Wood You Do It

Күн бұрын

Currently, I´m building my workshop interior and decided to build myself an outfeed table/assembly/workbench to incorporate my DeWalt DW745 (European model) table saw. I designed It with SketchUp and build it using 12 10cmx5cm framing wood pine, 1 sheet of 16mm grey Valchromat for the top, and 1 sheet of 12mm OSB for the bottom top. 48 lag screws 6x80mm. The total cost was around 200$ including screws, glue, and casters.
Size:
234cmx100cmx92cm

I watched about 30 "workbench build" videos. Yours stood out as being high-quality work, and possible for a diy'er to build. I modified the drawings on your site to fit my needs and then built it. I wasn't as detailed (sanding everything) as you, but it turned out perfect! Can't say thank you enough!!! I must have watched the video at least 20 times, so I would understand it all. Also, great camera work! Made this video usable for those of us who have no clue how to build a workbench! So much detail, but no wasted time!!!!

@@BigRocketDaddy My biggest issue right now is that the dimensions of the lumber used in the sketchup model is not common lumber sizes in USA (dimensional lumber in the US is not 2"x4" despite being called that, it is actually 1.5"x3.5"). I want to keep my bench corners nice and sharp and precise like in the video, so I'll be ripping the 3.5" dimension down to about 3.25". I note that an additional support was added to the bottom frame for the OSB that doesn't appear in the plans nor as a detail in the build (at the 10:40 point in the build). OK, I just finished a version of this. The plans supplied on the website aren't quite right. I had a lot of math to figure out! I think the conversion from Metric to Imperial was a hair off. In some spots it's like a 1/16', who cares, but in other spots its 3/8' which can throw things off. To add insult to injury building it out of American 2x4's really throws the math out of whack but I'm happy with the final product and thank you Pedro for the inspiration no matter how many times I cursed your name reviewing the plans I didn't mean it!
@WoodYouDoIt
@WoodYouDoIt 3 жыл бұрын
I Jason, It was not my intention to confuse you or someone who uses the plans. Conversion from metric to imperial is always difficult. My advice is to use a metric tape measure and use the metric planes as a reference. But I'm happy to know that you managed to finish the workbench. Send me some pictures over my instagram profile if you have.

Hi Pedro, 10cmx5cm boards roughly convert to 2 inches x 4 inches actual size. In North America, a 2x4 is actually 1.5x3.5 inches. I think people are going to have to get these custom milled if they want to follow the design. Can anyone comment on this aspect?
@WoodYouDoIt
@WoodYouDoIt 4 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that difference between North America. Here in Europe we only use metric. But I guess you're right. Custom milled is the option to follow the disegn. Thanks.

I wonder if standard 2X4” (90mmx45mm) would be sturdy enough? It’s only a tad less timber. I’m on the middle of making my bench and would love to take off more material off the legs to slide onto the corners but wasn’t sure if it would still be strong enough. You have done it with yours and it seems rock solid. I think I’ll give this a go!

I am literally building this today. I have a different model (the DW7485) and need slightly different dimensions but overall I like your design more than the endless others I have looked at on here during the last week or two. I am making my one 100cm wide x 190cm long and only 75cm high from floor including the wheels as need a lower work surface. I am also constructing the uprights from 4x4 lumber but overall will be very very similar. I have just sketched out my revisions over top of yours on paper and now about to begin making the first cuts. I am totally new to wood working so could go horribly wrong! The plans and my modifications seem to all workout on paper and make sense in my head so here goes. Many thanks for the video. Wish me luck for my FIRST EVER woodworking project mate 🍀🤞🏼

Watching you, honestly, is horrifyingly demoralizing. I might as well take my tools and throw them into a river. I do not possess the level of concentration it takes to be this meticulous. The best I manage is, "Well, it's better than nothing". So many scorch marks ... there are almost enough tool burns to convince people I did it on purpose, for aesthetic reasons. All miserable lies. Nope, just too impatient to let my saws cut at their own pace. My grandfather and two of his brothers, all master carpenters, roll in their graves every time I turn on my table-saw. I will download the free plans just to mock myself at the absolute travesty that would unfold if I were to attempt it. You are a god, sir. An absolute unit.
