Hey mate, greetings from AU! I have almost the exact same setup at home with the absence of the TV tuner card. Node 304 ITX, Ryzen 7 1700, ASRock AB350 mobo, 240GB M.2 NVMe SSD, 4x3TB HDDs. I run Unraid and use it as a NAS, Plex Server, many Docker containers, CCTV and VMs. So refreshing to see someone coming up with a very similar build. I'm currently looking to add a tuner card to stream TV across the network, rather than antenna cables everywhere. Initially thought about a HDHomeRun, however they seem to be unavailable, but today i've just realised I could install a PCIe Tuner card to fulfil the same purpose! Plus looking to upgrade from ITX....onto that! Great video mate, cheers.

Hi! PCIE tuners card work great, although I have not run one in Plex or with UnRaid, In my case I installed a Hauppage WinTV QuadHD PCIE DVB-T2 card, it is still working fine but I actually think my older TBS 6205 performs slightly better here in the UK, it can handle weaker signals, I have also had the TBS card running under Linux without issue. Good luck! AM

Did you end up adding a pci - sata expansion card later? I can't find an mATX mobo that has more than 4x sata connectors whereas the node 804 supports 8x 3.5" drives...

Thanks for the video, a curiosity, the case fans pull the air out or pull in???? (i'm not a very expert, and I would not have said nonsense). Thank you

From memory, default installed fans 1 pull in from front and 2 blow out the back but you can easily turn them around if you want to change this. AM

I'm about to build a storage Server and looked up Node 804 reviews. Viewing yours i must say i'm relieved that i'm not the only old fart with a head lamp and strong goggles when building a PC :) Oh and i tend to take the same Vitamins as you do.

Can you do this without a fast graphics card, can just the CPU handle all the processing? There’s no such thing as a modern, cheap, relatively fast gfx card in today’s market. I’ve got a spare GTX970 and a load of assorted older cards I could use. None of those spin their fans down though. I don’t like the idea of sticking in a gfx card to make noise and use loads of extra power when it is probably going to be on 24/7 Would an APU be powerful enough to run a TV server like this do you think? NB: I ordered my quad HD card this week and trying to make a list for the rest of the parts atm.

The hardware requirements on the NextPVR website aren't very helpful and say 'a modern video card'. Given how good the latest APU's are (e.g. Ryzen) I would have thought its worth a try, in any case you could add the GFX card later if the system turns out to need it. AM

@@AmoebaMan Thanks. I guess I should have looked there first Pentium 4 or AMD 1.4 GHz CPU. 512MB RAM or greater. A modern video card. Large Hard Drive for recorded shows and other media. need to dig a bit deeper what 'Modern' means I guess :) I read through a few forum posts and the GeForce 210 was mentioned a number of times :P People even mentioned low power 2 core CPUs being able to broadcast 5 streams at once, even an atom was suggested. The need to use a gfx card is mentioned a lot no matter what cpu, but the requirements seem super low unless Im reading it wrong

@@AmoebaMan Hi, just updating that I have finally got to the point that Ive setup TV streaming as described in your videos. Very long story why it took so long, but Hauppage apparently suffering from the chip shortage made it take 9 months for me to get a tuner card. I ended up buying direct from them after a 6month plus wait on a queue with Scan. I then encountered issues with the socket on the card (bad connection). I now (just this morning) have got working TV over my home network running from our oldest PC in the house acting a server - it was a proof of concept up until this point. I now plan to finally buy and build a dedicated sever for this. From recommendations Im considering basing it around a i3 9100 or 10100 as they can apparently cope with multiple streams without needing a dedicated gfx card. Your Node case is still a favourite for the box, but Ive not made the final decision yet. If you were to build your server again today, do you have any recommendations for what you would use? - Thanks again for making these videos, I dont think I would have got this far without them. ❤
