prioritization which is why he dislikes roadmaps (though i stand to be corrected), which makes me think, does it mean that they dont want to prioritize the bugs first? Edit: Also with Project Baxter taking up a handful of Payday 3's team it's no surprise the state of the game is rn

@@zerparadoxx9458 Bugs can also be divided into different priorities. A bug that corrupts player progression would be rather high on that list (hence why they downed the servers themselves at the launch for some days, even after the servers couldn't handle the launch traffic, making even more people quit), whereas some of the ui elements not working properly do not break the game, so they are lower and get worked on or not if there are no higher priorities. The game, even though is quite buggy, is also rather content slim, so SBZ probably prioritizes pushing out more content higher, than fixing minor issues, to at least keep the remaining fans entertained and hopefully lure in more people down the line. Fixing bugs is crucial, but ask yourself this. Would you stop playing a game completely, because there are several minor annoyances and then come back when they are fixed, but not much new stuff were added or would you consider coming back to a buggy, but content filled game, that got even more content while you were not playing for the last however many months?
@zierham2 күн бұрын
my best guess is that they have prefabs implemented in every map, in this case it'd be doors, so they edit the prefab and every door in every heist is changed. then, when they add a new map and fix/add a functionality for doors to allow them to work on the new map, that "fixed" door now has a bug on an older map it used to work on, and they don't find it in testing because they don't want to go through every single map and test every door to make sure they all work

Starbreeze / Overkill's ability to shoot themselves in the foot at every single opportunity is honestly fascinating. It should be studied in business school for how often they've screwed up and just barely managed to come back only to do it all over again.

I'm concerned that the end of Payday 3 is going to be March 2025 and I believe Starbreeze are at their lowest because of what you mentioned. Their Stock Market value is also very low. One wrong move and watch it collapse like a house of cards. One can only hope that someone obtains the Payday IP and continues it, but I'm not sure if that's possible.

Damn, incredibly informative video. I was vaguely aware of Baxter's impact, but I did not know it was literally half the team from Payday 3, and now the bits of hope I have are starting to fade. At this point it will genuinely be a miracle if Starbreeze can somehow save their best IP. But the current situation is not helping, and I'm starting to wonder if they are aware 3 is screwed and just up and pull the plug in the coming March, or maybe a bit after. It would be an incredibly sad way for such a beloved franchise to go out, but ultimately not surprising. Not to mention, if 3 dies, all their goodwill and potential for earning more will be gone, no one will want nor trust a Starbreeze product ever again.
@skinless333x22 күн бұрын
Well, the thing is I don't trust Starbreeze one bit, too many broken promises in the past and the state they released payday 3 in, just show this half ass attitude. Developing 2 other games while they try to fix payday 3 is not going to work, it could but I doubt they have the capabilities for that. This is already difficult for studios/publishers that produce AAA but I don't see it happening. Imo they should rather try to fix payday 3 and earn back trust that was annihalated. What are they thinking we just keep half assing payday 3 and then release another game? People will call them out on it and show the state of payday 3... There is no hiding and running from it.

PAYDAY 3 is likely just something completely on the side despite it being a "main" game made by Starbreeze in a long while (PAYDAY 2 doesn't count because it was developed by OVERKILL, SBZ just picked up from it's success in 2015 after the former had disbanded and swiftly ran it and themselves into the ground) Too many people think that the original OVERKILL still exists or that OVK and SBZ are two and the same thing instead of acknowledging what happened in 2015, like, the very first thing we've got at the start of 2016 was Goat Simulator DLC. Isn't that enough of a redflag to show what Starbreeze really is? Profiting off of nostalgia factors, someone else's work or relying on memes (fanservice) to fund actual development towards Baxter and outsourcing PAYDAY 3 when it comes to assets. I mean, the VOIP itself is literally just a free asset made by Tencent and is apparently nothing but 4 lines of code as well, makes you wonder how is the company *really* staying afloat at this point, being forced to either stay on open mic yourself in order to hear other players or disable voip in general as there is literally no push-to-talk option.
@RustyChains2 күн бұрын
To clarify this as somebody that was worked with Starbreeze in some capacity since 2016 and known Almir since 2014, I don't know what you're implying happened in 2015 before something disbanded? Overkill and Starbreeze merged in 2012 during the development of Payday 2. At this point Overkill stopped existing as a studio, it was just what the development team was called while SB was the publishing side of the company. Overkill didn't disband in 2015 or 2016. Starbreeze bought the publishing rights for the series back in 2015, which pushed on the Crimenet 2015 fiasco. That said, it was still the same dev team working on Payday 2 from 2013 to 2017. At that point Overkill's The Walking Dead bombed and that's when they retired the Overkill name but there's still a lot of people from PTH or Payday 2 working on Payday 3.

That's a good point but we won't be doing a video on that. Given our close relationship with Starbreeze as a content creator, it would be hypocritical of us to be upset at Starbreeze/Plaion/Whoever for sponsoring creators. The issue is some of those creators did not disclose they were sponsored, but we're small and tiny so the last thing we can survive is getting into drama with larger creators

This type of stuff happens anytime any developer patches a game. It's easier to hate on a game than it is to praise a game for moving in the right direction. It's getting better with each patch and they will continue to fix it. Like people that hate on games to me feels like a bunch of emo kids taking downer pills. I mean yeah its got problems are they gonna fix it? Yeah. I literally watch the twitch streams of Almir talking about it.

Payday 3's issue is that all the devs who are worth something are working on project baxter and as a result there is a small skeleton crew who keeps working on Payday 3. Do not be mistaken. Payday 3 is dead and there is little future for this game if the company itself cares not for it at all. The game could have been a tremendous success if they didnt fumble the launch so bad. First worle bank and Jacket isn't fixing anything. And Mio remains the top dog on Payday 3 despite Almir and Andreas pretending to be in charge. And Mio is in no position to save payday.

@Pappalardium because he was never fired, or really demoted at all. I don't think that Payday 2 was fun on accident, given that PDTH was also very fun. But I agree with that Baxter will most likely be a dumpster fire. Bith because of Overkill's know and loved (sarcasm) practices, but also because of DnD itself becoming so woke. I will most likely still pick PD3 up once they have implemented the offline mode, but I do that with the knowledge that what I see will be what I get.
