Guys!!! Pearl Jam has been a political band since the beginning. Eddie wrote "pro choice" on his arm during the unplugged. They boycotted Ticketmaster. They have done multiple songs that criticize social issues in the past. I don't understand why people are so shocked about this song. It's talking about a current social issue that they feel strongly about,I don't see the problem here. They have done it before. With that being said I understand some people might want the old,early 90s sound but this band has been around for twenty years + ,of course they won't be performing the same stuff they performed when they were in their 20s. Bands have to evolve,take a look at the RHCP or even Green Day,they have changed their sound throughout the years because that's part of the creative process that comes along with being a musician.Listen to the song,let it grow on you and if it still doesn't,wait to see what they'll come out with next. Don't be an asshole about it,there's not need to be one.

This songs ahead of its time, that’s all. It’s amazing some of the comments you read by some people. They haven’t made a good record or song since blah blah blah .. yet my 10C seats get further away and instead of 12-14,000 seat sold out arenas, it’s 40,000 seat stadiums. The last two CDs were excellent. The Fixer, and just breathe were very good singles off Backspacer and Mind your manners and Sirens (especially )were big hits off Lightning Bolt. That’s just the singles, the rest of the CDs are pretty damn good. NO two CDs sound the same. As for the using Kurt Cobains early critique as a way to be “ cool” or hip. He only said what he said because PJ is a more rock n roll band and Mike McCready played big giant solos , etc. Nirvana was pure punk inspired. He also had an immense jealousy toward PJ. He initially was on top in 91’and by 93’ PJ was the biggest band in the world !! People close have admitted this including Courtney and former managers. Fact is people tried baiting Kurt into a bashing war soon after and he outgrew it n knew it to be petty and really like Ed a lot.Thought he was a nice guy and the same fans loved both bands usually. So carrying the Cobain flag of dissing them is corny. The thing about PJ is they are constantly pushing the boundaries of trying to diversify their sound. As much as I like RHCP as soon as you hear the music you know it’s them. AK sings one way. PJ has a type of song for any and everyone. You may hate 50 songs but I bet there’s 2 or 3 you do like whether you’re honest with yourself or not. If you don’t like , and this is just winging it ... Black, Not for you, Rearview Mirror, Dissident, Last Kiss, Corduroy , Yellow Leadbetter ,Given to Fly ? Or say Evenflow , Betterman or Just Breathe? Not one of them is okay in your book? Then chances are you basically don’t like rock music or..you hate PJ so much you refuse to be open and honest with yourself.

José Mauricio The fact that they make these types of songs that I'm sure they anticipated would alienate some, along with so many of their other actions, exhibits their integrity. The way you describe them is literally the antithesis of who they are. The fact that you're posting such negative comments on a page that contains their music, which you claim to dislike so much, points to you having a personal, probably petty, reason that induces the need you feel to troll them. Lame.

But the "Ten" album, before P.J. was famous "in the D" , I took it with me way over to the east side, was abused felt it was a way out. I didn't join up, it was peace time. Blared the music in Navy housing. It got me through. True story. Love and peace. (Never used a weapon or held one either, was alone, ex joined up, not me). Hugs. P.S. 17 days without a cigarette, quit drinking in 2012, became a vegan. No help but my own will to do so and what I learned on my own. Pearl Jam forevermore! :-)

Ever since TEN came out i liked pearl jam the most out of all music bands, it suited me. It was something new to me. I was in my teenage years so i could put raw emotion in it when listening, Alive was a song about my father that died not his. Thats when music becomes healing, becomes aggressive, becomes a learning experience. I am not one to have a idol, or be a "huge fan" of a person or group. Pearl Jam has helped me , has brought me smiles, brought me a lot really. So when a band ages and we age just like them things change, perspective changes, rawness becomes smoother. I liked all records they brought, simply cause they are part of my youth and the "sound" belongs in my life so to say. If you look for that TEN feeling you had back in the days, stop searching or buying, its impossible, enjoy the music for what it is today or do not follow. Haha at least they did not become the Rolling Stones that are a couple of dead body`s on stage only riding on the name rolling stones, PearlJam still creates...
@turnstilerockets6 жыл бұрын
Unpopular opinions coming your way: Your political views don't matter much. You can enjoy a protest song and be on the side that it's against! This song is actually pretty awesome. It's definitely different from most of Pearl Jam's other stuff but it still sounds like them…and IS them for crying out loud! I know of several bands who have made many different sounding songs and albums. This is one of them. This song really isn't a huge shocker as this band has made songs about society issues in the past. Being homeless in Even Flow and actual news of kids shooting themselves in school in Jeremy are a couple examples. These guys aren't afraid of telling the world about the issues society has in their music! That's one reason why I love them so much!

The subject of Trump is far too divisive. Pearl jam have always brought people together with their music but this just creates more unneeded tension.
@valeriy85023 жыл бұрын
@@themanalligator4813 They have always taken a stand on issues like women's reproductive rights which is a very polarized topic, and oh yes, as I recall made some very blatant statements about Bush. There is a song named for him. I wouldn't have known this song had anything to do with Trump if hadn't heard people being offended by it. And Do the Evolution or the Masters of War cover... They have always called out actions or people they see as wrong. I don't think their music has always just blindly brought people together without recognizing real problems.

People who don't like this song and are saying how disappointed they are after waiting five years really don't know pearl jam. They love starting out with a political punk-ish song, but it's never an indication as to how great the album really is. On the last album, they started with world wide suicide and the haters came up. Then we all got to hear sirens, which is a pure gem. So just wait, pearl jam is diverse and I'm pretty sure this album will be no exception. I'm thrilled and i know it will be awesome. They are and always will be my favorite band. Every band has its evolution, and they can play whatever they want to, without owing any explanation why they do it different or not. They feel like playing this right now, let's wait until the full album is released, and then judge. And if you are not in the same path, just listen to something different. Hold your judgement, give some time to the music and lyrics, and shut your mouth.

I feel like no one here gets or realizes that this was released on the same day as the "march for our lives" protests and the one month anniversary of the Parkland Florida shooting. The girl on the cover is supposed to symbolize all the kids that were called out for being "fake" or "crisis actors". Whether it's bandwagoning or not, I can't say. People should understand why the song was made though.

Kurt Cobain Layne Staley Chris Cornell Scott Weiland Eddie Vedder I'd argue Billy Corgan could go on that list, and he's still alive.

Zachary Rizzo excuse me? Alice in Chains had 2 vocalist and Jerry Cantrell is still making awesome music. You should hear his song from the John Wick 2 Soundtrack 'Job to Do'. Plus new AIC album coming this 2018.

I am a pretty conservative person and a huge pearl Jam fan. I don't understand why people are so shocked and outraged by this. Pearl Jam has always been very left leaning AND vocal about it. From MTV unplugged in 92 with Eddie writing PRO CHOICE on his arm with a sharpie to World Wide Suicide, and now this. The key to being a pearl Jam fan is just pretending that stuff like this doesn't exist. Lol

He also caught some flak for impaling a George W. Bush Mask with his mic stand, which was pretty cool. And don’t forget the song Bu$hleaguer.

or not being a conservative and out of touch with society and people who are a lot less fortunate than yourself. If you want to live in a conservative world head to the middle east or Russia where you have zero rights and everything is controlled by the people with money.

jebusgod So because I said that I am conservative this means you automatically know me and my situation? This is why our country is so divided. People are so quick to shut out others that have opposite opinions. It makes it almost impossible to find a solution to anything. This happens on both sides by the way. Have a great day!
