Thanks for the video . I have the same exact engine. I have the P305400 code. I was driving Wednesday and at the light the car rattled and engine and ECP light came on . Car lost power and I had to coast to a gas station. The car won’t start . I just hear a click what sounds it could be the starter. Any ideas or suggestions on this P305400 code as I think it’s not allowing my car to start. I also had misfire codes but have had a tune up done today. After that the car started for a few seconds then cut off. I’m at a hole in the road as to what’s going on since the the P305400 Code. Please Please Help! Thanks.

I have had a 2012 Q7 3.0t for 4 years and just this year had to change the brake pads. 172,000 miles. Oil changes every 5,000. And don't run the wrong oil in these, the oil consumption goes way up...lol It was using about a quart of oil between oil changes and progressed to almost 2 quarts between oil changes then I got the high pitch whistle that went away if I removed the oil filler cap. I should've known, but these are new to me. It was the PCV valve. When tearing it down, the black plastic pipe over the passenger side of the Pcv valve end crumbled off during removal. I barely touched the coolant nipple on the front coolant crossover pipe and it snapped off. And while the supercharger was off I found the source of my small oil leak that I had thought was the rear main seal. It was the oil filter housing instead and it leaks right between the engine & trans. The gasket was flat. I'm a 20+ year ASE tech so it's not difficult but this is what I found. About $225 parts online. Someone had already done intake gaskets & valve cover gaskets so lucked out there. I have the 290hp version but looking at a tune soon +80hp

Go with an 8.5 if you want an S-tronic. The b8 gen has known issues with the DL501 transmission that can become costly if not sorted, especially if you are from NA. In Europe they are cheaper to fix. On the 8.5 facelift all the issues with it were fixed tough so worth the extra money over the 8.

Great video sirs...very informative! I just traded my A6 3.0T for a low-miles (29K) A8 3.0T a few months ago. I'd initially sought an A8 4.0T, or S8, but those cars were $15-40K more, just to get the larger engine. After owning the A6 for a while, I loved its 3.0T engine, and found it sufficiently strong in the A8, which is only 300 lbs heavier than the A6. Plus, my A8 gets 30mpg on the freeway! I plan on keeping this A8 forever, so I'm glad to read comments here that the engine is reliable long-term. So happy with Audi engineering! Subscribed!!

I have a B8 S4 and can attest to the robustness of the 3.0T. I think Audi knocked it out of the park with this engine. These make enough power to run 12.9's with the right tires and launch all day long. Put a Stage 1 tune, intake system, and S/C pulley and be deep into the 12's and not worry too much about breaking the engine. The transmissions are another story though. It's hit or miss with those. If you have an early DSG, you might want to keep a spare on hand to change out preferably from a later model. Just putting this out there for those who don't know, a new one is 14K from Audi. Yes, that is fourteen thousand dollars.

Hot tip if you have that rattle after cold start as the car remains at 1200 rpm check the flex pipes. Early models of the cars with this motor seem to have this recurring problem. The rattle is very similar but obviously comes from the bottom of the car. Mechanics will try to get you to change the cats. Its probably not those....check the flex pipes first
@MikeClear21 Жыл бұрын
I have the entire exhaust system changed for FOX system with all the cats and stuff and when I cold start i hear loud rattle for the entire time of the engine beign in higher rpm, when it goes down the rattle dissappears. Timing chain was changed in 160K km and now it has 178K km. Do you have anny idea what could it be? It sounds like its comming from the front of the engine not back so it may be supercharger tensioners but it feels pretty tight. ( 2010 A7)

I own a 2015 S4 and at 55k, I started to get the dreaded tensioner rattle. I replaced them in the winter months with the upgraded unit. These would be easy to replace if you owned the 3.2 v6 but since the 3.0T has the secondary valves on the back off the heads and the catalysts are right next to them, you’ll have to drop the engine down enough to be able to remove the cats so you can remove the bolts from the valves so you can finish removing the back cover to the tensioners. Yes! You will need special tools like the piston stop and a few hand tools to remove and tighten the bolts of the cam gears. A big help was removing the false fire wall which opened up the whole rear of the engine. Good luck if you’re attempting this job but you can do it if you take your time and check your work.

What is the consecuence if we ingore the secondary airpump foult code ? What problems it brings , on a 3.2l engine Q5 2009?😊
@fcpeuro Жыл бұрын
The secondary air injection pump or SAI pump reduces the carbon emissions from a vehicle’s exhaust. The car's air injection pump also helps increase the catalytic converter's efficiency. Suppose your vehicle has a bad secondary air pump. In that case, hydrocarbon fumes will come out in an excessive amount from the exhaust., not to mention the pollution added to the environment.

I appreciated the review of the 3.0t. I bought a 2014 A8 (two years ago) and it has performed well. You very accurately explained the initial "rattle" that I hear upon start up and while it goes away in the prescribed time., I may get this looked at just to be on the safe side. Water pump and thermostat will also be serviced as well. With the supercharger off, I may have that serviced along with the PCV replacement since the labor will already have those components off the engine. My cousin recently pyrchased a 2012 3.0T in an S5 cabriolet. (Midlife crisis mobile) Had it a few months but had only driven it on nice weekend afternoons. Stated that it had started to indicate low coolant. Unsure how hot it had run. He had added coolant 'a few times'. Had coolant pooling all over beneath supercharger. Front of engine had obviously had coolant leaking down it for a while. Water pump spun exceptionally freely, had issue with coolant pipe at thermostat housing, and passenger side 'window' of pcv valve/ oil separator was discolored. Just had a couple of pulleys, tensioner, belts, water pump, thermostat, pcv valve/ oil separator, several all hoses, the front coolant crossover pipe, the coolant pipe from the rear of the thermostat to the rear of the engine, and the pcv lines from the valve to the valve covers changed. Engine surged between 800 and 1200 rpm at idle. He states that it runs great under load. Has a P0068 and also a MAF/MAP code. Has a sound like a vacuum leak at rear of head on passenger side of engine. Throttle body and plate, as well as manifold cleaned as far as could be reached. 5 vacuum branch lines checked and are all intact to respective devices. Shop owner is stumped. Cousin and I have found several articles/ threads with this problem not being identified after substantial repairs made. ** Pcv valve was O6E black, and was replaced with O6E. Have heard of issues with alternate pcv valve, cracked intake, and a possible egr valve issue. Starts right up and runs smooth for 10 or 15 seconds, then starts surging. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

You Should have mentioned the silicone gasket on the timing chain cover in the back of the engine. Very prone to leak since it is a silicone gasket right above the hot exhaust manifold. It’s an even more fun job if you strip the small torx screws, speaking from experience they stripped with barely any pressure by hand.

If your vehicle is overheating, then either your thermostat or water pump is starting to fail. You will have to do further diag to determine if it is a stuck thermostat, or a pump that is on its way out. Both of those can fail without there being any leaks! We would suggest scanning the car with VCDS to see what it actually needs to better diagnose.

Id like to add to the PCV valve section, that it can cause some massive coolant leaks that you have no visible indications of besides coolant and oil mixture. The gaskets actually failed on my as well and was spewing some coolant into the open bay area around the PCV. So for anyone watching, it took me a bit to find this on some forums but there is information out there on it.

I have an early model 2012 A7 with this engine and I am getting a short rattle on cold starts. Car has barely 70,000 miles and the shop where I take it recommended replacing both of the tensioners. Not cheap at around $1600 parts and labor. I am the third owner and the car was Cpo the second time around. Any detailed videos on how to do it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Federico Pivetta, sorry to hear about your chain tensioner rattle. Audi recommends if the chain tensioner rattle lasts longer than 1 second to replace both the bank 1 and bank 2 upper chain tensioners. We will add this to our internal list of DIY topics and you may see it covered in a future video!

The timing chain tensioner TSB should apply to all 3.0T cars... My '15 S4 rattles for about half a second on startup but has become more consistent on cold startups over time. I try to ignore it but it just sounds so bad haha. Still love the car though!

If you turn up your music loud enough there is simply no problem. But we do agree the TSB should carryover to all 3.0T Cars

Thank you very much for your video, I am getting random cylinder misfire for 4,5,6 at cold start, basically one side of the engine. What can be the cause? I have walnut blasted the valves and I am still getting misfires on 4,5 when engine is cold only. Can it be faulty fuel pressure regulator on that bank ? Or faulty injectors? Only it occurs with cold start.
@fcpeuro4 жыл бұрын
Hi Munkhjargal Enkhbaatar - while it's hard to diagnose problems via the internet, I'd suggest moving ignition packs from the 456 cylinders to the 123 cylinders and vice versa to see if the misfire follows on those cylinders, and doing the same for spark plugs to confirm it's not an easy fix like needing new coils or spark plugs!

Most of it is the same. Sparks and coils are also the same as in this vid

Great video and very informative. I've a 2014 ( UK ) S4 and have changed the oil and oil filter, spark plugs, ignition coils, air intake, cabin air filter and just changed the centre brake light. How do you remove the supercharger to inspect it's state? You done a video on this? And what is the air intake model ( looks like an IE/ K&N mode ) or is a combo of aftermarket products? Again, great heads up on what to expect. They go like the wind, if serviced properly. In manual and sport mode, they really go for it without any lag; in drive, they're not great, but I guess a remap will change that. Noticed my MPG increase when the spark plugs and ignition coils were changed. Great news.
