Advice wanted. Want to set up a system with ability to lay down a bass part with a looper such as ditto or flashback4x, play a guitar over the top, looping some of those parts again with a ditto, run two amps and maybe even a small synth to creat a pad. And.....maybe eventually start using stereo effects. This EQD Swiss seems like but would be a good place to start but as this landscape of pedals/amps/devices is so vast it can be hard to know where to start and not throw away too much cash. Living on top of the world, on a mountainside and in isolation...just a life style but out of necessity these days;I’m not young, immune compromised, undependable in health, even I best of times so I just want to be able to make some music with a few tools. It seems as if everything is so possible these days. Love what Andrew Bird does to what Tom Yorke has done with their approach to looping. Some days you’re feeling Fugazi...other days... ELO. Have to figure out the guitar/bass/ soft/LOUD - dynamics but ultimately get adept enough to compose, improvise, record while eventually aiming to incorporate a drum machine/synth. I have to start somewhere. I have the Flashback 4X so I can loop a bass line-with a Jmj bass through a 65’ reverberocket, but would like to a/b/y with a valco, Falcon, or GA40 as all these amps are so different from one another. Keeping the cleans through Ampeg or Falcon and dirty it up with the Valco or Gibson GA40. I have all this great gear and it would be grand to make some big noise, and maybe something with a melody once in awhile. I love that free form of ideas as you never know what it can produce. I would like to eventually get a better looper so I could save a store interesting ideas, almost akin to a scratch pad to keep track of different ideas. Alone..but not lonely-I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has been down this path.

I had one for about 3-4 months now but still figuring out every day since it's such new technology. So I use both single coil and humbuckers and use Lava solderless patch cables, voodoo 4x4 power supply, Polytune 3 in the Tuner out, a Dunlop Volume X expression in the EXP out, Keeley Compressor Plus BEFORE my SWISS Things Y as recommended in the EQD manual, a Boss NS-2 noise gate and a Timmy OD in my Loop 1. I actually leave my Loop 2 empty(because I don't like that the clean boost also boosts my Loop 2(only flaw I discovered in the Swiss Things, the Boost should only Boost Loop 1, so I put my Nova Delay and Boss RV-6 Reverb AFTER the B output of my Swiss Things until I get my 2nd amp for stereo in the future. I leave the Loop 2 empty as a result and just use it as a mute like you guys. I run all this through the front of my Fender Super Champ X2 on the clean channel. So my question, is it better to leave the Compressor in front of the Y input, put it in Loop 1 before my Timmy OD? I'm trying to use my single coil strat but get rid of my Noise Gate via clean isolated power, good solderless Lava patch cables, and good solderless DC power adapter cables. Also final question, with a side chained built in FX looped Boss NS-2 Noise gate, where and how should I wire the NS-2 in the Swiss Thing's signal chain?

So can you have combos of multiple pedals in each loop? So 1 might be 2 fuzz pedal, a reverb and delay, and loop 2 might be trem, reverb and chorus--etc?
@matthewhackett34296 жыл бұрын
Going out stereo of your DL4 would only leave you half of your signal through an ABY. Especially if you have a stereo pedal going into the DL4. Does your old ABY box combine the signals and allow the ability to mute individual outs?

@L.C.Sweeney Жыл бұрын
Interesting that you guys see this thing as a way to have different loop setups so you can consolidate multiple always-on pedals into one chain. That's not what it was designed to do. Each loop is designed to have different I/P and O/P impedances so your tone isn't affected by mismatches. Loop 1 is supposed to be for distortion, fuzz, etc. And loop 2 for modulating pedals. Each to their own, though. If you don't think different types of pedals should be separated to reduce tone-suck then that's fair.
@bettermetalsnake956 жыл бұрын
It's cool but I like to have my modulation in my effects loop and my dirt before the amp so this doesn't meet my particular use case. Also would have been nice if loop 2 at least supported stereo signal via a breakout cable but it seems stereo effects must be placed after the Swiss Things making loop 2 kinda pointless in that scenario. If my amp didn't have an effects loop I'd probably still pounce on this thing.

Verrrry interesting! I'm still looking for the perfect little routing box for my setup, and while I think this isn't it I'm happy to see more things on the market that fall in between "big-ass loop switcher Midi monster" and "ABY box." After getting the Swiss Things, "pedalboard reconciler" really does speak for itself. This is not your normal looper/ABY box, this organizes and cleans up your long signal chain of buffers and true bypasses and on top of that has the cleanest boost I've ever heard. It basically let's you get away with having an amp without an FX loop and Reverb. I have a Laney Cub 15W I bought because I need power attenuation, FX loop, and a real spring reverb box. The Laney Cub 15W/1W attenuation was perfect but if I had the Swiss Things prior to buying my amp, I would've totally bought a different amp without an effects loop and reverb. For the owners of this device and the people who know how to use the Swiss Things to its full potential I run my guitar->Keeley Compressor->Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor(which has it's own FX loop that's designed to run X-wired with your amp's FX loop)in front of my Swiss Things that goes into the Input(Y). FYI, My Boss NS-2 is nicely tucked underneath my pedalboard and fits perfectly and is always on. Because the Boss NS-2 is designed to have it's FX loop used and also goes BEFORE my Swiss Things, I think of it as a 3rd FX loop that's compressed and noise suppressed prior to going in the Swiss Things, and this seems the only proper signal chain that makes the whole system work so far as I am still figuring how to utilize this thing 100%. Obviously my Loop 2 is MXR Carbon Copy Delay->Boss RV-6 Reverb and my Loop 1 is two stacked mini Tube Screamers->Hotone Vow-Press Wah. My Polytune 3 is hooked up to the tuner output and my Hotone Soul-Press Expression pedal is hooked up to the volume output, naturally. Now, everything seems to work fine with this "reconciled" and reorganized signal chain with the Swiss Things being on the top right of my pedalboard just like it's recommended. I run only 1 amp(mono) into Channel B for the Output B Phase noise reduction for additional noise clean up from my strat single coils. I have an MXR Analog Chorus I run in my "3rd FX Loop" in the Boss NS-2 because I didn't want to leave the Boss NS-2's FX loop empty and unused so I figured why not put the Chorus there, it still works, but I think I am most likely not doing this correctly because the Chorus is in a loop that's before the Swiss Things plugged into the Y input(which isn't a loop). Should I leave my Boss NS-2's FX loop just empty and forget about the "3rd FX loop" and put the Chorus in my Loop 2 before my Delay? Or is it fine to just keep the Chorus in the Boss NS-2's FX loop? Or is there a better way to wire the Boss NS-2's effects loop with the Swiss Things? I know it's designed to run in the front and essentially bring out the FX loop from your amp and putting on your pedal board but 2 of them and rendering your amp's FX loop pointless. Sorry, TL;DR, where do I put my Chorus?
