Pedro II: The Coolest Emperor to Ever Live

Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil, was an unbelievably great emperor, a monarch who abolished slavery, a king who built up infrastructure, and a ruler who never once abused his power. He led the Paraguayan war and managed to avoid two with the British Empire. And most importantly, he ended up as a playable character in Sid Meier's Civilization VI.
Pedro II was genuinely one of the most incredible people you probably don't know about. He's been pretty much forgotten at this point outside of Brazil, but he's absolutely somebody that everybody should know about. He's one person that power never managed to corrupt. He remained true to his values throughout his life, and in the end, truly earned the title of Magnanimous.

No wonder all the world leaders suck so bad these days, this guy used up all of humanity's "truly benevolent" sauce. "We've got truly benevolent leader at home." *sigh* "But mum, Venezuela doesn't count! A truly great leader knows when to leave." But seriously, thank you for telling this amazing story. I had never heard a thing about him. I loved that his daughter was pulled a totally metal move that men of the time wouldn't have thought her capable.

Why do you call the nobles/aristocrats "monarchs" I noticed you did that. Im just curious if that would be the proper wording no hate tho.

I figure functionally they're pretty much synonyms. A monarch is a ruler, an aristocrat is a person with a ton of political power, both work in pretty similar ways. Good question

@@thehayze259a monarch is specifically the only ruler (Greek: mono = one). An aristocrat can be a monarch if he is the ruler of a realm. But the word monarch can only be applied to him in regard to this realm. It is uncommon to use the word for the many subjects of a king or emperor when you are talking about him.

The Brazilian anthem used here is the Republican anthem... So not very monarchic
