So smooth landing, I love turboprop aircarft, more pleasure flying than jet engine air craft 💗💗💗

I really had a great time flying in the Catalina. Landing on the water was much softer than I expected!

I had the pleasure of flying aboard the Princess right after she first arrived in Eugene. My father was a Navy Black Cat who spent most of the war over the Pacific, and I've since written two books on the subject. Having a chance to glimpse a small part of his past aboard this majestic aircraft was a dream come true, and something you won't want to miss.

Wow, thank you so much for commenting! It's awesome that your Dad flew Black Cat missions. Even though I am not an expert on Catalina's like you, I also found flying on this aircraft an amazingly moving experience.

My father had malaria and was evacuated from Papua New Guinea in WW2 by a RAAF Catalina. The Catalina landed in Rose Bay, Sydney.

Quinn, you did an amazing job with this video! Your 360 camera was used to especially good advantage here, while airborne.

Thanks! Yes, a closed space environment is ideal for a 360 camera.

I have the movie "Greyhound" on my hard drive and then end with the Catalina coming in an bombing the sub is a highlight of the fantastic screen writing of the movie. The Black Cats in the Pacific would make another great movie. Tom Hanks, where are you.

I'll have to watch that movie. It only came out three years ago; I don't know how I missed it. Thanks for the comments!

What an amazing experience that must have been! You know a plane design is excellent when it's being used 80 plus years later...

See the 1973 movie Steelyard Blues, starring Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland, in which a group of misfits tries to get a PBY flying again.

In 2015 we also had a Catalina in the Netherlands with which sightseeing flights were made and water landings (2x per flight) on the IJsselmeer ... unfortunately due to an emergency landing at Lelystad airport (the residence of the Cat) because the nose wheel did not come down. Due to the damage and repair, the Catalina foundation was forced to sell the Catalina to a foundation in the US...this Cat could take 16 passengers, I am now 73 years old and I am still sad that I can no longer fly with him, Luckily I still have the videos. By the way, I wish you Cat a very long life, keep him (her) in the air!! 👌 My first flight en take off in may 2015 (sound ON to 10😊): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJCmZqKsj9J-nZY 3e flight in 2016 : waterlanding kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4atqYeopLaqbbc

@@quinn1966 Yes, the nose wheel has been completely repaired, but then the foundation found out in 2018 that their finances were in such bad shape that they sold it to an American foundation (Collin in Florida) ... here's a nice demo of ''our'' Cat : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJrJp6Npbal3fdE
