When I saw the Eagles in 1976, the crowd went nuts when Randy Meisner hit and held that high C. He got a standing ovation when the song ended. The crowd loved it so much that for an encore, the band played another song where he sang lead, "Midnight Flyer."

Nice reaction. This song was one of the reasons Randall Meisner, the lead singer on this, left the band. He didn't like being in the spotlight. Their constant touring was taking a toll on him & his family, not to mention his voice. There was a lot of friction & he was eventually replaced by bass player Timothy Schmit. (I Can't Tell You Why) I was in the concert biz back in the day, production, and got work with this group a few times. After Joe Walsh went solo he showed up at a stadium show we were doing with The Eagles & brought his softball team with him, uniforms and all. Had to issue a bunch more backstage passes & it looked like a small sports team convention with them all hanging out at the catering area. Was always a pleasure. ;0)

Randy Meisner was a underrated singer and bassist, he fired for a backstage fight with Glenn Frey. He also had conflict with Don Henley, he wanted big role in the creative process and the director of the band, big role on lead vocals. As a bassist myself its hard playing and singing, I am bassist because of Randy Meisner and Timothy B. Schmit.

All these guys are/were awesome vocalists and musicians. On this particular song it was Randy Meisner on lead vocals and bass guitar, Glen Frey on piano, Don Henley on drums, Don Felder on lead guitar and Joe Walsh on the acoustic guitar. I was in high school when this song came out, I loved the song then and still do 48 years later. For those of us who grew up in the 60's and 70's we were absolutely spoiled rotten musically because there was SO MUCH AMAZING music all around us. Man do I ever miss those days.

Randy was one of those first sing high play low guys. One of the best in the business! Loved how you all were slowly rocking back and forth to this song.
