Patrick, Thank you for sharing this with us! It is the culmination of what so many of us were thinking as we have followed the builds on the cabin and the kitchen. And a special shoutout to Karen for her contributions to the project. It looks warm and cozy, and comfortable. By the way, I love my coffee strong, and plentiful, but feel that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you worried me for a few moments on your morning hike, before the big redeem arrived. As much as I love the hands on building, I might rate this as your best video of them all.

When I was much younger and knew it all..I went camping in the Rocky's at the end of October. We camped just below treeline and had an excellent evening. A Hugh fire..like yours..was built. After a day of uphill climbing and twists turns and leaps over streams..I was tired..in a good way..wet in a chilling way..and the fire lulled me to sleep. If I hadn't propped my feet up to dry my boots, I might have slept thru the nite by the fire. But the soles got warm and soon we all had the smell of burning rubber... thank God I brought an extra pair of boots. I kept them to remind me of good times, great friends and warm fires..in the place I miss more than I care to think..Colorado

I was in similar terrain last month in Wyoming and walked up on mountain lion at 30’. “At least I think I walked up on her” I estimated 85 lbs but she was showing ribs. Hi, Patrick. It was very interesting to watch this vídeo and imagine how could be a weekend there. Probably I would be worried about the wild life around the cabin. And one of the reasons is because we aren't used to have the kind of protection needed there (I don't know if I can use these words in KZbin). I would need to learn how to use them indeed. But certainly it would be a good time a weekend there. Hugs!

Great video. You and Karen both did a great job on all of it. I noticed a camera when you opened the gate. Is it solar by chance? We are wanting to put a cellular camera on our property to catch wildlife roaming the grounds when we aren't there. But worry there may not be enough solar in the winter to keep a camera charged during the colder months up that way. We don't have power on our property yet. Something we plan to do when the budget allows. Permanent residents next door to us have power coming into them on the road 100ft from our driveway.

3:08 I find it amazing people use fire based heating indoors and not think about any vents of ducting leading up to or even into the heat source as it is crazy easy to do, even on an existing structure like this beautiful cabin. Simply pick a spot where the heat source works best, make an opening in the wall or floor at that location, run a metal duct and a couple of vent covers with the interior one equipped with a levered valve to be able to close it off in case the vent is not in use (and to keep critters out). A chimney would complement a setup like that. Surely a chimney is allowed since there is no permanent heat source present...

I have a quick question if you don't mind. What’s the maximum height of the cabin? It looks like it might be over 12 feet. I really love the design, especially the 45-degree roof, and I'm considering building one in my backyard. I'd prefer to avoid needing a permit, but in my city (Mill Creek, WA), a permit is required for anything taller than 12 feet. Thanks so much, and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
