6 жыл бұрын

A season in Tornado Alley capturing tornado videos, lightning, supercells and the occasional horny toad. I witnessed 14 tornadoes, saw a lot of beautiful storm structure and extraordinary lightning. For licensing 4k storm video contact hankschyma@gmail.com
In 2017, roughly 1400 tornadoes touched down in the United States. 14 of those tornadoes were deadly and only 3 of those tornadoes were in Tornado Alley. The tornado season came early this year and by January 23, there were 20 tornado related fatalities... Already more than the previous years totals. Though it was active year, many storm chasers considered 2017 a mediocre year in regards to photogenic tornado activity. Many tornado outbreaks occurred at night and were displaced outside Tornado Alley making them difficult to chase.
January 16 Houston TX tornadoes.
Early in the morning a couple weak tornadoes traversed Houston Texas during morning rush hour causing EF0 damage.
March 26 Ada Oklahoma funnel clouds.
Several funnel clouds loomed over Ada Oklahoma. A couple caused brief spin ups of dust.
March 28 Texas tornadoes.
A couple small tornadoes occurred near Abilene Texas with a photogenic cone topping off the event. Large hail and strong wind accompanied dramatic lightning ripping across the sky.
April 29, Canton Texas tornadoes.
Training supercells riding up a stalled boundary would drop tornadoes one after another in the Eustice and Canton Texas vicinity. The main events were a large EF4 tracking just west of Canton and a large EF3 tracking just east of Canton and striking the community of Fruitvale Texas.
May 9, Cochran County Texas brief tornado.
1 possible tornado and one confirmed brief rope tornado occurred after sunset.
May 16 McClean Texas and Elk City Oklahoma tornadoes
The first tube touched down and decayed near McClean Texas and another EF2 would strike Elk City Oklahoma
May 18, Chester Oklahoma tornadoes.
On a high risk day, a cyclical supercell would drop a few tornadoes near Chester Oklahoma.

Xenil when the sirens go on it is really exiting and also scary. Once on April 9th 2015 I witnessed an ef 4 tornado, it was a big wedge, I will never forget it as long as I live. Look it up
@adventureswithholly7515
@adventureswithholly7515 6 жыл бұрын
Xenil most don't worry too much. Mostly everyone stands outside until the storms get close then we might go take shelter if it looks bad enough. A tornado warning where I live can mean they spotted one 20-30 miles away and the storm it's in is headed in your general direction. Often this complacency can get people killed though.

I love your channel. I've been a storm spotter since 2012, but my story is a little unusual. I became one because I started out astraphobic even though I've studied weather since I was ten (now in my late thirties) Back then the thunderstorms for my location were very mild, hardly any severe warnings to almost every thunderstorm years later becoming severe constantly. So I thought as my original interest turned fear grew to attend a Skywarn certification class so at least despite my growing fear, I could assist in keeping my community safe with reports to the NWS. Fast forward a few years and the tornado warnings started. I was in a couple, one being an waterspout turned EF-0 tornado right outside my mother's home. I worked on my anxiety until one night when I was just getting comfortable with it calming down..but then...I had fallen asleep and all of a sudden I heard something outside, checked my local news app, and saw the radar of this huge TVS knowing it was a waterspout before the weather service even issued a warning. I got my mother up and we sheltered sadly in the bathroom because there's no basement as a result of the water table. What's worse iscthe bathroom has an exterior wall, but we had no choice. The lightning was so frequent and then I heard it pass. It didn't strike us because if it had in the case of the city over, the condo would've been destroyed. It was rated EF-2. So now I'm comfortable with thunder and lightning but tornadoes make me so anxious to a point where I'm embarrassed and yet I still enjoy watching them on videos. I hope my story helps those of you with lilasophobia, I'm slowly working on mine the same way I did my astraphobia, but part of my fear stems from the fact that I have cerebral palsy and I can't drive nor even run in general. I still love meteorology...but it terrifies me when severe warnings happen. Fun Fact: I was born on May 8th so even if I fear tornadoes, they occur frequently in my birthday month. 🌪️

You know, I live in belgium and I've had a strange fascination with tornadoes since I was 11 (which is kind of sad since we don't have them here) and I've searched the entire internet yet I've never come across an account that amazes me so much with footage like yours, not just your videos of tornadoes but storms and lightning too. You're really my favorite youtuber, keep it up! :D

10:38 Thank you Hank for answering the question I was about to ask. I've never seen lightning like that in my life. Growing up in the '90s we had some bad thunderstorms each summer but it's been tapering off and going around us the last decade or so. Now we barely get a few thunderstorms a year here. I live in the SW tip of Michigan's UP, near the WI border. The last tornado happened in 1986 when I was just 1, so I have yet to see one in person.

Hank, man I wanna experience these moments in reality. I'm 30yrs old and have never witnessed a tornado. Couple years back a developing tornado blew over above the house and I stood in the yard as you could hear the roar in the distance as it went over the mountain. Later I had heard that it finally touched down. I lived in Denton Texas for a few years and seen some mean storms. It's south of Jarrell Texas. Or somewhere in that area. Lol. I now live in South East Kentucky and never see such amazing storms. One day I will travel to the plains in the early to mid spring to see mother of nature unleash before my very eyes. I just hope it takes place in an open field where no one is to lose life or property. I appreciate the videos of your awesome work man! Keep it up!

Thank you Pecos Hank for the highlight of the week with this video! If there's anyone who's going to get great footage during a storm season, it's certainly you! Once again I fund your footage majestic, gorgeous, inspirational. And I really thank you for the mention of Kelley Williamson, still missing him and Randy and Corbin. It was a difficult year in some regards (I've been tracking tornadoes using Mesoanalysis data for years now and this year was surprisingly difficult still), but you got some of the best footage out there. So once again, thank you for this art!
