My routine goes like this. Close previous months budget (balance all accounts, record all payments. Check wage slip and and deposit match, pay money into bills account. This is a separate account I have with direct debits set up for payments over the month (water, gas, electricity, mobile, TV license etc). Pay money into my emergency fund (I am trying to build up 3 months worth). Pay into sinking fund for vets bills, car things, diy, holidays etc. A very small amount then goes to an actual savings account. Budget what is left for groceries, petrol, pet food, leisure. I have a minimal income but do my best with what I have.

You should probably organize how you pay your expenses around when and how often your pay comes in. Like have a routine that is structured around how your money comes in. You can try saving in Money Market Funds. It takea 2-4 days to access your money after sending a withdrawal request. Also have a budget and only keep the money you are using that month. You can also try to go on a cash only budget where you withdraw the money you need per week and operate on that, all week. Till the next week.
