one thing to note , moving the purlin / ofsseting the purlin may not be every time required unless designer is specific about secondry effect due to he offsets because staad creates a rigid link in the offsetted location by moving the purlin to the top flange will not provide the continuity effect as in case of continuous beam . yeah you will get hogging moment but this will be accurate only if all the bay spacing are equal. the automation of moving the purlin to top flange also is not much of use . staad needs to introudce a feature like similar to autodesk Robot called compatible node where one can define shared nodes with respect to displacement or rotation for the selected degrees of freedom in the points where structure members are connected . this feature can help to simulate continuous purlins more accurately . the other option for continuous purlin modelling is master slave command but that is very tedious....bentley please work on some really useful upgrades , from so many years most of the features in terms of modelling are the just the way how it was earlier ......

if I don't provide offset for channel section will it affect the analysis? What if I provide general section detail for the rafter than also will I have to provide offset? Also for modelling latticed rafter does I have to model all member and lacing or I can use general section properties of main member only neglecting lacing?

After assigned offset to the purlin , we designed rafter , if rafter height is changes we need to change again Offset of purlin Can you please check if any alternative for the same , you have not covered this topic in PEB playlist

In analytical modeler, there is no option available to auto-adjust the offset value and either we can do it manually or automate the process using a custom macro. Alternatively, we can use physical modeler > Cross section position option which internally calculates the offset value and assign it to the member. Program also readjusts the offset value if section changes.

the orientation of purlins are not correct. they can easily overturn because the shear center of the section has a distance with the vertical applied forces. they should be rotated 180 degrees

Hello Surojit,why X bracing are not advised to be connected by a node where they meet?
@surojit_ghosh
@surojit_ghosh 2 жыл бұрын
Not entirely true, connection of bracing member at intersection point depends on several conditions and use of a gusset plate connection at that joint is quite common. There are different configuration also, like one braced member is through, other is sliced or both are sliced at gusset plate location.

Why we are not releasing any moment for purlin??

If the purlins are connected to the rafter using shear connection, we can release the member end moments.

Sir, any section for bracings members assigned will not be problem but the problem comes while designing the bracing connections in RAM connection. It allows only SHS and Double Angles. So what should we do in case if we want to assign cable bracing (which STAAD.Pro doesn't allow). It would be grateful if sir could make one dedicated video entirely for bracing connection designs. Also, IS800 doesn't allow beam-column connection design for non-prismatic sections (ACI code allows connection design for non-prismatic memvers). Will it be safe to use indian standard materials for non-prismatic section but use ACI codes for connection design?

I am not sure which version of RAM Connection you are using, but the allowed sections for bracing member is not limited to SHS & DA. We can use I, channel, angle, SHS, RHS, tube, T, DA, DC, even solid rod section as bracing member. Try the latest version(v 13.8), I think your requirement will be fulfilled. Regarding connection design for non-prismatic section, not sure whether your query is related to IS800 code or RAM Connection. This facility is available in RAM and we can design connections for any non-prismatic/tapered/haunched section. IS code is not good with connection design, hardly any detail is mentioned in this code. Normally AISC code is used for any typical connection design which is not clarified in Indian code.

@@surojit_ghosh sir, My question got little bit confused. My query is purely related to connection design (for bracing and BCF connection). For now I'm using Connect edition version 10. So in the integrated RAM connection, for VXB bracing, the connection design is allowed for only SHS section and for HXB bracing, the bracing connection design is only allowed for double angle back-to-back (considering IS800). I think for others codes also the connection design is only allowed for SHS and double angle sections for VXB and HXB. please correct me if I'm wrong, sir.
