Nice video. The concept that one of the most intense endeavors in the world requires less rather than more is something us viewers can take with us into the business of our lives. Somehow your video style brings the trail home.

I wish you could have hiked WA when the weather was nicer. It is so beautiful in the summer, it makes the ~7+ months of rain tolerable. Looking forward to the vlogs.

Yeah I think WA wet cold is the coldest, I think more than the sierras. The sierras are drier even though there is snow everywhere way thicker than WA at times. I grew up in WA and now live in CA. Any wool, any rain gear that keeps you dry without making you sweat too bad is essential. I look forward to seeing the rest of your pct posts

Another awesome video of "Life With Mari".... you just have an awesome personality.... it makes watching your videos more entertaining than any PCT videos I have watched for the last 3 years.... so good on you Mari!!!! I only hope you plan on doing the CDT or some other trail so we will get to see you for another season!!!!

I love the way you were talking about the day hikers and how good they smell 😂 and then to say, “you’ll see” 😏 all knowingly. Cracked me up.

Nice video. You make some good points that others haven't. I especially like the extra layers. A poncho is a great piece of kit. If you get one with grommets in the corners and some line, it can be used as a tarp over your tent in extremely cold or wet weather. It is also helpful if you have to build a fire in the rain. As an old soldier, I like having an old Army poncho with its liner when in the woods. Good Luck, Rick

We definitely used them for makeshift shelters in the rain! Really nice to have 😊

@@mari.johnson Excellent. If you carry a candle, you can set up a "hot poncho" to warm you up in the cold. Which trail is next? Good Luck, Rick

Thanks Mari Yeah, long sleeve hooded merino wool shirt for a base layer for cold or rain. You are so right, stayed warm even when wet. And you dont stink in it. Hahaha

not having clean underpants bothers me. Like I'm paranoid about getting a UTI or other female issue. I can cope with trail dirt everywhere else, but clean underwear feels so important for female hygiene. Im planning to do the West Highland Way next year and am planning on bringing 6 pairs of sports underwear.

You could always use panty liners instead to carry a few less pairs!

My son lives in Avon Co. An hour from Leadville. He got me a Melly, by coincidence I got the same color as yours. He also got 2 other 2020 PCT'ers and my wife one.

8oz poncho seem pretty reasonable for 25.00. 5oz (maybe a little over 8 oz)? Dyneema poncho is $190.00. Too bad the Frogg Togg is not designed for a backpack

Hi Mari. My GF and I are heading out to hit the PCT in 5 weeks, thanks for the info. I'm really interested in the UV hoodie Nick was wearing in the desert?

Awesome! I’m not sure if it was UV, but it was merino by the brand Mons Royale

KZbin recently suggested your "Packing for Yosemite Camping" (Sept 7, 2016) video. You've learned a lot since so I'd like to suggest you go back to that post and add a comment on what you've learned together with a link to this one.
