I'm confused. In the written instructions it says not to layer too thick to avoid crazing and therefore dinnerware safeness which implies if put on the proper thickness it would be dinnerware safe. Then when someone asked if this is dinnerware safe the answer suggests no guarantee. Conflicting and confusing as I used it on a bowl. Please clarify.

If there is crazing that is tangible and reaches the surface, some may not want to use for dinnerware. This all depends on the clay body that has been used, the temperature it is fired to, and the users pesonal preference. If the clay is vitrified, it can be used as dinnerware if you desire.

Yes to both.

Thank you - this is very beautiful. What is the glaze on the outside, please? From the picture in the instruction notes, it looks kind of tan. Can the same technique work on the outside of bisque ware, or would it run too much? TIA!

There are 3 coats of Amber Quartz on the outside of the bowl. It will work on the outside of a piece, too. If you are worried about glaze running on the outside of a piece, you can recede your coats of glaze.

Gorgeous!! I'm actually glad to know that precision application isn't that important for excellent results! Where do you order those tips for the stoke n coats?

Lovely. Will this work for low fire or do the glazes not get hot enough? What could I used instead of the Amber Quartz, since that is cone 5/6?
@MaycoColors2 жыл бұрын
This is a stoneware project and the glazes will not mature at lower temperatures. EL-140 toasted almond may work as a low-fire alternative, but the Wash and SC will also perform different in this project when fired to cone 06.

Hey, Thank you for sharing his technique. I applied it and the results were very similar. I have a question regarding dinner safety. After firing the pieces there is a yellow area at the bottom of the piece which is not shiny. I imagine this is part of the amber glaze. Is the piece in this conditions dinner safe or should I apply a clear glaze on that area and re-fire the piece? I used a stone ware bowl from Mayco. Thanks in advanced for your response.

We do not suggest glazing the bottom of your stoneware pieces. We also can never guarantee the dinnerware safety of a piece especially when layering glazes. It is up to the artist to test for leaching and check for cracks and crevices. In regards to the yellow spot, we would suggest emailing our technical team for more info with a picture at technical@maycocolors.com

Gorgeous bowl! s this glaze combination food safe?
@MaycoColors2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Although this project is using glazes that are all recommended for dinnerware, we can not guarantee the Food/Dinnerware Safe standing for glaze combinations since we have not had them all tested.

Can you do peacock pattern with any other top colours?
@MaycoColors2 жыл бұрын
You sure can! Keep in mind the performance of the color you layer on top though. If it is a very stiff or stable glaze, it will not produce as much mobility. If you haven't yet, check out Mayco Mudroom Society on Facebook. You can find lots of inspiration there and discuss our products with other users! facebook.com/groups/maycomudroomsociety

How about more than 5 seconds of footage of the finished piece? Would be nice to see, you know, the outside, or even the inside without that terrible lighting glare.

The project instructions are linked in the description if you'd like to look at additional photos and maybe you could adjust your attitude along the way! 😉

@@MaycoColors The correct response is: "I see what you mean. I've got the pottery stuff figured out, but I'm still working on my video editing and lighting. Hopefully you still learned something or found the rest of the video interesting. Thank you for the feedback!" He took the time to help you improve with specific, good faith criticism and a suggestion to make that improvement happen. Most creators would be thrilled to get honest feedback, especially if it is about something they haven't mastered, like video editing and presentation. If your response doesn't add value to anything, why even make it?
