Love the video. Thank you. I have the same tent and the only way to cut down on condensation on the inside is to ensure the low vents are unobstructed, and also leave one or both doors open a bit, and staked out from the tent.

Oh my gosh a traveling PT! How generous and cool is that. I think that's what I would need if I ever did a long thru hike, lol. Sitting here watching your video with a boot on for plantar fasciitis....

Good luck. I'm following hikers ahead of you who had to bypass Mt San Jacinto in the last few days. Hopefully by the time you get there the trail will be passable, though there is another storm coming March 29/30.

Hey Newbie Nikki! Great to see you on here. Hope the three of you are doing well. Looking forward to following your journey. And, maybe even catch you somewhere around Baden-Powell. I plan to hike it in April and likely provide some trail magic at Islip Saddle. Not sure which day yet. Anyway, safe travels to you, Jackie and Helene. :)

I started hiking with ramen, and beef jerky. Just thinking about it gives me the chills. Haha. Ramen is still my main food source while hiking though, but now it's tuna ramen.

Great that it’s been cooler than normal for the desert section of your adventure, but the snow is cut incredibly deep in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Califonia.

Good luck. If you're doing it right, this will be a learning experience if nothing else. I tried putting some jerky in ramen and couldn't stand it because of all the sugar in the store bought jerkies. Fortunately, I've got a local butcher that makes jerky without sugar that works great in ramen, soup, stuffing, etc.

How’s the water in the desert area? How many liters of water did you start with?
@NewbieNikki
@NewbieNikki Жыл бұрын
I started with 2.5 liters but that was way too much. The first 50 miles there is water EVERYWHERE. After a couple of days I realized I only needed about one with me at all times. Once you get close to Julian though you will need to be more aware of your water carries.

By the time you reach Julian or Warner Springs, do a load out and send some things home. Get that pack weight way down By 6 to 8 lbs. 33 is way too heavy. You'll be glad you did after a few hundred more miles.
@NewbieNikki
@NewbieNikki Жыл бұрын
That was 33 with 2.5 liters of water and 4 days of food.
@rainbowhiker
@rainbowhiker Жыл бұрын
@@NewbieNikki I'm not bragging, but, my 40L pack, with 4 days food and 4 liters water weighs 25 lbs. I don't own any ultralight equipment. But you are young and strong, no matter what, so you'll be fine either way. I mention it because over the weeks it slowly wears you down and makes one more susceptible to injury. Hope you post again soon. Have fun.
@Diddley_Squat
@Diddley_Squat Жыл бұрын
33 isn't bad (especially in the cold, and rain). My base is sub 10 lbs, but when I started hiking in 2014 my pack was normally 40 lbs coming out of town. The weight will naturally come down. No need for a shakedown.

Super dangerous to have your foot so close to the cook pot and boiling water... Burns on your feet hurt A LOT, ask me how I know... When my cook pot tipped and I burnt my foot I couldn't put my foot on the ground for about a month, I couldn't wear a shoe or sock for a couple of months... I'm going to wear the scar for life... Take care... ❤
