Steven is the only gem that can fuse with humans because he is half human half gem so rose could not fuse with greg and Steven can fuse with connie! 💫

Without spoiling things, it's very telling how Rose reacts to Greg asking her to talk like a real person. She's never seen herself that way, and no one has really treated her that way. "Is this not how it works?" That's heartbreaking, thinking about how shallowly she sees herself as her own being. Greg is the catalyst for her growth as a "real person".

16:15 actually, fun fact, the shape of the Kindergarten Injectors is based on bacteriophages, which are viruses that infect bacteria specifically, not humans, but you are correct on the inspiration being a virus :) Human and other animal viruses tend to look round & covered in spikes (like COVID-19) as this design is better for viruses that "live" inside of their larger hosts for longer periods, whereas bacteria are only one cell each, so bacteriophages inject just their genetic material into their hosts, which then makes enough copies of the phage to destroy the host from the inside, releasing them to infect others. Inspiration is such a fascinating thing ;) makes you wonder what this says about the Gem Homeworld...

I remember watching SU as it aired and stuff like this was very shocking, at least to me then it rolling to some shit like Clarence or uncle grandpa 🤣 but the Gumball, adventure time and regular show blocks helped. Especially since CN had such an erratic airing for SU so sometimes there would be like months before we got more chunks of the show. And same with me, stevonnie helped me to realize and put to words how I felt and that I was nonbinary plus the relationships in the show allowing me to realize it’s okay to let love guide you and not be scared of the feelings you have.

Garnet freezing up and nearly falling apart in Keeping It Together scared the shit out of me when i first saw it the day it came out, in a similar way that Steven was. We look up to Garnet in the same way, even without realizing it, and seeing her not know how to react is just as chilling as the forced shard fusions

and yeah, i think stevonnie was a lightbulb moment for a generation of repressed queers-just this expression of pure euphoria in who they are, layered with a relatable undercurrent of anxiety and confusion when faced with other people's behavior toward them. i certainly wouldn't have connected those dots about myself the way i did, without that character. like, six years ago i wasn't even a full person. but then putting myself in stevonnie's head to write a fanfic, it was clear their voice was a catalyst for something deeper and more genuine in my operating system, that i'd never had an opportunity to listen to or question. if you get the chance, absolutely please read issue #2 of the su ongoing comic. i think it's actually that story, even more than the show itself, that set the gears spinning, and allowed me to develop a working relationship with myself for the first time.

Bear in mind, those gem fragments... that's like reanimating a mass grave. It's a reanimated warcrime. So out of context, it could be a more horrifying monster arm or whatever, but... trauma. Add in fusion to all that? Alone Together is often taken as a wonderful expression of trans euphoria, being in a body you really LOVE, discovering how to be a person again. Amethyst's regeneration ep has shades of that as well... there's a lot of layered metaphors in this show around different kinds of identity and relationships.

​@@-i_own_you_-Right? One of the main messages of the show is that not every relationship dynamic is healthy. Yeah, there was a definite power imbalance even in the later days and it was not a truly healthy relationship for Pearl, but it was definitely love.
