+Rob Chapman This may sound a bit selfish, but i already have quite a few Peaveys. I live in eastern Canada and strongly considering buying an ML-1 where Chapman Guitars isn't even heard of. So if you could sneak any of your guitars into any of 6505 line would be super. Understandable if not possible.

Rob, I picked up the Peavey Valve King MH 20 on Nov 10 2015. Like you I love it!! At 1W I can get amazing power tube distortion at a volume level that won't piss off the neighbors. It also responds extremely well to pedal in front of the amp. Thanks for the review

I own one of these, and love it. Incredibly versatile. Great clean channel that can be foundation for pedals. Great drive channel that can do classic to mid boost to mid scoop. Reverb is good. The boost function on the drive all but eliminates the need for a drive pedal. Works really well. Great amp for a great price.

Back in' 74 someone gave me a Fender Tele and a 1X12 Peavy twead-grilled amp! ((I KNOW! )) God told him to! Co-incidentally I'm a Torontonian who can attest to the emotional satisfaction of a Peavy amp. Our principal music shop is Long & McQuade. I've dealt with them since the late 60's when they were a crowded one room shop on Yonge Street. Now they're coast to coast in Canada. Keep up the good intel on the goods my man! Cheers!

I had just purchased this head. It accepts my pedal board very well. The clean side of this amp is so transparent it hardly breaks up at all up on 10 so i this is a great little alternative to my fender hotrod deville. Aside from that you have send and return on the back and a di amp sim out. The dirt side of the amp is just all peavey but doesn't sound bad. The 1 watt setting gets really low for late night jamming so all and all great little head.

Wow Rob. I'm guessing that you found the tone (and the happy memories of Peavey Bandits) inspirational, because your playing was tasteful, toneful, and stripped down to beautiful essentials. Thank you for sharing!

Rob, I've been gigging with this amp and a modest pedal board (mainly for the wah, chorus, delay and Channel switch) for almost two years and love it to death. I have a Marshall, an older Dime and a Crate GXL1200 as well, all 100 watts plus. And they're all great, But this little head is the only one that leaves the house. I can do everything from The Hollies and SRV to Iron Maiden and Trivium, and beyond with this thing with a simple twist of the volume pot on the guitar. I quad track my guitars when I record and use 2 mics on the cab, then two with the xlr or the USB (usually during those 2 am "I have to get this down" wake up calls that my wife doesn't enjoy at that hour). Bus them together in Reaper and it's done. The mic emulation is really quite good, I agree. The package, as a whole, was worth every cent. I contemplated getting the 100 watt version for gigs to try and compete with the high wattage of the rest of the band and found, quite surprisingly, that I didn't need it. That, and big valve heads look cool on a 4x12. They use solid state amps for convenience and a complete lack of maintenance and they sound great. I simply don't need 100 watts to keep up. A little boost in the mixer and I'm there. A quick stomp on the boost switch and I have my lead tone. Done. I recommend these to everyone that asks. Great review, by the way. I love watching you, Lee and Rabea and I look forward to many more of your postings. Cheers.

Just recently picked one of these up. I'm kind of a hack, and have been playing for a year or so but I really appreciate how versatile this amp is. I'm playing through a 112 cabinet that I build myself through a Weber Legacy 12 speaker. I get a really great rockabilly and old school country sound with a Gretsch Pro-Jet, Flashback delay and Hall Of Fame reverb pedal. A little bit of "Persuader" OD gives it a nice blues grit to a classic rock crunch on the clean channel. More "Persuader" is great for metal, and the OD channel is good for lead (not that I'm anything more than a middling rhythm player at this point.)

@Akerfeldtfan
@Akerfeldtfan 9 жыл бұрын
+Mario Krušelj I have a 50W valveking 1 combo with a vintage 30 clone in it. Mods can be found here: ultimate-guitar-valveking.wikispaces.com/Amp+Mods+-+Electronics Some of the ones I did include: 1) The "mesa" mod 2) The JCM mod using the volume boost switch as a toggle 3) The brightness mod, including a switch to flip between stock brightness, bypass, in between. 4) The mod to make it so the boost works on the clean channel 5) The mod to make it so the foot switch no longer has any discernable delay 6) The mod that allows you to set the bias yourself 7) The "noise gate" mod- I don't really use this one. 8) a knob that lets me tweak the gain for the mesa mod independent of the primary gain know- again, doesn't get used much but was good for figuring out the value resistor I should put in place permanently 9) The R100 mod. I would recommend doing the Mesa, brightness, and clean boost mods before anything else, although the tube bias mod has a pretty noticeably effect as well.

Love the Valveking circuit myself. Very simple, but effective, imo. Fender-ish cleans, and a lead channel that is virtually the Crunch channel from the XXX (with some slight variations). I have the Vk100 Mk1, but I’ve been thinking it would be cool to try out the 20MH version since it has EL84 tubes. Might be able to get a wider array of tones with them when compared to the 6L6GC’s. I just wish they had included a resonance control on the 20MH.

great review!.... love all Peavey stuff. Affordable yet reliable. Not ripping you off the money. Best gear company along with Carvin ... Family ownwd, Not mismanaged by greedy executives like Fender or GibsonMy first amp was a Peavey Backstage plus (30 watts). It gave me countless hours of loud electric guitar. Unfortunately I gave it away 'cause I moved to another country and it wasn't simple back then the 110/ 220 volts issue. ROB: Please review more Peavey stuff, including mixing/ recording consoles if possible. Great job man... keep on rocking!

I own this amp head and I agree - it is a fantastic head for the money. The clean and dirty channels both sound very good. It has enough gain to satisfy almost anyone. Two issues - the dirt channel is so overdriven you can't get a nice light crunch out of it, even with the preamp at 1. You can back down the volume on your guitar and that works, or do what I do and stick a compressor in front of it and back down the volume on that. The second issue is that both channels share an eq, and you can't use one setting for both - the dirt channel wants you to boost the bass, but the clean channel sounds too boomy that way. A minor issue for home and studio, but a gigging guitarist might find it annoying and need something with dedicated eq for each channel. Still, I like this head a lot.

+budgetguitarist.com Oh, and the direct out with simulated speaker sounds pretty good. It sounds a bit different than if you mic up a speaker - but it does still sound good. Tested against a Floor Pod Plus and Amplitube 3, it easily blew them both away for a nice dirty sound.

+budgetguitarist.com Hey bro I have one too, to achieve a good crunch i switch to class A and get a less output pickup. Class ab with a seymour blackouts its full distortion always, try that ;D

I have wore out about 5 bandits in my time, Had the Delta Blues, and several Stereo Chorus amps thru out my time of playing... They are awesome amps. I would love to get a 6505 MH, but first I am going to try and get a Victory Kracken... great video Rob, JP

This amp is very well done. It is my best amp. I do like a Fender G-Dec 3 thirty to the effects loop of the MH20 to make it a great combo modeling amp 😄
