I’m stunned about cutting notes out of cases for regrading. I thought they could look up the previous grade by searching the serial number in their own database. And, who knows, maybe they did and STILL bumped up the grade. I would not advise playing the crack out game with paper but I’m happy it worked for you. You are right to be hard on conditions. It’s better to be surprised than disappointed. Congratulations on the gains!

I wonder if PCGS Banknote has the old PCGS Currency database- or if it's even available to look up - you think they would. As for the PMG note - it is in the PMG system: www.pmgnotes.com/certlookup/1994051-010/8/ Maybe because it was crossover and PCGS Banknote didn't know that? On the PCGS Banknote website they state: "We are unable to verify PCGS Currency holders." Trust me. I am not a crack out fan - had to get rid of the PCGS Currency holder because it was really, really beat up. The gamble was on the PMG - I still won't do that again. Ever. Thanks Stu!

Great video on your approach to the grading game on those beautiful US banknotes. I guess the way gets better at gaining knowledge is to educate oneself and practice, practice, and practice. A good treat to receive better grades than expected. Love that group of four gold notes. Man, they look wonderful together. Continue having fun with adding more notes to the collection. Take care.

WoW! you have an awesome collection! I am just starting out collecting. I don't mind lower grades, Any advice as to where to star with notes under $200? Also, Do you see price appreciation over the years?
@PolarCurrency3 күн бұрын
Thank you. The lower grades is where I live! If you haven't already but start at the beginning with the small size 1928 notes - any of them. But I like the $1, $2 & $5 1928 Legal Tenders - the red just pops. Also the 1928 "Alpha" Federal Reserve Notes $1-$100 is a great series but I would suggest getting them all from the same Federal Reserve District. Series 1934 Silver Certificates are great. The Hawaiian and North Africa $1 are great to start. You can also find some large size notes 1923 $1 Silver Certificate is a great start. Best bet get the book Paper Money of the United States (by Friedberg) and scan for prices. Most likely you'll be in the Good 8 to Choice Fine 15 condition for popular notes, large size notes for $200 or less. You can some really nice notes for $200 or less for many, many small size. Hope that helps. Regarding price - yes I have seen an increase, especially in post Covid.
@collectingonthecheap563533 күн бұрын
Nice notes! Feel like you did fairly well with your self grading. It does seem like the current trend with grading companies is to be more lenient with large size notes when it comes to grading. I don't have any graded yet, but watched many people who have done pre and post submission videos.
@PolarCurrency3 күн бұрын
Thanks Timothy. Funny you said that about leniency because I spoke with Andy from Andez Notes and he confirmed yes they are treated differently. Makes it even harder to self-grade!

Hello Dan! My goodness! Your leg injury looked pretty serious. Please take care of yourself & I’m praying for your healing! I still look at & admire all the notes you were kind enough to let me have! I must admit, I had a twinge of jealousy when you held up that bison note! lol. I’ve been wanting one since I first saw one… but I’ll never b able to afford one. My limited social security check leaves a lot to be desired these days. And price increases aren’t helping. I congratulate you on your graded notes!! Blessings always my dear friend! ✝️🙏😊

Thanks Betty - and I'm almost back to normal. The Dr. said it was like recovering from knee surgery only I didn't have knee surgery! It was called Morel-Lavallée lesion. It's a rare, traumatic injury that occurs when the skin and soft tissue separate from the underlying fascia! I fell through a lake dock and the planks tore up my leg! Yeah that 1901 $10 is something special and I got so lucky on the price. I could not afford the note today. Thanks for the blessings and more back to you.

Since you paid $325 for the bison, and you're into for say, $400 after grading; if the book says it's worth $1025+ is that not more like a 150% gain rather than a 69% gain?
