Cheers mate, I didn't know about this track/area, keen to check it out some time. Keep up the good work. I reckon Blyth Hut is worth a video some day, great little hut with a lot of history.

Highly suggest Blyth Hut. Went there last year and my partner and I had the whole hut to ourselves! Such a lovely hidden gem 👍

@@LostKiwi just avoid the Old Blyth Track, it may look like a good idea because it extends the walk but it's not a great track. Better to spend some time up above the hut you can follow a poled route out above the treeline onto the lava field.

Hi Lost Kiwi I'm really enjoying this series of DOC hut videos. What size pack are you carrying? (litres) My partner and I are regular visitors to NZ from Australia, but we have done day walks in the past, not overnights. We are thinking of doing a couple of one night walks to DOC huts when we come to Northland and Coromandel regions in August, any suggestions? These huts are am amazing part of the NZ experience, we have trouble getting our authorities to even install a toilet at our walking tracks, let alone a public hut...

Hey Chris, cheers for the comment! So on this trip I had a small 25L pack since it wasa single night in summer and I tend to pack as light as I can. I usually carry a 44L pack now on multi-day trips. The Northland and Coromandel areas have the least DOC huts in the country, but the ones there are are awesome! I recommend peach cove hut, lane cove hut, pinnacles hut and crosbies hut, all relatively easy overnight trips.
