@@shmok3y bullshit. Both mgs: gz and TPP were exactly what Metal gear always was about. Solid Snake's catchphrase is literally "I'm not a hero" and he means it. MGS2 is about is about a man who becomes "just like Snake", but has nothing of his own (and MGR is about exactly learning to become himself, not someone or something else) and the triteness of it all. MGS3 is about how soldiers are used like tissues - used, dirtied and thrown away. MGS4 is about how the monstrosity that is Patriots was born from a thing as mundane and stupid as an interpretation of a will of a woman long gone. Peace Walker is about naiveté of the nuclear deterrence as a concept and prisoner's dilemma of sorts being the nature of war in any of its forms. Yes, including Paz's infiltration. Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain only continues the anti-militaristic message that is the core of the series from at least Shadow Moses.

​​@@maxentirunosrue. Though we have to blame Konami for that. The Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain are shaped by Kojima seeing his life crumble right before his eyes. He worked there most of his life and didn't even know what to do after getting fired. His accidental discovery he had connections at Sony (he didn't actually plan for that), the new studio and development of Death Stranding all came later. And such treatment for the guy who literally invented games with an actual plot! Metal Gear on MSX2 was the very first game with a movie-like scenario and having such a scenario was the whole idea the development started from. Kojima, just like Venom, had nothing left. Just like Paz, his child was nothing but a phantom, his life's work belongs to the company that took it away from him and turned it into pachinko machines. Not exactly much space for bright things there, though there are still wandering soldiers, Kazuhira's burgers, D-Dog, Quiet and cardboard boxes.

I love how these cassete tapes give so much insight about Paz on the game, but not how they are implemented when compared to her attitude on the Zeke's boss fight. She being conflicted and nostalgic about betraying everyone is so heartbreaking, but then, once entering Zeke, she becomes a psycho who gives Big Boss shit for practically no reason (seen how she has grow to love him) and then tries to kill him screaming things like "You'll witness true hell". They could at least gave her a sad tone in her voice, hinting something was going wrong with her.

When she cried near the ending, that was sad. She was conflicted. Loyalty to Cipher, or embracing the peace she found. Even trying to find a work-around to have both by sabotaging ZEKE. Paz felt like a real human being struggling from inner conflict. That's why she's one of my favorite MGS characters, other than Big Boss and the Colonel

Paz is the reason why I love MGS Peace Walker. It was one of the reason why I love listening to cassette tapes lore which is really good during that time. I was so mad of Kojima when I played Ground Zeroes. Devastated when I listened to the Rape Tapes and was really sad. Then Kojima give us hope on the Phantom Pain showing that she is alive. And Kojima took this happiness again by making it just an Illusion 😭 Paz will always be my symbol of Peace ✌️

Oh my God, this is so painful to listen to, I suspect Kojima really wanted to make us feel what Big Boss did listening to Eva's tape in the end, especially after he himself couldn't resist giving her ultimate redemption in MGS4.

How exactly did MGS4 redeem EVA again? She was already dead by the time she had contact with Solid because of FOXDIE and she knew it. She didn't sacrifice herself, nor did she regret anything that she did in MGS3, there was no redemption at all. Let's keep in mind thay EVA, even after everything that Big Boss did for her in 3, even after he saved her from dying impaled on that tree, treated her wounds and fed her while going through that jungle filled to the brim with enemy soldiers, even after all that, she was still fully willing to put a bullet in his head to complete her mission. The only reason she didn't was because she felt bad for the Boss after talking to her for a few minutes and was guilt tripped into keeping BB alive to tell him the truth about the Boss. If not for this she would've just murdered Snake, no fucks given. Paz genuinely loved BB and MSF as family and was extremely conflicted about betraying them (Something that EVA was not when she betrayed BB). Paz even ratted out on Zero to Skull Face at GZ naively hoping that it would save MSF and even tried to warn Snake about the bombs. Now that's an actual redemption of a well written character. EVA sucks.

EVA and BB only knew each other for like a week and under the threat of nuclear war breaking out and her having to play triple agent for the US, Soviets and Chinese. EVA (not even her real name) would have also went through more extensive brainwashing through the Philospher's Charm schools compared to what Zero did on Paz - don't forget The Boss took part in mentoring in those charm schools and her charisma was unmatched. By the time of MGS3 EVA would have done plenty spy work, especially 'falling in love' for ulterior motives (a tactic the Soviets did IRL with their female spies on the US). And for the first time, her 'falling in love' with BB were genuine feelings, so it's not like she knew what to really do. EVA may not be full redeemed but to be fair, the circumstances at the time didn't give her any real opportunities to do so. Even Paz betrayed BB and MSF the first time and the second and third chance to redeem herself - from interrogation to jumping out the chopper with the bomb.

It was interesting to have both PW and TPP replace traditional and missable Codec calls with these tapes, and thinking back, they both had sets of really memorable off-camera discussions; PW had these tapes, the backstory of The Boss (even if it demistifies her a little too much), Snake believing in Santa, and a healthy smattering of pretty lighthearted banter; TPP gave us a second set of Paz tapes (debatably sadder, given how it pertains to Venom's story), the Burger Saga, and all the epilogue tapes that answer a couple weird questions 4 opened up. Both games, I'd take time to just sit down and listen through all this stuff, and it was really captivating at points.

I can't stand Tara Strong as Paz. She keeps slipping in and out of the accent. When I think of Paz's 'true' voice, I think of Alice Braga. If they could've gotten her, I think Paz would've had a much more dominating effect.
