Shane you've been a great help in customizing my Music City Custom kit! (C#114 ice blue oyster) the two week turnaround is incredible and the drums are safely shipped direct. The drums them selves are just beautifully crafted with all the best components. chrome aluminum opt mounts for all toms* Remo pinstripe heads. right out of the box to the kit, they sounded amazing!

Reminds me of early 70s Rogers drums. I just checked out some of these drums recently and they immediately reminded me of a Rogers set I sold recently. Phenomenal drums, they go from a whisper to and explosion!

Nice sounding kit. Love the 4 ply with the re-rings. The Reference ones are so good as well. SO much better than the mid line masters kits. Guess ya have to sit behind them and big difference.. I see many of these on the road, good reason. Nice job Pearl, got me back into the brand.

I would. We were playing with Testament last year and Hoglan was on one of these and they sounded amazing! I'm still with Ludwig CM myself, I find them hard to leave lol

These are the best sounding pearl drums I've heard in person. I believe these are what Ian Paice uses. I haven't heard the maple/gum in person but I have a Gretsch USA custom, those are supposed to be basically the same formula as the USA Customs. When I hit these in person I thought to myself they sounded just like my early 70s Rogers set I used to have.

The Presidents are also on par with those. My teacher Francis Filion who used to play nothing else other than custom Craviotto kits switched to a Pearl President recently. The wood fibreglass are also superior for that big explosive Bonham sound.

Are these much different from the Pearl MMX drums from the mid 90's? I ask because the MMX had 4ply maple shells aswell.

Are you saying that the masters line has been cheapened in its production or that it has just been perceived that way?

They are made in China now if I remember correctly. Still nice drums but limited finishes and made in more of a mass produced way. I had a 1998 MMX kit and it was awesome.

Pearl is STILL right behind DW in quality (DW being #1) in mass produced high end kits that still affordable....I have 2 Pearl kits myself (an EXR custom component kit & a Roadshow jazz kit) and BOTH sound GREAT...Pearl's hardware,drum racks, & pedals are also some of THE best in the industry...

Rob Singletary Tama and Pearl annihilate DW in sound and Price. Even hardware.. It’s unjustifiable that Tama and Pearl make kits that sound just as good or better than the DW Collectors series for a fraction of the money. Not to mention the very expensive Pearl or Tama kits, those kill DW entirely. A Starclassic Maple or a Reference Pure (not even their flagships) are some of the best kits in the entire market. Just saying.. Buying DW is just buying a brand logo. Good drum sets that are very overrated and overpriced

DW makes fantastic drums, but too expensive. Pearls sounds as great as dws but cheaper.

I was super pissed when they made the masters a midrange kit!!!!! I bought my dream mmx in diamondburst. 22 10 12 14 16 + 6 1/2 matching snare!! It was pearls all singing all dancing top of the line kit!! When I had to sell it nobody knew what they were getting!! They thought it was a midrange kit!! It was like new and all I could get for it after multiple ebay listings was £700!! The bass drum was worth more!! This was years ago and I still feel sick lol!!

Yep. I had the same on my mint Emerald Green MMX Kit I sold. 10,12,16,22. I think I only got $750 for it, but I wasn’t using it anymore.
