Girl, you summed up *exactly* how I feel about traditionally published contemporary romance! Everything’s just fine. The characters are nice. Their dialogue is good. The scenes are nice. But it doesn’t challenge me or make me feel anything when I read. I just feel so blah. And that makes me sad

Yes! I feel like I’m ALWAYS saying, “It was fine” reading them! They’re not bad, but they’re not special.

I gave Emily Henry a second chance. I didn't really like Beach Read (it was just ok for me) but decided to give People We Meet on Vacation a shot and I am so glad I did. I absolutely loved it!! Gave it 5 stars. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to anyone who hasn't read it.

I really enjoyed The Intimacy Experiment! Not enough to read twice, but I think it’s a solid series and seeing a different side to Naomi was what I was looking forward to.

I agree that I loved getting to know Naomi more!

Listened to Twice Shy and the narrator really made the characters like able. Glad you enjoyed the ending. Almost always agree with your recommendations.

I haven't finished Twice Shy yet, (she just met the hero) but it almost seems like the daydreaming thing is Maladaptive Daydreaming, which is a coping mechanism from major psychological trauma? I'm wondering if it has to do with the heroine's mom thing.

Twice shy was giving us absolutely nothing. I enjoyed the anxiety rep but that’s about it 😭 but The intimacy experiment was everything!!!!! Ethan is such a cinnamon roll hero 🥰

Wesley was definitely the best thing about Twice Shy!

I'm not doing exactly this thing, but what I am doing is trying to read authors I already have in my TBR pile whom I've never read and who I also have on my "to buy" list. I just want to make sure I actually like an author before I start buying their next books. Hate to have two or three additional books of an author that just doesn't jive with me.

I actually rated both of those 5 stars, and I listened to the audiobook for both of them. I was underwhelmed by The Roommate, but ended up really liking The Intimacy Experiment, mostly because of Ethan. I also loved the exploration of sex and religion in that book. I also really liked Twice Shy! I kind of liked Maybell as the dreamer/imagination she lives in, and I found her hilarious. The narrator did an AMAZING job capturing her. And her connection with Wesley was super cute! And I'm a sucker for a virgin hero.

I bet the audiobook for Twice Shy was great!! I definitely enjoyed both books more because of the heroes!

I don't know. The whole pack up your life and just move someplace sight unseen might be odd to you, but I literally did it. Moved to south TX from eastern PA. Never stepped foot in TX before. And if offered a house and things were settled for me to just move, then yeah, I would. Without doing mega research on it. *shrug*

That’s completely fair! I guess I could personally never imagine doing that because that would terrify me!

Omg yes I couldn’t agree more! You Deserve Eachother was awful. I stopped few chapters into it and didn’t get the hype at all.

Jess, I see that you are also on Twitter and TikTok. I want to throw out an idea to you and some other Booktubers. Would you ever consider doing a video on how to get people from TikTok or Twitter to subscribe to your KZbin channel? I am thinking of starting a TikTok and Twitter.
@PeaceLoveBooksxo3 жыл бұрын
I have no idea how to do that 😂 my Twitter and Tik tok are so tiny and people are following those because they follow me on booktube.
