it's the most nonsensial ending one could take... i mean the whole speech about freedom bla bla with a epic song in the background is all dandy and shit, but the circle of harvest has been going since time immemorial. It would be highly arrogant, and frankly retarded, to even think people before you were dumb enough to not put a fight, and lost, but you(current generation)'ll succed because you're different...

+ijirving I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the whole game. I agree that Mass effect had one of the greatest conclusions to a fictional series. What makes me very depressed is that very few people actually understood the point. I really love how BioWare wrote the story so that you, the player (Shepard is a representation of you) makes the ultimate sacrifice (concluding "the heroes journey") to end the saga. BTW There's a bit of a misunderstanding with the control ending. You don't actually die. Your body does, but you (your spirit) continues to exist. In other words you shed your materialistic self and transcend as you essentially become the Catalyst. Control is considered the "Neutral ending". I just hope that your Shepard isn't a jackass lmao! xD

Here's the thing I don't understand: my Commander Sheppard was the first human spectre. He saved the council and the entire galaxy by stopping Sovereign, then again by stopping Harbinger. He bought about a cure for the genophage. He saved an entire species from extinction. He's personally saved the leaders of each major race from certain death. Ashley Williams went from Gunnery Sergeant to Lieutenant Commander, so why the fuck is Sheppard still a Commander? Fucking Anderson got made an Admiral after the events of ME1. Why the fuck is Sheppard not a Captain by now?

@keenaneriksson6346
@keenaneriksson6346 5 жыл бұрын
Let’s legitimately analyze this: First, Shepard believes the reapers exist but the council doesn’t. After the events of mass effect 1, he went straight into hunting the reapers. If offered promotion by the council, it may have been to a rank that would cut him off from being able to be on the ground. Generals and admirals don’t run around the galaxy as leaders of small spec ops teams. At the time, a promotion might have been an obvious way for the council to hold Shepard back from continuing to pursue the reapers. Then he dies. For two years. On returning, he’s with Cerberus, a shady pro human independent paramilitary. The council is going to be pretty hands off. It’s somewhat surprising they give him back his specter status, but that may be so that they can tell anyone questioning his Cerberus affiliations that he’s on a secret mission. If he were promoted, he’d be given access to information they might want out of the hands of Cerberus. In mass effect 3, well, he starts out on trial for being former Cerberus, who are now clearly criminal. He only gets reinstated as earth falls, and with Anderson as his most direct CO. At this point, commander Shepard is an iconic name too. Promoting him would have no purpose except formality. He already has special, mission related access to resources that are not limited by rank. He also is running a small, elite crew on a mission to build a military against the reapers. A higher rank with responsibilities like organizing battalions doesn’t make sense. Shep needs to focus on diplomatically uniting the races and boots on the ground missions. Furthermore, he’s known as Commander Shepard. His rank within his personal military is pretty-much not important. He’s a legend. Similar to Chief petty officer Spartan 117, whose rank is Master Chief, it’s a title and a legend more than anything else.

Actually the worst ending is the that you be a dick throughout the whole game, meaning, you let people die that youre suppoze to protect, choose cold answers and dont build relationships, and punching. Whatever ending you choose expect synthesis one, youll be forgotten, so there is no scene where liara puts you name on the obelisk
@G00dGame
@G00dGame 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheGentry000 every ending exclude refusal one has this scene. It's because Shepard actually won't be forgotten, because he saved entire Galaxy in every case(exclude refusal, of cause) but in different ways. And Liara doesn't put Shepard's name on memorial wall because she feels that Shepard is alive (Liara has this ability due to her strong mental bond with Shep). P.S: Whole Galaxy will count Shepard(you) as greatest hero ever no matter if he(you) choose Destroy, Control or Synthesis, he(you) deserved it. However, the Synthesis is the best one, not only because BioWare said that by themselves, also because it actually is. Only in this case Reapers defeated forever.

It's the most "realistic" imo. There is nothing inherently superior about humanity. The Protheans were patently better than humans (they could read and absorb your entire knowledge and life experiences just by touching you). Even though Shepard is the avatar of indomitable human will, it's not enough to suspend disbelief and think (as an audience) that this should be enough to defeat a foe of such a magnitude. My headcanon is the refusal ending.

@@toplobster740 I never understood the hate. All endings were good imo. The do nothing ending was a clear punishment of ignorance and likewise wasn’t a great ending but the 3 choices were fantastic
@TotallyRealistic
@TotallyRealistic 2 жыл бұрын
@@jacobwhelan45 Well the hate comes from those three endings being the same cutscene just with different colors before the extended cut came out, but there's some elements of dissatisfaction with certain aspects of ME3 leading up to, and during, the ending. Your choices throughout the games have little impact on the ending of the entire trilogy, as you just get to choose whatever you want at the end. Not the worst thing in the world, but many players found their journeys somewhat invalidated - especially since Shepard dies no matter what (extended cut added the breath scene). The motivation for the reapers, as AI, to wipe out organics before they made AI that would go on to wipe out the organics... so... this advanced AI just does the wiping for them, or something? It's flawed logic, which does make them a little terrifying, but dissatisfaction for this point grew when a writer on ME2 - who was let go sometime before the story we got in ME3 was finalized - said that the reaper's original motive was hinted at in a mission with Tali in ME2, and had to do with the nearing death of the galaxy due to dark energy. Tali detected anomalous readings in a star which were strange and discomforting, and that was the hint. He stated the intention at the time was for the Reapers to harvest life to improve and force evolution within themselves so that they could finally solve the equation - and this was to be the last cycle they needed to prevent the death of the galaxy. The moral dilemma to face at the end of the game is then defeat the reapers to save galactic civilization as you know it, but doom the galaxy, or doom yourselves to save the future of the galaxy. The Synthesis ending is what Saren wanted, but it was evil when he did it - and somehow "good" when you do it? Bit odd. The control ending was literally what the illusive Man was gunning for, yet it's... somehow the Paragon option? First time siding with Cerberus is a paragon option, and it's literally when the organization is an active threat to the survival of the galaxy. Also a bit odd. There is also the nature of the crucible. It's... well, it's kind of a magical macguffin, complete with space magic that somehow allows the destruction of the Mass Relays WITHOUT destroying the system they're in, or for controlling the Reapers - something that's repeatedly stated to be impossible - or for the synthesis ending. It's all... a little sudden. Another point of dissatisfaction was the Star Child, which is bound somewhat to another point - the indoctrination theory. People seem to dislike the star child quite a bit, but I can't remember any specifics - other than those related to the indoctrination theory - so I'll just move on to the last point of contention I can remember currently. Lastly, you have the indoctrination theory, which is... as beautiful as it is stupid and dumb. This fan theory sprouted as a result of some strange inconsistencies with the events following Harbinger wiping out your assault team on the way to the crucible portal on Earth, which posits that the events after Shepard wakes from Harbinger's attack are all part of an internal struggle Shepard is facing against indoctrination. The inconsistencies focused on for this theory are: waking up closer to the beam than when Harbinger blasted you, the number of bodies around the beam that weren't there when Harbinger blasted you (literal PILES of bodies just appear), Anderson's journey to the control room (you take THE ONLY path to the crucible control room, and Anderson describes being in a similar room to yours as you progress, yet you never meet him or see him along the way - he just appears), the control room itself (controls were in the council tower in ME1), the Illusive Man's sudden powers (never displayed to have biotic prowess previously, only during the final confrontation where he possesses some telekinesis iirc and somehow possesses the ability to force you to shoot Anderson - abilities that neither Saren nor any of the collectors or other indoctrinated individuals have ever exhibited), and... well I'm kinda listing off a good chunk of the end game here aren't I? Point is, this theory essentially says the Star Child is lying to you - that Control and Synthesis let the reapers win, and that he only says destroy ending will kill you and ALL synthetics to persuade you to pick another option more favorable to the reapers. Theory falls apart when you start to consider what happens when Shepard wakes up, or if he wakes up, or if he was simply deliriously going through those events or... you get the point. It doesn't quite match up, and is a purely lore-based approach to simple gameplay and aesthetic design choices... however inconsistent to the rest of the series they may be. There are many who still say this is the true ending, which is certainly fine for them, but officially this is denied. I am sorry for the absolute wall of text.
@jacobwhelan45
@jacobwhelan45 2 жыл бұрын
@@TotallyRealistic no it’s ok I appreciate the explanation and feedback to shed some light on many fans thought process behind it. The way I see it, Saren and the Illusive Man we’re doing the respective solutions the wrong way. Shepard did it the right way and was given the ability to choose what the best way to deal with the reapers is. I still also think destroy is the most logical but it is very interesting that the Illusive Man was somewhat correct all along just that his methods were immoral. Before the extended cut, I agree it was a little lame and I do not like that the best ending required multiplayer but between the extended cut and the legendary edition, I believe it is much improved now. I also agree that the star child was a quite a lot to take in for it being the end of the game but I still personally enjoyed it all. I also never had a problem with the crucible plot and I believe it was an ok part of the game, maybe it could’ve been written a bit better but I guess a time crunch will do that. I do however fully agree with Anderson beating Shepard to the crucible and the Normandy safely picking up your squad we’re both pretty silly. I honestly don’t think the indoctrination theory is what they were going for either. Just my opinions though

It was added as part of the Extended Cut, most likely in direct response to fans outright saying they wanted this as a choice. While _in universe_ it's an incredibly dumb decision, I can absolutely understand the sentiment, as somebody who experienced the original versions of these endings prior to the Extended Cut. The Starchild's "Yo, I heard you organics were getting killed by AI, so us AI are gonna kill you organics before that happens" logic was and still is genuinely infuriating. I'm just thankful the Extended Cut gives proper emotional catharsis, so it's not such a kick in the teeth as it was when ME3 first released.

But is it better to destroy the reapers and then let the organics be wiped by synthethics? It isnt. Synthesis is also hard because the organics will not be the same after it. "that was quite disrespectful" "I suggest enrolling yourself in a mental institution?" First off, oh the irony. Second, why is there a question mark at the end? I'd say your comment was more cringe worthy. Anyone who defend shit like this, deserves to be called out. But it goes so much farther when someone says "it's so much more than a video game". Give me a fucking break. This is just a video game, and piece of shit one at that. The story to these game (at least the second two), is so bad that it makes even Gears of War seem like a masterpiece of writing. See this is the kind of shit that destroys the gaming industry. Who cares about having a good plot? Or good storytelling within the plot? Just have a bunch of melodramatic scenes and retards will flock to it.

Makayla Joseph What part of "lowering the standard of the industry" don't you understand? This game is a fucking mess, and an absolute insult to anyone with any knowledge of storytelling. This is the reason people like Stephanie Myers become rich off of writing complete tripe. I mean, why bother with even writing a story anymore ( in a game that's focused on THE STORY) in any game if people will mindlessly flock to it because of the name? And what are you talking about? "don't play games if you're gonna be a fucking baby about it". See this is what I am talking about. That is the lowest of low in terms of arguments. Has it ever occurred to you that I call this game out because I WANT to enjoy games like this more? And most games I DO enjoy. The reason I am calling this piece of shit game out is because this is what will be a detriment to the industry. Aspiring writers out there? Eh, don't worry about it, we have people like Mac Walters. Also there was much more wrong with the game than just the writing. Another thing, I was a huge Mass Effect fan. But it was Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 that completely destroyed any enthusiasm I had for the franchise because Bioware didn't give a shit. And btw you are muted because I can tell you are going to keep this going out of some sense of moral high ground.

Destroy ending: Your primary objective ever since you first learned what the Reaper are and what they do. While it does stop the reapers forever, it comes at the cost of all synthetic life like the geth and EDI. There is also the chance of Shepard surviving, but in my mind it's still highly unlikely. An ok ending depending on how you look at things. (Huh, turns out Bioware confirmed that Shepard does survive in that ending. The more you know...) Control ending: Basically what the IM has been trying to do since the start of ME3. While Shepard (or at least his physical form) is gone forever, he is now in full control of the Reapers and can use them in any way he sees fit. Not a bad ending since synthetic life continues to exist, but moral implications such as playing god by taking over the Reapers (doing exactly what you've been accusing the IM of doing the entire third game) are present. Synthesis ending: Breaking the barriers between organics and synthetic life by basically making them into one. Also not a bad ending since all types of life survives, the galaxy now has the knowledge and support of the Reapers, peace is also most likely guaranteed between organics and synthetics but also between other organic species, with the galaxy now being quite literally united. Moral problems are likely present such as forcing everyone to ,,link up" or creating some kind of hivemind (at least the way I see it), basically taking away the galaxy's diversity by force. Refusal ending: Do I really have to explain that one? All in all, every ending has its pros and cons (expect the refusal one, that one has only cons) and I never really found myself hating the endings we are given. Sure, in all endings but one Shepard does not survive and there's no true happy ending, but even in our world happy endings are very rare and usually very costly, much like the endings here. No matter what we choose, the galaxy loses something anyway.

The thing that bothered me most was that the whole premise of the Reapers was that synthetics wil *always* rebel against their creators, and organics would be exterminated, even though I had just brokered a peace between the geth and quarians, and the geth actually helped us. Heck, the only reason the geth rebelled was because the quarians attacked them first and they acted in self-defense, and when the quarians were no longer a threat, they spared them even though they could have easily killed every last one of them. That whole idea is wrong and it annoys me. You don't even need symbiosis to live peacefully with synthetics, all you have to do is treat them like an equal, like any other race in the galaxy. Not to mention how awesome, friendly and good EDI was all along. It's not that hard.

I think destruction is the best ending. The whole point is to liberate the galaxy from the reapers, which you can only do this way. Choosing control is like trying to tame a shark, someone's gonna end up dead, in this case the whole galaxy. Synthesys results in an unnatural peak of evolution (in my opinion) and also the reapers survive too. Defiance is just giving up, passing the choice to the next cycle, and the reapers also survive. Also I'd like to point out that the reapers are neither good nor evil. They're a means to an end, tools for the AI created by an ancient race (the Leviathans) with one single purpose: the preservation of organic life. The motive behind this was that they assumed, and exprerienced in many cases that "lesser" species build synthetics which then destroyed them. They concluded that machines necessarily will rebel against they creators and ultimately wipe out all organic life. To prevent this they created said Intelligence to find a solution to this, which it did: the Reapers. This AI then used them to create the Citadel and the mass relays to direct the way of evolution in the galaxy, to control it and this way sustain organic life. Doing this by wiping out all organics and synthetics at a certain level of evolution and leaving primitive species alone, this way eventually preventing machines from eliminating all organic life. "The galaxy became an experiment, evolution it's tool." And the solution works! Organic life is "saved" over and over again. BUT, the AI's purpose is built on the false assumption that organics and synthetics will necessarily war with each other, which is just not true. That you can prove by making peace between the geth and quarians. Peace is possible between the two. Yes, with destruction the geth perish, all synthetics just vanish, but they will be created again and now with the knowledge that peace is possible and in a galaxy free of the Reapers and the AI's false "solution".

My first time playing this, I was like most gamers; discounting the story for the one in my head; a lack of concrete evidence, closure, and only having three endings. Replaying this series for a third time has made me realize that the ending truly does not matter to Shepard's story. In his final moments you see flashbacks of his friends, his loved ones, his family... for all Shepard knows, this is cannon. Bioware is a fantastic storytelling company, and while they may have strayed from their roots, they have truely outdone themselves. There are few 'storytellers' like this left, and it is amazing how much you (Shepard) has gained, even above the unbelievable loss. This ending should not be negative; but uncompromisingly positive (most of them at least). Don't scorn the ME series based on loss (ie. lack of endings), but on triumph (the fact that you gained the future you fought for; whatever that may be).

Indeed. The trilogy led to this moment...to choose, which the whole series was based around: choice, and the ability to shape the game based on what the player decides. I’m currently at the final choice, the 3 endings...and even after rewatching them...I can’t choose...they’re all great outcomes in their own right. To BECOME the reapers, to destroy the reapers, or to merge with the reapers to create a hybrid of synthetic and organic beings... Synthesis ending: to me it seems creepy and forced...how many beings would’ve chosen that fate for themselves...to become part cyborg and all beings for all time won’t be anything less... Control: Shepard BECOMES the Reapers; his mind and essence merges to become the mind and soul of the reapers, then helps to rebuild the galaxy, but also is godlike...with the power to decide what civilization lives or dies, acting as a galactic sheriff... Destroy: the end sought after the whole trilogy...the geth, EDI, the Reapers...all destroyed. But the damage repaired and rebuilt by all survivors....but...inevitably, there will be conflict, war, suffering, and synthetics will be rebuilt, and could become a new geth war against organically because they would no longer be true AI (thanks to Legion’s sacrifice)... Each ending can be speculated to eventually lead to the same conclusion again...war, strife...there will always be conflict in life. It the nature of a fallen universe. Yes I’m lookin too deeply into it...but the writers succeeded by invoking deep thoight about the game the consequences of ones actions, and the outcome those actions take in the game at large.

I wish the refusal ending was instead a heroic last stand with Shepard, crewmates, and the remaining forces of the fleet (the species that show up and fight with Shepard will depend on the war assets obtained). Shepard will first give an inspiring speech. Since they all know it's the end of the line, they stand together as comrades-in-arms, and in a blaze of glory, fight to the death with no surrender or fear. They are slaughtered to the last man, going down in an epic fashion. Fade to black. AND THEN, after a pause, show the cutscene of 50,000 years later with the next civilizations defeating the reapers using information from Liara's time capsules. Perfect.

Just finished Legendary Edition. Previously, I played them as the separate titles were released. This time around, I made some savvier choices and made my Shepard as much of a paragon as I could. Including playing nearly every side quest. I felt that Synthesis was the best ending for my character, giving all life a chance and being able to change tack at the drop of a hat. Unlike Saren or the Illusive Man who were inflexible. Synthesis is the only guaranteed long term solution to the problem. Destroy means that synthetic life life will be reinvented and ultimately run its course. And control can’t be guaranteed either. What checks and balances does Shepard have after assuming direct control? Anyway, I’m in my forties now. My wife came in and wondered what was going on, I was helplessly sobbing so loudly 😂 Such a powerful gaming experience. Brilliant story, brilliant characters, great acting… and it demands emotional investment from you. Are there any other games out there which tick all the boxes as Mass Effect does??

The thing about Synthesis... All species developed along line desirable to the Reapers, therefore, every species that was harvested likely made few if any other advances outside that of the Reapers' designs. There is no more likelyhood of advancement than the other endings. The difference between the endings is simply the speed of advancement. Nothing more! Example: The Protheans built their own Mass Relay in isolation on Ilos. That is a reverse engineered Reaper design. The Asari were building their own Mass Relay before stopping for some reason... If the other species still truely existed inside the Reapers then any advances they made are essentially null and void on account of the Reapers having already made these advances before them. Any technology the Reapers have can likely be traced to the Leviathans... impossible to determine for certain... Sovereign said:"You develope along paths we (The Reapers) desire". However the galaxy's organics can surpass them. They refuse to allow us that chance. Synthesis is stagnant, relying on the Reapers for everything. Control is giving one human the power to control an entire galaxy. Destroy resets the clock so everyone has a chance to start from scratch with the knowledge and wisdom to potentially not make the mistakes of their ancestors. Each of these endings do not ensure lasting peace. That is what everyone is arguing about. The morality / ethics behind each ending are vastly flawed. Synthesis defeats the purpose of struggling for the sake of advancement, the purpose of diversity. Destroy is like giving the Geth and Edi a middle finger up the ass just as they were coming to true understanding. Control is giving a single human being the power to dominate everything. Either way you are playing with god's toys... for lack of a better allegory... term ... or something... There is no good or bad ending. Instead of Synthesis I'd prefer Symbiosis. In place of Control I'd prefer a simple agreement to stay the hell away from eachother. The Geth spared the Quarians because of a Math error. The Krogan were not killed off because the galaxy felt that they deserved a second chance after their sacrifices. The Rachni can be killed off with no consequences. The Quarians and Krogan could have been killed off with no penalty to the galaxy at large (if you do not count the Reaper threat). Humanity could have been wiped out but we were not... Thanks to the Reapers contradictive existence, advancement for life is meaningless until they are defeated or destroyed. They manipulate organic life to suit their desires, pushing their erroneous objectives. By contradictive, I mean; they say they are the pinnacle of evolution and existence but if they were they would be truely indestructible. A more technologically primitive fleet was able to overcome Sovereign... Hey ho... Harbinger was humiliated by a group of misfits...

I get that even synthesize ending is not the perfect ending, too much possibilities what could possibly happen when organics and synthetics gain new understanding. With new understanding, there might be a new source of conflict arising. But what if say that does not happen and everyone actually live happily ever after like what was depicted in the game? What is the point of struggling for advancement if the path for advancement is simply there within reach?
@SooperKaleBoo
@SooperKaleBoo 6 жыл бұрын
Synthesis is the one true ending because all other paths lead to the exact same path with no alternative. Both control and destroy change nothing of the vision shared by the reapers. Organics will build synthetics, and synthetics will kill organics. The reapers were created to stop this very issue, even if it meantd harvesting and destroying every species to make them into reapers. With synthesis, there is a chance to break the cycle. Organics and synthetics finally have a chance to live peacefully, and a chance to avoid the requirement of a reaper like solution.
@Animefan1803

Synthesis is technically the best way. As you can see in Edi, free will isn´t gone. Therefore people can adapt progress with the reapers knowledge. Think about it, just because you have a gigantic library full of ideas and concepts doesn´t mean you cannot build and improve things. Also as you can see, "diversity" isn´t gone. As there are still turians, krogans, quarians, geth and all the other races in the universe. They simply evolved to the next step.

@@SooperKaleBoo How does synthesis change the whole "organics will build synthetics, then synthetics will kill organics." thing? Who's to say nobody will build anymore synthetics after this? Like machines are built from metal, rubber, ect. Does the green beam change the entire molecular structure of entire planets to be some organic, metal, rubber mixture..not only that, but will they no longer have a use for new synthetics for manual labor? All of a sudden these organic/machine hybrids will do everything themselves from now on? The ending doesn't solve the problem, all it is is a reverse control ending where everyone controls the reapers, and any synthetics who existed currently are now half organic. The control/destroy endings are so much better, not only because they make more sense, but because we weren't blind sided by them at the very last 10 minutes of the game. It was control or destroy until we mercilessly killed the one person who was trying to save us from ourselves, marauder shields.

If you refuse, every single species dies from the Reapers. The only good that comes from refusing is Liara made sure the next generation would be ready to pick up where you left off. If you destroy them, Shepard will have completed his original mission at the cost of EDI, the Geth, and all synthetic life. So mostly a win win for organics but synthetic lifeforms would return later. If you pick to control the Reapers, all that was Shepard is now a mere replacement of who he was. The new A.I. for all the Geth and Synthetics would be a true guardian. Thus, Shepard will have done what the Illusive Man wanted. Lastly, synthesis would be the only true Paragon ending to achieve. Shepard closed the gap between synthetics and organics forever. In so doing, everyone lives. Ugh, I wish we all could have the true ending: Shepard defeats the Reapers, saves the galaxy, and goes back to his lover to live out the rest of his days with her.

+Naeringsvarde That was why the reapers were created. Organic life ALWAYS sought improvement, [including A.I.] but the improvements had limitations. For synthetic life to fully evolve they had to surpass organic life. And in ME, it always ended in conflict. The solution: destroy the advanced organics and leave younger organic life to develop, thus saving organic life as a whole. BUT by reaching the ultimate stage of life, [Organics seeking perfection, synthetics seeking understanding], joining the two into one gives the organics their perfection and the synthetics understanding. And the whole galaxy of both organic and synthetic life remained at peace for the rest of eternity. Now to move on the next 200 billion galaxies.

I just finished a run through all three games with all dlc, all missions, etc. My Shepard was not renegade, nor paragon. That depended on the situation. Born on earth, succeeded his mission on Torfan. If there was no alternative, he would do whatever it takes to complete the mission. His mission was to defeat the Reapers. He wouldn't chose control, it's just plain wrong. He wouldn't refuse either, as this would contradict his believes (I mean really, going this far, and then being like "meh, I don''t like choosing, and I don't have three sided coin"). Synthesis... It seems like the perfect solution, he'd sacrifice himself so synthetic and organic life would understand eachother, making astonishing advancements in both types of life. But there are problems. First one is the outcome - it alters the nature of organic life. It is essentially the same as killing everybody, making one huge hivemind. It takes away everything we, the organic life, were. It is the true win for the catalyst, and not Shepard. Synthetic life have won. The only upside to that is that Joker and Edi can be together. It is also the ending I've chosen on all of my playthroughs. But now, I'm about to go and change it. To the one and only proper ending. Destroy. During the conversation with the Catalyst, I though that the destroy ending would mean destroying all "electric" devices. Like a huge EMP. All ships, life support functions, every VI interfaces, essentially bringing whole galaxy back into Earth's 1800's mechanical tech. But no. It destroys only synthetic life. There is no danger on anyone on board of ships, no danger to organics relying on health support features. It kills reapers. But it does kill geth and EDI too. With the destruction of geths I could get over with, even though I've gone through a lot to keep both them and their creators. But EDI? That's hard to get over. It's even harder, because it's your decision, not hers. It's not like with Ashley, who agreed to stay with the bomb on Virmire telling me to go and save Kaidan. It's not like Legion, who voluntarily sacrificed himself to other get. It's not like Mordin, who decided to go on his own. It's ot EDI's noble sacrifice, it's me, stabbing her in the back. My Shepard had no trouble with letting hostages die just to chase one batarian terrorist. No trouble with subjecting a woman to a lot of pain just to have it a bit easier to find something. But EDI is a friend. Should I sacrifice one friend to save everybody else from essentially being indoctrinated? Or should I just walk away? No. I will destroy all synthetic life. There's too much at stake. I just hope that she made a lot of backups of her personality, so there is a possibility of bringing her back. It should be possible. I hope.

OK, just for kicks (and because I have nothing better to do at the moment), here's what I personally think each squadmate would have picked if they were in Shepard's position: *Ashley:* _Destroy_ *Kaidan:* _Destroy_ *Liara:* _Control_ *Garrus:* _Destroy_ *Tali:* _Destroy_ *Wrex:* _Destroy_ *Miranda:* _Control_ *Jacob:* _Control_ *Kasumi:* _Destroy_ *Zaeed:* _Destroy_ *Mordin:* _Control_ *Jack:* _Destroy_ *Grunt:* _Destroy_ *Thane:* _Destroy_ *Samara:* _Refuse_ *Morinth:* _Control_ *Legion:* _Synthesis_ *James:* _Destroy_ *Javik:* _Destroy_ *EDI:* _Synthesis_ So overall, based on my very subjective and probably inaccurate assessment of each character, we have _12_ votes for *Destroy,* _5_ votes for *Control,* _2_ votes for *Synthesis,* and only _1_ vote for *Refuse* (RIP Samara). Some of these choices were based on the squadmates' comments on Rewriting or Destroying the Geth Heretics, as the comments they make sometimes match surprisingly well with the final decision. If anyone disagrees or have questions on why I think a character would make a certain choice, feel free to reply and let me know! Also, I'd love to hear someone else's opinions on which squadmates would pick which ending and why! =) EDIT: Changed a few of them after playing the Legendary Edition.

There was no logical way to follow up on the events of ME3 in one game, all of the endings create completely different galaxies in the end. If you picked Destroy: The entire Mass Relay system got destroyed, Shepard died, everyone was essentially stuck in whatever solar system they were in when Shepard activated the Crucible. Geth, EDI, and all synthetic life is destroyed. If you picked Control: Mass Relay system gets rebuilt by the Shepard Reapers, whole Milky Way galaxy now has Reaper police. If you picked Synthesis: Mass Relay system is rebuilt, you now have superbeings that are a bio-synthetic hybrid combo that probably won't even die anymore. If you picked Refusal: All sentient life in the galaxy is destroyed, the cycle continues, Reapers are still the enemy of all sentient life. There was no way to create all 4 galaxy outcomes into one game and still maintain the player's choice in ME3, they'd have to make a whole new game for every outcome. They are VASTLY different. Edit: So in the end, they chose to remove the next story from the Milky Way entirely, which was the right call. I think the writing of Andromeda was executed terribly though.

let me get this straight... you can play through ME 1... stop the reapers from back-dooring us through the citadel, save the council, ect ect... then in ME 2 amass an elite team to go after the collecters... stop them and destroy a human reaper from being created.. then in ME 3 you can cure the genophage, end a century old war between the geth and quarians... build a space station size "weapon" called the crucible and unite an ENTIRE galaxy to fight the reapers.. all just so that in the end you say "fuck it let the reapers win" .. so the reapers systematically cleanse the galaxy of all intelligent life but its ok because you left a message for the next group of people about how you failed even though you did all that and they some how miraculously beat the reapers on their go ahead.... am i taking crazy pills? talk about an ending where NOTHING YOU DO MATTERS..

Thanks for uploading - I came to see what all the fuss is about; I can see now, haha. It's hard to pick an ending I'm truly comfortable with. I thought I'd want to destroy the reapers (just started playing), but after watching what happens, it feels like such a lonely ending compared to the rest. I didn't expect to like the "control" ending as much as I did; basically the Reapers are taken over by Shepard's ideals and morals and becomes a sentient anomaly that essentially re-writes the reapers to his/her ways. It's kind of cool, and I like the fact that he becomes an eternal guardian of the galaxy. I'm wondering if that can go sour after some time though? Or will it preserve Shepard's original morals/thoughts indefinitely? The synthesis ending was kind of odd - it's hard not to get over the idea that it's just assimilated everyone to the same ideals...kind of like the Borg. After watching for a bit I didn't mind it so much - it seems everyone keeps their personality/individualism, but become more knowledgeable/wise based off of all the previous era of cultures and species. As a Sci-Fi ending, I think I actually like that one the best overall. One thing that bothered me a bit was the end where the kid was talking to his grandad about "if that really happened," where just before that EDI was narrating that they all shared knowledge and understanding, and the line between organics and synthetic was removed. That basically indicates that they have an immense organic/synthetic network database of knowledge, so the fact that the old guy telling the stories isn't sure they happened because it was so long ago, isn't at all consistent with the notion of the synthesis.

BlingSco I wonder why the catalyst would give itself up(in case of control) to Shepard without any condition..? and why did it seek out Shepard by itself when he went to the Citadel? Being the Catalyst it had an almost direct control over the fate of the Reapers.. I can't understand how this is so simple, as things turned out?
@BlingSco
@BlingSco 10 жыл бұрын
I think the Catalyst defaulted on it program and gave him the choice so it could fulfill his program with a new solution, because the old solution was invalid, which was to basically make peacefully co-existence between synthetic and organics so it gave him the 3 choices I don't think he cared which one he choose shepherd was just a chance to fulfill his program with a new solution. (Note: it old solution was to wipe out organic before they got advanced enough to make machine that surpassed and rebelled against them).
@niro56
@niro56 10 жыл бұрын
BlingSco Okay, but wait a minute - this Catalyst gives Shepard the freedom to choose.. why didn't IT think of doing 'synthesis' before? why has it massacred organics for lots of cycles before? Also, this brings the obvious question, do Reapers obey it without question? Are the Reapers it's pawns? Is it some kind of God or what???

Here after playing the Legendary Collection(due to a lack of wifi as a kid never had the privilege of owning the dlc), gotta say, playing through all of this again for the past few weeks along with the new context of the dlc. Man, I feel a certain type of way and kudos to the team for this extended cut, perfect? Maybe not but I found myself considerably more satisfied with Shepard's journey coming to an end.

With the extended cut, I always go for the destroy ending. With enough war assets, synthetics will "die," but everything is eventually rebuild (that means EDI and the geth as well, I'd assume) AND Shepard survives the whole ordeal. The control ending is pretty cool, but I'd rather not see Shepard become the new catalyst. I think the Synthesis ending seems way too inauthentic. Nobody's their true selves anymore. They've become some kinda crappy-hybrid life form with super-extensive knowledge... doesn't really lay a good foundation for Andromeda, in my opinion.

I really enjoyed the Mass Effect Trilogy, each game was unique in it's own way and i liked the ending, it went where no other games had gone before. It was very intellectual. I chose the Synthesis ending because it ultimately ends the franchise. I hope a new mass effect trilogy continues however i want it to be completely separate from Shepherds story, essentially another space/action/adventure/role playing/emotional/thought provoking game with similar mechanics, would be awesome.

I just beaten the entire trilogy a couple hours ago. The past two weeks, I had been working my ass on completing the series, and now I finally did it! I like the ending I got, which was Synthesize. I was full paragon, and my Shepard was a very caring type. I think he'd be very proud that he had created what I think is world piece, with the Geth/Quarian war ending, the genophage being cured, and all synthetic life having the chance to live like real beings. It's a perfect ending for my selfless, caring Shepard. Still sad I can't get to see Tali and our new home, though. :'( Also am I one of the few people who actually saved Kaidan instead of Ashley?

CrystalTigerclaw The same thing, finished ME3 this afternoon. I'm so confused, so empty-headed, so proud of Shepard now. I just have no proper words for that. Actually, I saved Ashley, but I think it wouldn't have changed anything except dialouges or the final vids in the endings. It's been so many hours spent on the trilogy and I do not regret the time I've spent on this. This is just amazing, or wonderful, or both. Even Star Wars didn't get me involved into them so much, so interested and excited, enthralled. I like the DLCs also. Citadel most. It was so wonderful and peaceful to have a party with the whole crew, the legendary Normandy team. I will never forget those guys, just never. Am I the only one who has that strange soul-tearing feeling inside? I think I'm starting to cry now. This is my favourite game ever.

@@Vic-14 I see, so you think people only picked the Destroy ending because Shepard lives in it? Sorry to say, but even if Shepard lived in Synthesis or in any other ending, it still would be the worst ending. There are MANY things wrong with Synthesis and Control, but I guess since you just see the word "peace" written all over it, you are automatically drawn to it. As Anderson says, "We destroy them, or they destroy us". I'm not going to argue with some kid who doesn't know what they're talking about. And yes, I know the mass relays would take a long time to rebuild, my mistake. Even still, if people were not able to get where they wanted to go, why do you see the Normandy take off on the garden world if the mass relays are destroyed? It wouldn't make sense for them to do so if they had no way off. It's because they can leave, it would just take longer. BTW, aren't you also a random dude trying so hard to defend an ending?
