I tested out this 14x6.5 Pearl Free Floating Brass snare drum in 3 different tuning ranges. All examples are without any EQ or compression.

Don't like the low tuning, but the medium and high? Perfect! I love my Pearl FF snare, too (same size but with the Maple shell).

That snare sounds like a dream... What are the heads, how loose is the snarewire adjustment and in what tuning was the resohead? Its nice to see that someone played with and without rimshots :)

Thanks. The snare had a Remo coated Ambassador X on top and the bottom was a snare side clear Ambassador which was tuned in a medium/tight tuning, definitely on the tighter side. The snares themselves were tightened up until the the point that the drum sounded choked, and then backed off a quarter of a turn each so that they sustain just slightly after the drum is hit.

But in a mix? Listen to isolated drums on dark side of the moon. Not how you'd think you want your snare to sound, but it's what worked.
