I like the tree mount, seems better than the strap
@JamesTheForester4 ай бұрын
Yes. Definitely more stable and much safer. Easier to keep the rope aligned.

@@JamesTheForester I am interested in purchasing this to make a pile driver. Does this only pull in rope that’s horizontal to the winch or can it also manage a vertical rope? I will only be pulling up a 350 lb steel bar and then dropping it on the post at free fall speed. I initially build this mechanism using hydraulics but I am having trouble dropping the weight really fast and my research indicates that this might be the answer to my free fall problem. Can you please share your thoughts? Thanks!!!
@JamesTheForester2 жыл бұрын
@@Failedmusician the rope always needs to come out more or less horizontally but you could rig up some 90 degree redirect pulleys to direct it where you need it. I suppose the issue would be rigging up a rope progress capture system which could take over holding the load strain from the winch and also quick release.
@Failedmusician2 жыл бұрын
@@JamesTheForester say more about the rope progress system because if having the ability to lift and hold would be great.

When tying on to the drag, the strop should be as close to the butt as possible, to save digging-in or snagging, as happened almost immediately.

@JamesTheForester Жыл бұрын
I would imagine 2nd hand will have been worked hard. They rev very high to generate the torque so even though this particular model has a Honda engine which is very reliable and long lasting I would still buy brand new.

Actually I got a question I have some 80 ft locust trees that are roughly 18 to 22 in across at the good size of it What size portable gas winch should I use what size
@JamesTheForester Жыл бұрын
The small one you see in the video should do it. All you need to do is just keep adding pulleys to double up the Pull strength while you half the pull speed. You'd be surprised at some of the monster trees we have pulled with that winch. many thanks for the comment. Good luck!

Any help. My lines is snagging on the drum
@JamesTheForester Жыл бұрын
Do you mean coiling over on itself? Make sure the drum is angled slightly away from the working end of the line. Use a redirect if you need to make sure the angle is exactly right even on a straight ahead pull. Good luck.

Smart winch indeed! Have you had any issues with the winch/motor at all?
@JamesTheForester2 жыл бұрын
No. None at all. It is a Honda motor so ultra-reliable. It is a 4-stroke as well so you don't need to worry about mixing up 2-stroke fuel. Just use good quality engine oil and change it regularly.

@@JamesTheForester thanks for your honest opinion and very speedy reply! I literally Just bit the bullet and ordered one from the US, considerably cheaper than buying it within the uk! Should make things a lot easier for us with smaller tree jobs, thanks!!

There is a difference between work and KZbin video making. We work slowly for the video so people can see what we are doing. This is an instructional video not a video of how fast we work.
