I’ve just purchased an eastman SB59 sunburst and it makes the gibson custom shop look ordinary I’m sorry to say and it was a third of the price Eastmans whole guitar process is extremely high quality...so anyone thinking of trying one PLEASE DO I guarantee you won’t buy a gibson instead “unless you are into names” the only guitar I’ve owned that was on par “though a lot more expensive” was a knaggs Steve Stevens it was two and a half times more expensive than my eastman and it was also a great guitar, I sold it because the fretboard was a little narrow.

The Eggle sounds the best, but my second favorite was the Eastman. Great price, amazing sound and love the finish of it, looking like an old bow instrument.

That was a great video! I own a PRS Paul's Guitar which I thoroughly enjoy playing. I also own an Eastman - same one you demoed. I love that guitar, it truly is a work of art, a pleasure to play and …. emotionally available in tone. (My all-time favorite is a 79 Yamaha Sg2000 - a treasure!) I enjoy watching you play. You're a talented guitarist.

Given how Jack plays on most PRS guitars (inspires to play and to buy), I think Paul Reed Smith should definitely reward him with a PRS semi-hollow special Jack needs in his collection 🥰

You're killing it Jack! I much prefer hearing your opinions and specs of guitars rather than just a straight playing demo. It doesn't really matter how a guitar sounds on a KZbin video that most play through their little phone speakers anyway. But hearing you compare pickups or neck feel would really help. I've got a few Gibson LPs and I'm looking at trying something different. I like the Eastman 57 and 59, but another good one is the Godin Summit Supreme ltd(I may be biased living in Canada). I don't think you can go wrong with any of these though!

I have 2 custom shop 58 reissues and they are brighter then my USA les Paul's but they also have more depth to the sound and have wider frequency range . They are brighter but at the same time deeper sounding but they deepness does not add darkness. Crazy are also quite even sounding despite being brighter with a upper mid and treble focus. Gibson is really doing a great job offering guitars that represent the variations of the vintage gibson tone and the different eras of gibson tone . There seems to be alot more effort going into tone and pickups the last few years and they now have a quite wide variety of pickup options where before they had 2 to 3 options for USA guitars and 1 option for the custom shop none of which represented their classic vintage tone.

I think the early custom shop guitars from the 2000's were still higher quality then the original series.. The burst buckers are the key to that tone for sure. I had an R8 plaintop when they were 2500 bucks. I didn't care for it IMO. The neck was huge way-bigger then the original series 50's(which they should be). Each guitar sounds different. I currently have 50's original and Heritage artisan aged 150 they both rock! In the end none are perfect - that Eastman woow!! Cheers boys

The OX4 Low-Wind humbuckers are the only boutique I’ve encountered that get the sweetness of these Custombuckers. Put in my 2011 ‘57 Historic, gorgeous.

Have you tried the Monty’s PAFs, the PAF replicas by Throbak (especially in my opinion the KZ-115, although the SLE-101 is meant to be the flagship and is a great pickup I personally prefer the KZ) or the pickups from German maker Kloppmann (especially his HB58 in my opinion)? The KZ-115 and Kloppmann HB58 are my favourites and in my view marginally outperform the Gibson Custombuckers (the previous lightly potted ones, the 2019 onwards unpotted ones as heard here or the Wildwood spec ones). The OX4s are also on my list to try... I just need the right donor Les Paul to put a set in. 🙂

@CenterThePendulum 4 жыл бұрын
David Burke I’ve tried Throbak (also prefer the kz-115) and Wizz, didn’t like the Monty online demos but you know how thats goes. None of this was in the same guitar though. Had HEAVILY considered the Rewind Electric but hit a point where it was time to be playing, as much fun as soldering can be. Haven’y tried Kloppman but we’ll see how curious I get over the next few decades - it’s all good, fun experimentation!
@davidburke2132
@davidburke2132 4 жыл бұрын
Bryce G. yeah, same as you I’ve not tried all these pickups in the same guitar. To be honest it would defeat the object as I’m using the different pickups to partially justify my Les Paul buying/collecting habit not to rigorously analyse the different pickups. 😛 If you do decide to try a Kloppmann pickup at some stage I’d strongly recommend the HB58. I have an R7 with HB57s in and an R8 with the HB58 and the HB58s are the closest in sound to my favourite R8 with the Throbak KZ-115s (the sound is incredibly close... even I would struggle to distinguish between the two through my own rig). So if you like the Throbak KZ-115s I think you’d probably like the Kloppmann HB58 set too. The sound samples on the Kloppmann website ended up being very representative of the tones I get from my own guitars with those pickups fitted.

Bryce G. PS. Alongside the “standard” OX4 low winds the Wizz PAFs are also high on my wish list. What did you think of those?
@CenterThePendulum
@CenterThePendulum 4 жыл бұрын
David Burke I liked them, probably at the #2 slot for me. And I get the excuse for more instruments! My arsenal’s about pickup variety. One LP with hotter HB and coil splits, ‘57 reissue goldtop for Vintage Specs, Lp ‘57 Special for P90’s, es335 with p94 neck and classic ‘57 bridge, HSS strat. Future holds probably a Firebird for mini Humbuckers then you know, can’t forget the filtertrons....PRS Paul’s Guitar with the TCIs recently made the wishlist!

The best sounding Gibosn custom shop reissue les Paul's are from the early 2000s . The 2001 to 2003 are untouchable for les paul reissue tone . The mid 2001 to late 2002 custom authentic 58 les Paul reissues with early Burstbucker 2 and 3 pickups is the best sounding modern les paul I have ever heard . Those early BB2 and BB3 were quite different from the newer ones . I love the newer ones too but those very early BB2 and 3 were cut above the newer ones . They were brighter and tighter sounding and more aggressive but would soften up with rolling down the volume and tone . They did the Jimmy page thing quite well . The best sounding neck pickup I have ever heard was a 2001 Burstbucker 2 with an Alnico 3 magnet. Nailed jimmy pages live clean tone and nailed his live Rain song tone

I suspect if you roll the bass off on the amp eq you could get the standard to sound closer to the reissue. The Eastman sounds really nice. Nearly bought one pre pandemic. I bought a relic tele custom instead which is my ideal Les Paul. For now.

I definitely NEED to see the Duesenberg 59er and 49er versus a Les Paul AND a Johnny A Stoptail. I would like the versatility of the 25.5" scale ( and the closed voice chords on 25.5 " but still have a near Jazz Tone in the neck .Though I don't actually play Jazz . It's modern expanded R&B . Thanks . You play very interesting stuff sometimes and aren't afraid to play clean for more than 37.84 seconds ...lol.

For many years most people always thought the vintage gibson sound was a darker very warm sound with a quite rounded top end and Gibsom marketed the vintage Gibson tone in this manner and seemed to cater to this misconception. The darker vintage tones came from bright pickups 50s wiring and use of the tone and volume pots . Many people were mystified by Gibson moving towards brighter pickups with more top end that had more emphasis on upper mids and treble and not as bass and low mid heavy as the 57 classic tone

The antiquities are not actually underwood in fact they are vintage overwound the neck is 7.7k and the bridge is 8.6k which is the hotter side of vintage at least in the bridge but they sound underwood due to the heavily degaussed magnet . Put fully charged magnets in the antiquities and they no longer sound underwound .

Gibson has not moved on from custombuckers . The MHS pickups were used only for the Memphis ES guitars . The custombuckers are used for the customshop ES guitars like the 1959 1961 1963 and 1964 335s. The MHS pickups were designed and tuned specifically for hollow and semi hollow electrics and it seems that gibisn have moved on from the MHS pickups as all of the non custom shop ES guitars now all come with gibson t type pickups which are a modern take on the t top Plickup. They have never used the MHS pickups in any les Paul's or SGs ETC.

The ABR bridges are not the same as the originals, the saddles have a sharp angle & a narrow flat across the top which produces treble peaks, the true original les pauls had softer alloy bridges & the saddles a gentle sloped angle with a wider flat across the top, producing a smoother but open sound, a completely different bridge, non of their re-issues have the correct bridge, they all have the newer (shit) style ABR's on them including the new 60th anniversary guitars, they are great guitars but not true historics as they claim. Check out pics of late 50's ABR bridges & saddles, the difference is clear to see, watch a youtube video called "the les paul that isn't"
@francissalva9307
@francissalva9307 4 жыл бұрын
@@keithbrown1087 i agree but there are also versions with sharp edges. just check the ig page of @cartervintageburst and you'll see. during the 50's consistency has been an issue thats why there are different versions of parts of the guitars during that time although differences may be subtle
@keithbrown1087
@keithbrown1087 4 жыл бұрын
@@francissalva9307 Yes, fair comment, I understand that there were problems with the softer alloy bridges collapsing on some due to the heavy gauge strings they used back in the day, i'm sure some would have been fitted with different versions to try alleviate the problem, others that have survived may well have had their bridges replaced early on, I really made the comment because of the treble problem the guy was having, a sharp pointed saddle produces this the old flatter saddle gives a smoother yet still open top end, the sound that most of us prefer, Gibson to my knowledge have never fitted re-issues with these 50's saddles in their ABR's, PRS have copied them into their own design bridge, check out the saddles in those, more historic than Gibson historics & have achieved very good results, why not Gibson ? added expense maybe
