What a place to camp, those views down the Derwent valley are to die for mate. There are some wonderful rock formations there too, this is one place I am definitely going to camp at some point. Thanks for another uplifting video Steve, I hope you are keeping well and hope we can arrange another camp soon.

Looks like that was a good one Steve and certainly the best views from there. I visited that spot last year with my younger brother and he climbed on top of that stone. I’ve only walked up from that side once when there was a youth hostel at Langset. Thanks for taking us along Steve. Tek care. 🍺

Cheers Dave for watching. It certainly was a lovely little trek up Cut Gate. It had been so long since I last did that route, in-fact, I can only remember walking down to Langsett and not the other way around, it's been that long.🙂

Thanks Steve. These winter cold and dark camps take some doing! Thanks for showing the details of your set up. I tried an alcohol stove on my Edale rocks video, but wasnt too keen on the huge flame that shoots up when you first light it. I think I was using bioethanol, what do you use? Im going for boiling water and re heating rice/food pouches in these colder months, boil a pan, stick the pouches in for five minutes, then tip them into your food dish. You can then use the water to make your drinks. Admire you for persevering, and carrying four beers for five miles!
@Hengists_Wild_Camps Жыл бұрын
Hi Phil and thanks for watching. I also use bioethanol as it doesn't give off the toxic fumes of Meth's which is good when cooking inside the tent. The flame on a trangia can get a bit lively until it blooms and you get the jets appearing. Last year I switched to the non-spill type spirit stoves. They don't require any time needed to bloom and you can get simmer rings for them to reduce the flame output, which are similar to how trangia does it. That's a good idea about using the boil in the bag water for a brew.👍

Fantastic there once again! Cracking spot you found. I have been tempted for some time to rise up from the Langsett side but been worried about the car park there with the big gates. Is overnight parking okay in the car park? Thank you again for your video story. Cheers, Warren :)
@Hengists_Wild_Camps Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the comment Warren. I think, like at Derwent, there may be signs about no overnight parking (I didn't notice to be honest), but I always interpret those signs at being aimed at Campervans. I'm going to continue to park at these places overnight, as I've done so for years mate.🙂

What sleeping bag are you using for the winter ❄️
@Hengists_Wild_Camps Жыл бұрын
@@steveoutdoors6522 Hi Steve, like the majority of my equipment, it's a cheapo bag which cost me around £65 quid from Amazon a few years ago. It's a down bag from China, by a brand that I can't even pronounce and I've never heard of, or seen the company sell anything else. The bag is a 700 fill, with a comfort rating of -3'C and a survival limit of -8'C, and it weighs under a kilo. I was highly sceptical about the bag comfort rating claims, but it turned out to be true (that's with me wearing my clothes). If it gets colder, then I put on my down over trousers and booties, plus synthetic jacket on inside the bag as well. If the temp drops below -6'C, then I layer up by using my summer +10'C bag as an outer shell for the down bag. If it gets even colder, then I put the two bags inside a bivvy for another layer. Using just the down bag and wearing my clothes plus down over trousers, booties and synthetic jacket, I've slept in -6'C temps and was perfectly warm.👍

Could you do a pitching video of your tent have seen a few videos have problems getting the inner right what hight do set your pole thanks
@Hengists_Wild_Camps10 ай бұрын
When you see me pitching it in my videos Steve, what I do in order (which I probably don't capture) is first; Peg out each of the 4 corners of the fly (and groundsheet if you have one), tight enough so that the edges of the fly are taught with no slack and the pegs with their guidelines are tensioned at diagonals to the corners. Then I crawl inside and stick the pole up as far as needed until I think that the fly looks okay (I've forgotten what Alpkit suggest and have never paid any attention to it anyway lol). Then I put the 4 remaining side pegs on the fly and tension any of the 8 of them as needed. Lastly, I peg out the inner (I sometimes only use 2 pegs for this and share the corner points with the fly corner pegs) and then I attach it via the hanging point thing and adjust it for tension on the buckle.👍

Nice one Steve, was that Flouch car park you stuck the car in? Are there any fees there? I'm thinking about doing another one of the pub walks in that book I was given and it starts at that car park. Also handy to know if/when I want to go up Margery Hill from that location. Was that Margery Hill trig you visited on the way back? BTW - Have a great birthday, and don't over do the ale, you aren't getting any younger ;-)
@Hengists_Wild_Camps Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Andy. Yes it was Flouch CP, and no there wasn't any CP fees. There may have been a sign about no overnight parking, but they're aimed at camper vans, or so I would say in my defence.🙂 The trig was the one at the top of Cut Gate, where it hits the crossroad, i.e. Carry on down Little Cut Gate to Howden dam, turn left for Margery Hill or right for Outer Edge (the way that we came back).👍
