It's a shame mark never the love he so greatly deserved he was an amazing person and extremely gifted artist I still remember the first time I heard him on the singles soundtrack with screaming trees playing I nearly lost you there I was about 13 or 14 years old from the Midwest where everyone still listened to Garth Brooks and George Strait and all of sudden I heard Mark Eddie and Chris Cornell for the first time off that soundtrack and my world changed I'm 44 years old now and I still listen to Seattle sound I sure miss the 90s sleep well Mr Lanegan and thank you for being a part of my life

Mark knew how loved he was, he never did get his dues from the mainstream American media tho -- he was never a marketable sex symbol and wasn't a grunge rocker at heart, he was a genuine wordsmith and songwriting genius who was in the league of Nilsson, Cash, Haggard, Newman, Cohen, you name em, Mark could sing side by side to them.and blow them away.

I feel the same. I'm 42 from Australia. Loved him since Singles in 1992. Almost all my favourite singers are dead. Of the Big 5 Seattle Pantheon- only Eddie Vedder remains. That was my very first concert in 95. I'm crying my eyes out over this man, as I did over Chris Cornell 5 years ago and Prince and Bowie the year before that. I wish he knew how much he was loved. A lot of them lived very fast lives and developed extremely large drug addictions. It's not really supernatural. Cornell's the only one confirmed to not be a victim of substance abuse or substance abuse related. Andy died from OD, Kurt commited suicide after a multi day binge. Layne slowly OD'd over the course of many years. If you include Weiland even though not from Seattle he also died from OD. Untill we get confirmation otherwise it's entirely possible Mark unfortunately could have fallen off the wagon. Eddie's still around cos he never got in to really heavy shit, same with Mark Arm of Mudhoney, Buzz Osbourne of The Melvins And Tad from Tad. Jerry Cantrell kicked his coke habit ages ago. Here's hoping he doesn't magically relapse.

It kills me to think of how many friends Eddie has lost over the years. The number is truly staggering. Aside from the singers of some of the lesser known grunge bands, Eddie is the last one who is still with us. We’ve lost Andy Wood from Mother Love Bone, Kurt Cobain, Shannon Hoon, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell, and Mark Lanegan. So many amazing voices, and so many amazing men. Their art will stand the test of time. I’m so thankful for Eddie and the guys in Pearl Jam. ❤

I had the great pleasure to play on Marks last tour in 2019. We hit it off almost immediately. Turned out he was listening to my old band in his 20's. After bullying him to share his birthday cake in Bucharest, we swapped stories and laughs. This extended to when my daughter came when we reached London and played at the Roundhouse. I think Mark mentioned somewhere it was THE gig he loved. He could not have been more warm and friendly to her. We were to have worked together just before Covid wave hit. A opportunity that was never to be. Thoughts go out to Shelly, Sleep well big man x Mike

Beautiful tribute Eddie, you’re always so heartfelt. You’re right, Seattle was the most famous city in the world when I grew up in the early 90’s. So much of the music was & remains truly awesome and the people who sang those great songs had stories & lives that were out there. Mark was on another level, his charisma & intelligence not to mention good humor always shining through in interviews. I even met him briefly once, 4 1/2 years ago when he signed his book, it was one of those short encounters that you will never forget. The guy had a presence to him that few people possess, difficult to put into words. Mark, thank you 🙏 for everything, including so many great artists you’ve pointed us in the direction of. A few years back when Eddie performed at the Oscars. I believe i just sat and cried during it. Knowing he’s basically the only one left from Seattle still standing. ( Calm down, I know Dave Grohl, Jerry Cantrell, a few others. But Eddie’s spent his majority with PJ, not MLB.) it’s just so sad

1) he’s not from Seattle 2) Dave grohl is horrible 3) tons of PNW guys are still alive. Most of them are still around

Screaming Trees is my absolute favorite band and it’s unbelievable knowing that Mark’s gone. Only known the trees for over half a decade now but it feels like I have a life time. They’re my number 1 creative inspiration and Mark is easily favorite singer. Rest In Peace Mark. I’ll continue to listening forever.

One of my all-time favorite bands as well. Even though they are technically "famous" and had a hit, their overall records are still so under-appreciated. Just great classic rock songs, playing and singing.
