So glad this came up in my recommendations! My wife and I are fully locked in to your journey and caught up on your videos. Wanted you to know that your indeed very inspiring to us as we're just local day hikers but my wife desperately wants to do the AT or as much as possible someday. She's 48, age and health issues creep in but seeing you do it makes her realize, it is possible to make a go out of it. I'm 50 and love hiking but can't reasonably attempt any lengthy thru-hike. This got suggested due to us watching another PCT hiker who just started his journey, Outdoor Adventures channel. He's a very experienced hiker and we enjoy seeing what he does but we also love your viewpoint as someone just going for it and learning on the way. Love your honesty and vibrant personality, know that you have folks in Kentucky rooting for you!

Thank you for your kind words! There are many people out here of many ages, fitness and health. There’s also hikers that are doing smaller section hikes, you can go as far (or as short) as you want. Your wife can definitely have a go at the AT!

Nice work! I see you’re enjoying the views, flowers, and how far you’ve gone. It’s fun when you get to that point where to have to look at a map to see how far you’ve gone. Keep it up! Remember on the hard days that good days are still to come. This is your journey and not anyone else’s, so speed isn’t a factor. It’ll come naturally through routine.

I'm hiking the PCT this year too! just popped off mile 178 because I twisted my knee. I'm glad to see fellow slow hikers enjoying the trail. My trail name is Tuga (short for tortuga), because I wear a lot of green and hike slow! I just love taking it in. Might have to start earlier in the day and end later than everyone else in the group. But I wouldn't have it any other way! Enjoy! -Tuga

Thanks Tuga, and nice to meet a fellow trail turtle! I hope your knee heals up soon.

@@hikercattrails thanks! It’s already doing better! I’m gonna jump back on trail in big bear soon. Avoiding the Noro virus is a plus lol. If you’re sporting a jolly gear ultra light shirt, then we’re definitely matching lol! Careful in San Jacinto. Apache peak is where I got hurt. Far out comments make it sound much easier than it actually is, snow or no snow. Hardest stretch of trail yet for sure. There were literally dozens of major blow downs. Getting around several of them was precarious at best. Maybe easy for trail monkeys like some of the speedsters. But for us turtles, it gets interesting, in a type 2 fun kinda way. Just FYI. Happy trails!

Typically order one size larger shoe as your feet will swell. Also consider wide toe box shoes like Altra Lone Peaks
