PCT #66 Hiking’s Easy

Over mountain passes through the Sierras in October is bitter cold at night and wild and warm in the short mountain days. We climb up Muir Pass and I finally come face to face with the stone hut I’ve dreamt about reaching. The mountain heights are tough but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Oh yeah, finally Huck is hitting the big dogs. My holy ground of hiking since the late 1980s. I know every single spot in this video as if it was my back yard. Why hike anywhere else? Muir Pass is where I want my ashes spread. So many nights up there. My kids fell in love with the Sierra Nevada when I took them there at age 9. We had the hut all to ourselves.

Love the views! A great time of year to be hiking through the sierra's, few people on trail, as it was when John Muir walked in those mountain's.

I could feel your excitement on seeing the John Muir hut. Congratulations on achieving that personal goal. I love seeing the change in terrain as you move further south and change elevation. Those socks reminded me of my gym socks in junior high school after not washing them for many weeks. They'd be stiff as a board too. Get after it Huck. Jerry R

Just stunning and so so beautiful. I wouldn’t be hiking, I’d be sat forever just gazing at the views ❤. That’s my fear about doing the PCT, I wouldn’t want to come home. I also still am amazed that these images are capture on a phone 😂😮

Huck, put your shoes under the bottom of your sleeping pad and rest your feet on top of them. They won’t freeze that way. Of course, this doesn’t work if you are only using a 3/4 pad…
