to be honest with the guy i think the stock one sounds much better with the amp its clearer not as fizzy as the green back, has a warmer tone to it, but thats just the video audio you would have to sit in the room and compare the 2, but from the video the stock one sounds much better to me

I think the wider range of the stock speaker mellows out some of the harder edges on the highs, plus it has a much better bass response.

For me the Celestion pulls the amp from under the blanket. The clarity and definition makes a huge difference in the character of the amp... The details of the guitar, pick attack, and player are heard much better... I'm sure it further connects you to the sound, like going from solid state to tube.. Easier to get into that zone... My 2 cents... I tried an Eminence Texas heat in a VYPYR 212 100W 1st gen.... Stock went back in almost immediately

Remember the stock speaker is meant to handle bass and acoustic also... I may be wrong but the bass may blow out the greenback

I purchased the X3 new two months ago. I think the speaker sounds like an old am radio. So much I am considering getting a Peavey Invective MH or a EVH 5150 LBX-S and a cab. I will definitely lose money on this one and spend a lot more on those. But after hearing your video, it sounds like a speaker upgrade might solve it. I am considering the Celestion G12K or Hot 100 because the Greenbacks are low wattage.

Yeah... the Celestions sound great with the amps. I want to try a G12K100 or G12K85 in an X3.

I'm my opinion the celestion speaker give more definition in the mid frequencies. I'm prefer the celestion.

Yeah the celestion might be louder but it sounds like crap. Peavey has always made great speakers. Even the low end ones sound good. I've used celestions and they do sound good in things but they don't sound good in this amp with those settings

The celestion literally has no low end. Sounds cheap and nasty like a bluetooth alexa speaker lol

How is the X2 at handling low volume playing with distortion? Does it have a headphone port?

I love it at lower volumes. I haven't used the headphone port on it myself, but someone on here said it worked great.

@@benchristopher76 Since the x2 is a 40 watt amp and the Greenback is a 25 watt speaker, is there any risk of blowing the speaker? I'm assuming this is fine as long as you keep the volume at a reasonable level?

I have both the Katana MKII 100 watt head with the 2x12 carbinet and the Peavey X2. . They are both great ,they are different ,but I favor the X2 for both home use and the high gain sounds on the X2 outshine the high gain on the Katana if that is what you're into

Does it sound more like the simulated cab when using headphones? For what I play I prefer the headphones sound. Nothing gets lost in a bunch of different sounds every little you can hear with the headphones where as no headphones it sounds just washed out.

It's labeled a Vypyr speaker, but it behaves a lot like a Sheffield with some of the models.

I've been trying to figure out which speaker to put in my vypyr pro 100... The greenback or the eminence cv-75. I write and record in drop C, looking for something with more clarity and articulation. I play modern metal, any ideas?

According to my ears, in most tests except clean sounds, where Celestion was anywhere as good as the Stock speaker. GB was simply unreadable, and clipping so bdly on high frequencies. BTW why do we all , including the author, call it 'Stock' ? Doesn't it have any name on it? By no means am I thinking that GB is bad, imho it's just does not fit nicely in _this_ Peavey amp. Thanks for some Friedman/Megadeth playthrough! \m/ \m/

You could do it, but it would be a super tight fit and would require you to cut the existing front panel to accommodate a 12 inch speaker.
