Hi there! Thanks for that video, it's really helpful! I'd like to add also a hint I found when I was replacing my PCV: it's about this T30 screw which is holding the coolant pipe and located at the backside of the engine (with metal bracket and 2 connectors on them). It could be much more easier to unscrew another 2 T30 screws on a secondary air valve (behind the head) and release a secondary air pipe. Now it's possible to push backwards all the pipes and wires around this screw and use a normal ratchet. =)
@randolphmanalang13773 жыл бұрын
A little tip for that coolant pipe. Once you get that blasted t30 out, just slide or push the pipe towards the driver's side then you can easily pull it out of the thermostat and move it out of the way without disconnecting the whole thing from the back. I changed the PCV, water pump, and thermostat for the 3.0t and it was pretty straight forward. It was that t30 for that coolant pipe that made everything really difficult for me. Also, I used an Allen wrench that fit snuggly for the t30 screw, just enough to loosen it. Then I just used my fingers to unscrew it all the way...dropping my Allen wrench in the abyss in the process :(. I did have to bend the metal part that holds the electrical thingies to the side to make room for my hand to access the t30.
@AudiC7Owners3 жыл бұрын
My little low pro bit driver wrench worked great, but I only used it to loosen it & tighten it. Fingers for everything else. I'll keep this coolant pipe in for a couple years before replacing again.

That little t30 holding the rear of the coolant return pipe was the biggest pain in the ass for the whole job. :) I had to replace that coolant pipe and the connector/heater hose in the back as I had a leak at that union. Did PCV thermo/water pump and front coolant pipe seals and belts while I had the blower out.

Great vid man! Getting ready to do this job and from what I gathered between forums / other vids, I had my concerns that FCP was missing some important info on the more likely scenario where injectors get pulled with that manifold (prob because the car they worked on gets a lotta love from all the DIYs they use it for). Either that or they're some of the luckiest mechanics on YT lol. Just a small correction on the manual coolant bleeding process you mentioned, particularly the order you said. If I recall correctly, I think it was (at operating temp with someone holding revs steady 2000 rpms) 1. Open bleeder screw on the passenger side of the SC first 2. then driver side SC bleeder screw 3. THEN the heater core by firewall last (with heat turned up to "hi" inside the cabin on the lowest fan speed) And of course, if you have an upgraded heat exchanger that'd be first in the process as you already stated but that mod is still on my wishlist. Let's see how the pcv job goes first 😂 I think you prob knew that already and you just misspoke, but just incase it helps anyone else reading the comments as I couldn't agree more with that piece of advice to manually bleed the system. I kept hearing a bubbling noise from around the firewall area every time I hit 2-3000 RPMs accelerating through 1st and 2nd gear and it was annoying as hell. Sounded like my car was cooking pasta or soup under the hood at every intersection lol. Became familiar with the bleed process thinking it had to be the culprit but it only resolved the issue temporarily.

It honestly doesn't matter which one you bleed first between the supercharger & the heater core. They few on completely separate loops and don't transfer air between each other 👍🏻

Literally just did my PCV replacement in my grassy/rocky driveway on my 12' A6/C7 these past 5 days which is my only car, thankfully I was on vacation from work so I had a good amount of time but I have to say, worst placement for this important plastic to be. Personally I never had a check engine light for the PCV, or any codes at all. I did diagnose this essentially by just assuming that the PCV was bad as my car has 150k miles on it and its a common fail in higher milage. I watched HumbleMechanic's DIY video on this and learned so much about doing this job though I never saw this video until after, really wish I had seen it though. I tackled this job with a "willing" friend and went to town on a Wednesday and got the supercharger and passenger intake manifold off and forgot that I needed to order reseals for the injector and the lower manifold gaskets so I had to spend a good chunk of change on the shipping. Didn't want to work in the dark as I don't have a overhang and we resumed on Thursday and got the PCV fully replaced, PCV was for sure the issue as there was coolant inside the valve and we started to put things back together until we got the the point where I couldn't do anything without the new gaskets and reseal for the injector. Friday came and my seals and gaskets came and I myself sealed them, though I did not get any retainers as I didn't know that I was recommended to replace them so I didn't end up replacing those unfortunately, and then I got the manifold and supercharger back on. I could not get the belt back onto the supercharger pulley so I decided to take a break and return sunday with a friend and get it on, then changed my oil. When doing the oil, somehow managed to strip the pan's drail plug. Got a bolt extractor and got it off then got a new bolt. Oil was much better looking than expected, no major sludge or metal in it or the filter either. I did also test drive my car after for about 35 minutes to let the codes cycle and I didn't see any codes come up at all thankfully. Some more recommendations are if you're doing this yourself, be completely prepared with all the things you'll need, if you think you might want to replace something, buy it and have it ready. Do this job somewhere in a shop or somewhere with flat ground so you don't lose things in grass or rocks/gravel. Make sure you have all the tools you need too as that was an issue I ran into a few times where I needed tools for certain bolts that we didn't have in our tool bag so we had to run out to get what we needed. Personally I nearly killed my back from all the leaning over I was doing so I would for sure say take some breaks where needed as I needed many. Hi, I have an issue and I was wondering if you or anyone else have had a similar issue; So when I replaced my chain & tensioner on my 2011 A7 3.0T 5000 kms ago, I also replaced the PCV (with an aftermarket). I had read on some places that you need the "updated" version number for it, but also need "reprogramming" in the ECU? Is that true? Because I replaced it with the updated PCV, but have not had the car reprogrammed... An additional issue that I have (which triggered me to replace the PCV in the first place) is that the engine exhaust steams a bit sometimes, even when the engine is hot. And it occurs intermittent. It does not use oil (much) nor does it use coolant. This steaming issue was there BEFORE the PCV replacement AND still there AFTER... Car is unmodified. Smoke is white, not blue. And also not thick like a blown headgasket. I know what that looks like too unfortunately (different car tho ;) ) Thanks!

Just did my PCV replacement and I found that the pipe moves very easily if you do the right steps. remove the T20 for the Y-pipe and pull out the Y-pipe Slide the red and green connectors out of the way remove the T30 (pain in the a$$ even with a micro ratchet) no need to bend the metal bracket now move the corrugated breather tube that runs right next to the hard plastic coolant line (through the valley of the engine) You can only move the corrugated tube once the Y-Pipe have been removed now you can easily twist clockwise the coolant tube and push it out of the thermostat without removing the clips. you now have plently of room to work. this is much easier and less stress and you don't have to replace the clip or the tube.

I did it exactly that way & mine did not come out easily at all lol

I’m in the middle of this job right now. I’ve been struggling with the coolant pipe. I got the t30 out and the clip in back released. I can move the pipe side to side and back and forth a bit but it won’t let go on either end. I’m stuck at the moment. This is on my s4 with about 90k. I don’t think any of this has ever been apart.

Get a long screwdriver, put it under the coolant pipe, but over the engine block. Use it to apply leverage against the pipe towards the back of the engine bay (trying to push the pipe towards the firewall to pull it out of the Thermostat housing).

So I tried the long screwdriver method and it still wouldn’t let go. So I resorted to shocking it. I used a mallet on the screwdriver and was able to got it out of the thermostat housing. I have a new pipe also. Thank you for responding and the advice.

do I have to contact audi to find out wich revised pcv is right for my 2014 sq5 with my vin? or is there a way to find that out online. thanks for this video among all your other videos helping the 3.0t community. was of great help.
@AudiC7Owners2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Go to fcp euro, put in your car/year, and it will show you which ones are for the older cars. It only affected the 2012 abs earlier models. You can get the newest revision.

I wish I had seen this before as well.. In the process of trying to get to that rear T30 with minimal space to access, I ended up maneuvering the passenger side PCV hose too much and it broke 😭 I just need the right part # for my ‘12 A6 Prestige 3.0t now after seeing this and how to just slide both of them out to change out that damn broken top coolant pipe. Probably need to get a small T30 too like those as well.

I'm also thinking the pcv is issue but I've also seen a few people replace their pcv and turns out it's not the problem in some case's its a solenoid with a breath or part number :06E103207AP what has a piece on it that can also get stuck open from what I've read and cause the exact same symptoms as a bad pcv. So idk if I should just go ahead and change replace the pcv. Or take baby steps by replacing the other part then of that doesn't work then replace the pcv

I didn't replace mine, but I think I'm going to open it back up & replace it bc I'm still getting a pcv fault 😑

@@AudiC7Owners yea at exactly 9:55 the weird cylinder shaped solenoid thing in the upper right hand corner of the video. I've seen a forums and Facebook posts where people said they have replaced all that good stuff but the code ends up coming back a few days or so later. And turns its some kind of solenoid or part number: 06E103207AP I'd have to have to take apart everything to replace it when it's just a small part that didn't take nowhere near as long to replace and a whole lot less I've seen the parts on ebay for new oem between $29-45 and sites like fcp euro or ecs for 100+ also on jhm.com it says in the description of the part '......''Common fix for PCV Valve Malfunction P052E code when a new PCV valve does not fix the issue.'''
Also when I got code P052E00 it came up as static while I see other people it comes up at intermittent so idk if that would change anything or if it'll give a little more info on the problem didn't even know I had the code until I used a friend's obdeleven because it didn't come up as a check engine light

Parts are arriving tomorrow for me to do this and you gave me mini heart attack as I'm watching videos just to make sure I understand everything, before I realize you have a 3.0. I'm sitting here like "no other video told me I have to remove that coolant tube and I will probably need a new one"

I'm putting a list in FPCeuro's video based on my experience. A tip with that FUCKING coolant pipe lol is a have a feel and if it feels brittle well good luck but if its like mine and nice and sturdy feels solid. Take a thin piece of metal about 5 in by 5 (big enough it wont fall in) and twist the pipe until the moulded screw bracket and the metal wiring support bracket have a gap that you can slide said metal shim in between. Then take some pliers or vice grips (no needle nose types) and with a cloth wrapped around the pipe gently squeeze near the front side of the pipe (near the block/gasket end) and take a pry bar, brace against the metal block with the end and use the shaft of the bar against the pliers and gently pop it out - takes 5 minutes to do and made it so much bloody easier than the impossible manual way. (honestly its a good design though because they got rid of an extra clip and even if that t30 comes out some how its still nice and tight in there and wont catastrophically fail) lol maybe your clip is sitting in the audi 3.0 purgatory with my t30 bit XD That flapper body, they do mention but unless youre really paying attention you'll miss it. "make sure you push your flaps down when putting the body on" is all they say, took about 10 minutes to find out the WHY and yeah had to reseat them not a big deal but will throw a code about something being stuck open. Honestly though I've worked on a lot of cars but my audi is my fave things just come off and go on without issue no forcing no wrongly made parts - it just works - complex yes a bit time consuming sure but the job was fun even scraping excess carbon from my intakes and blowing/vaccuming them out. Even realizing my injector gaskets got stuck in the fuel rail and i made a god damned mess when testing for fuel leaks lol (bought the $50 each injector gasket set anyways) and lubing them up to put on its been nice

Only 2 years old? Did you replace with a OEM Audi or aftermarket? Man, that would suck for it to only make it 2 years. Also, you reference FCP Euros video which is pretty good, but is there a reason you removed that coolant pipe as they just pushed to the side? I heard that back screw is very hard to reach and near impossible, which I'm sure is why FCP Euro didn't remove the whole pipe.

Dude, "bend the bracket" and "not replacing the clip" are NOT good tips and/or tricks. I wish you had left that part out. That coolant is gonna leak out the back onto the bell housing. That hard plastic coolant pipe is screwed to the engine (as you showed) and will eventually vibrate enough to leak.
@AudiC7Owners2 жыл бұрын
1) bending the bracket is something almost every or person does to replace the pcv, and has done without issue for the 10+ years this engine has been out. 2) I didn't say it was a tip/trick to leave the clip off. I just brought up that I Couldn't get it back on so people were aware of the difficulty. I've had zero leaks in any case
@Wootstapler2 жыл бұрын
@@AudiC7Owners For shits and gigs I also lost that retaining clip. I was able to somehow get it back on on my S4 but my Q7 shit went bye bye putting it back in. So it's fine to leave it off? The plastic pipe has that keyway that poppped into the rubber heater hose. Also the geniuses at Audi on the older 3.0 design decided that the bracket that holds the red and green connectors, well only the red one should slide out. On the Q7 4L the green connector is essentially a part of that bracket so its even more of a pain to get that T30 out. A micro drive won't fit back there.
@AudiC7Owners2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I have left mine out since this video & haven't had any issues

@@Wootstapler On my B8 S4, I was able to slide the green connector after pulling up hard on the bracket to open the slot a bit.
