This version is amazing. Nearly arcade perfect port, but with an additional stage not found in any other version. Awesome!

I think the new stage is in Gradius Rebirth but under a new coat of paint.

Yes, some minor changes to the 'platforms' and 'towers' but the same type of level. Addition: I found out that the boneyard level in Gradius Rebirth is a combination of the MSX Gradius level, PC engine level, and a similar themed level in Nemesis for the original Gameboy.

Gradius on PC Engine is perfect port from the arcade but it has included arcade music on Turbografx-16 Mini

It looks like there's a lot of slowdown there in many sections of the game, like at 7:27 for example. Am I just imagining this, or is the game really suffering the level of slowdown I'm seeing here? It basically looks just as bad as Gradius III on SNES in some moments like that, which is surprising. I actually didn't think this would be such an issue on PC Engine, especially with its super fast 7.68 MHz CPU and all. :-o

I have no idea why Gradius and Gradius II weren't ported to Genesis/Mega Drive, the shmup machine. I mean, the first game was ported to nearly any device with a display and CPU, even the 8-bit micros (with varying results), but not Sega's best console that was made for shooters and other fast-paced arcade action? WTF Konami.

But there's a load of slowdown in this game on PC Engine, even with its similarly paced 7.68 MHz cpu, so I wonder if the slowdown would be as bad on Genesis too. It basically looks just as bad as the slowdown in Gradius III on SNES to my eyes, which is surprising given the SNES' CPU is only 3.58 MHz.

Can this game be played on a stock TG-16 or does it require the CD add on / turbo duo?

Yes it plays on the regular PC Engine/TG-16 with no enhancements.

The parallax isn't perfect and the slowdowns are a bit annoying, but otherwise a good port.

Hes got that on trainer. A few times in the later levels the bullets hit the ship and did nothing.

There has never been a Mega Drive version of any Gradius game, ever. Gradius did not hit a Sega system till the Saturn.

12 years later, still the best version of Gradius by far. The SNES version (a minigame inside of Legend of the Mystical Ninja/Ganbare Goemon) would have been incredible, but there's only 1 level. Graphically and musically, it would be a tie in all honesty. I WISH I had a Turbografix-16 growing up, it really gives the SNES a run for its money and absolutely slaughters the NES, and not just in regards to Gradius.
