For a computer that wont start, shuts off or freezes during start-up, start your troubleshooting process here! This video tests for the most common reasons why a computer wont start by testing your Battery, Charger/Adapter, and if your laptop has a Static Build-up. If these tests do not identify the issue, then troubleshoot deeper into the computer. Move on to the BIOS Reset as seen here; • How to BIOS Reset / Re... . If that fails to solve the issue, then test your Power Adapter as seen here; • How To Test your Lapto... and then your Power Jack as seen here; • How to Fix Test Power ... . If all those tests do not reveal the issue, then your most likely looking at a Motherboard replacement.

it's amazing how simple some of these common issues are to fix. I had one guy charge me like 45 bucks to switch out a piece for my charger that I had bought. the same issues happened again and I opened my laptop and fixed it myself in less than a minute

when my laptop started behaving strangely, i really thought somehow bios is messed up, i will have to take it to the service center. Dell Latitude e7240, power button light was on the whole time, even pressing power button was not helpful. Watched your video, removed batter and power cord, pressed power button for 1 min and BOOM, it was fixed. Thanks man!

I had been going through an automated repair process after my Dell Inspiron 3000 stopped working. For several days I tried to get it to boot, but it just froze each time while going through the repair process. I found this video and I would have had to open the case to remove the battery, but I didn’t want to do that since it is only 6 months old and still under warranty. I had it unplugged and turned off for several hours, and when I turned it back on it booted right up. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but I believe a static buildup was the problem. I had never heard of that problem before watching your video. Thank you so much.

Thank you for your help! I’m a nurse and mother of 3, with not much computer tech knowledge at all. I have a dell inspiron 3000 series and had the 5 beeps so easily changed the cmos battery with the help of your video. I had trouble after replacing it though- laptop wouldn’t turn on at all. So I went through all your steps and nothing worked, finally found that their were two additional ribbons that came loose, when I opened the computer so I reconnected them and computer is working perfectly. I have a Dell Latitude E6230 laptop and it was flashing orange nonstop when i connected the charger. I took the battery out and pressed the power key for 1 minute, connected it to the charger and booted it up again. The flashing stopped so i think it's fine now. Thank you so much man. This worked on Dell 5410 (Internal battery). The power button would flash for about 1sec but nothing happens after holding for 60 sec. Removed bottom cover, disconnected battery, then held power button down for 60sec. Reconnected battery and viola! Shes back up. Thank you for this

Something important that I just lean from your video and has solved my problem was that: 1) do not leave your computer on the blanket if you are not using. 2) if in case you forgot and it’s turn off and won’t turn on, Just keep pressing on the power button for 1 or more minute. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your tutorial, my Dell Laptop have those symptoms of not not powering up however the power light stays on regardless if it's plugged in or on battery. Yesterday I removed the battery, power button for 1min and it powdered up so I plugged the power cord in and used it. I turned it off woke up this morning went to turn it on but it wouldn't power up, so I went online and found you, I'm sure it's fixable if I follow your tutorials, thank again 😎

Excellent video, thank you - but there's one possibility that's even cheaper and easier to fix. Happily, it's the problem my wife had with her laptop. It had been in use for several hours, and simply overheated. She left it in a cool room for a while, and then it was fine. So maybe try that, even before removing the battery.

Hi, My computer, Dell Vostro 1500, bought in 2008 did not turn on. It was off for a year or so and during this time I also moved although carried it carefully. So it did not turn on, I gave up. And yesterday it suddenly started. Then went off as I closed it without shutting down. I tried again shaking it ( because I noticed the Hard disk light was on for some fractions of a second longer when shaken and tilted towards me. Now, it's on again. And I am trying to first save all data. What could be the problem? Apparently, following your videos looks like RAM ? or something else. And thank you so much. The whole staff is so logically organized and easily explained and you don't make the viewer feel crazy by first half of video giving yourself airs before coming to the point one is searching. Same, had to hold for about 10-15 seconds. Heard the computer fan make a quick hum (maybe computer was turning off), then waited a couple seconds and held the power button until a light on the screen and keyboard appeared.

Hi, had a software issue(win updates not install, that meant "refreshing" win 10, then suddenly would not start though battery showed 100%. I was a bit concerned about taking your advice so I tried contacting Dell etc. I refused to order a new battery so thought heck give it a go. My apologies for not trusting you as it worked a dream. There are a lot of ways a computer can be 'hacked' :) Theres not really one step that can guard against everything. The majority of the 'hacking' that people are hearing about in the news lately are generally started by downloading something you shouldnt have. Be on guard from websites or emails that are not what you think they are. Dont download anything or open an email attachment unless you know what it is. Thats how most of the big 'hacks' are starting these days

First off, nice series, thank you for creating these. My Inspiron 15, when I hit the power, has a white power light that stays on for about 5 seconds, goes out for about 5 seconds, turns white for about 5 seconds, and this repeats. I hear no fan activity or other signs of life other than the blinking power light. This happens on AC/battery, AC with battery out, and battery with AC out. Would the next step be BIOS reset path? I just followed the BIOS reset video and am about 5 minutes into the hour waiting period, but figured I’d ask on the off chance you’re checking comments right now. Also, should I replace the CR2032 battery with a new one?

PC Monkey Took out the battery and put it back in. After I did that, I was getting a series of beeps when trying to turn on the laptop. I’ve had RAM issues with this computer before (one port is bad, I’ve been running on one chip instead of the usual two for a few months, this computer is on its last legs honestly) and after reseating the good RAM chip it powered on! It was interesting, when it powered on the date was showing as 12/31/10012 which I guess must have been a function of resetting the BIOS, but as of right now I’d say it worked. Now to get everything gmailed to myself before the other RAM chip goes bad...

This video was very helpful. My computer was returning on then right off. Good first troubleshoot tutorial fixed the problem (so far) and my laptop turned on and stayed on. I have the Dell Inspiron Mini Laptop. I don't know how you're able to come up with these problems and are able to fix them. Thank you very much for the useful information. Now, if my laptop starts to do what it was formally doing, I must definitely, will be contacting and asking you how to troubleshoot the issue. Lol. Thank you so much

I have owned and operated a computer shop for many years. I also purchase broken computers in bulk to fix and sell to fill in the gaps of when I was slow. So I fix many more computers than the average computer shop. I see a lot and fix a lot :)

Hey PC Money ~ Aren't some of the self-help videos you're referencing in this video for Asus laptops - not Dells? I have a Dell M4700 laptop that has exhibited various strange issues. Sometimes you have to press the power button multiple times to get it to stay on. After that, you have to wait 4 to 5 minutes for the Windows OS to start normally (from an SSD). Right now, if you can get it to stay powered up, you get absolutely no video to work with - no matter how long you wait. So the question is: which video should I start with and does it really matter whether the video has Dell or an Asus in its title? I've both liked and subscribed, so please keep on making the useful videos. 👍

1. In most videos, the brand does not matter as most user computers use BIOS and Windows. And the hardware is all basically the same. ​@@PC_Monkey The signs of life regarding this particular Dell M4700 come mainly in the form of lit indicators. Both power indicators (top and side) and all three speaker indicators light up when the power button is pushed. After the battery has been used, the battery indicator comes on, as well, which indicates that the charging circuit is functioning. The Dell display/screen test [power button + "D" key] also passes and , finally, I hear one of the fans come on every now and again. Although I never hear anything resembling a Win 11 startup, I've connected this machine to a known good HDMI monitor and, once again, have seen zero in the way of a video signal. Whatever happened to this machine - it is NOT a hard failure. Why? Because I got it to post to BIOS a couple of nights ago - right after completing the Dell C-MOS reset procedure - and I ran the diagnostic test in the BIOS menu. Everything, including the extensive RAM tests, passed! Unfortunately, after those tests were completed and I clicked on the EXIT button, I never saw video again. By the way, I've also tried removing the internal system SSD in an effort to get the machine to post to BIOS again, but no luck with that, either. Do you have any thoughts on this strange laptop issue?

WOW! I was about to throw away my Dell Latitude 5414 because I thought the logic board is dead. I watched your video and removed my battery. Then I held the power down for a minute and amazingly, it fixed the problem. Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars

Amazing you saved me from contacting the support, thank you so much It was indeed static build up. for Dell G5 15 5500 you can’t unplug battery easily, just unplug the adapter and wait for the one minute and it will work
