A fair comparison would have been between No Frills and FreshCo as these are the cheaper sub-brands owned by Loblaws and Sobeys respectively. Loblaws, Sobeys, Longos are all expensive imo and Walmart/Costco is cheaper if you buy them in bulk

Freshco,No frills and Real Canadian offer price matching. Basically you use an app called Flipp and if any of the other places have a deal then you just have to just search and show the flyer on the app at the checkout and they will match the pricing for you.If you prefer PC products then Nofrills will have them cheaper. Please try price matching, I am sure you will save a lot!

Hey Pooja, Just want to inform you that every banner has a market division and a discount division. Freshco is Sobeys’ discount discount. A fair comparison would have been between Loblaws and Sobeys or No Frills (discount of Loblaws) and Freshco. And the info at the start of the video about bids isn’t correct. I am in the Produce section of Loblaws.

Hey Pooja, Good on ya, mate. Did you know that although veggies are graded on the basis of their aesthetically pleasing feature. Plenty of food is wasted across the world to keep up with this standard of grading. In fact, there are plenty of docuseries that talk about wastage of food based on this grading system, even when the food quality is not compromised as a result of their shape. A sustainable way to shop for groceries would be to pick even those that don't look picture perfect so that they aren't discarded. You may already be aware of this situation, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention and others reading through as well. Also, mate - this is no hate mail. Just bringing to light something people rarely talk about. Nice video. Have a great day, friend. From across the world, stuck at home with WFH.

Regarding ethnic food selections These large grocery stores don't carry a standard in terms of ethnic food. They cater to the consumers around them. For a short but blessed period of time my Loblaws carried Jamaican Yams which are really yummy and phenomenal in stew. Sadly they look like tree branches and I was probably the only person buying them so they they soon stopped carrying them :(. This is essentially the process at any but the smallest branches of these super markets go through. They try out lots of different things in their store and if it turns out that the locals really like something then they keep stocking it. If they can't move it they try something else. This process can lead to some unusual mixes in Toronto. One of my local groceries is really good for Greek and South East Asian foods - but you would be hard pressed to find anything from say India. This presumably reflects the demographic of the customers that live closest to it.

This was a really fun video Pooja. I love grocery shopping (Yes I am a man and I am weird that way) as long as it isn't crowded. Although I don't live in Canada it's nice to see videos of the stores there. However it would be better if later on you can do a Sobey's vs Loblaws since those are the main parent brands. Maybe some time down the line. Loving the recent string of videos.

wallmart is actually more expensive then freshco but i think giant tiger and food basics beats freshco in cheap price. Giant tiger sadly is not a very big grocery store and it also sells clothing... Think of it as a mini wallmart but it has everything you'll need to make quite a lot of dishes. They have their own brand called giant value so their quality is both cheap and decent quality tho less choices. Food basics on the other hand is a big boy grocery store it has both lots of choice and the cheapest prices, i mean just look at their name. Ps. Giant tiger has some of craziest deals ever for example once a year they buy a crazy ammount of hotdog saussages and sell them at 0.50$ per 450g with no limit. The cheapest you'll ever see at freshco is 1.49$ for same thing. Sometimes giant tiger has 3$ tourtière (traditional Canadian meat pie) freshco's are usually 10$. Giant tiger also has cheap cheese at 3 or 4 dollars regular price freshco is double that unless its old cheese which they sell at 5$ (500g) but the biggest deal is in spices like seasoned salt (also called as steak spice) for 5$ i got 2 times 440g of it... Any other store will have you pay at least 3$ per 50g. Giant tiger can afford it because its their product: They make it and sell it. If every farmers had their own grocery stores then all retailers including wallmart would go under like target did because you just cant compete with the producers price... Well i guess you could from the producer and resell it at the same price but then you would no longer be a retailer because retailing is buying from the producer and reselling at higher prices. Also because of the way the tax works your products price would get increased regardless. But luckily most producers are either too small or too lazy to have their own stores thats why retailing still works in Canada. Tho many have started to sell online...

thats not a fair comparison: Loblaws sells quality items while freshco sells only the cheap stuff. A fair comparison would be Loblaws vs wallmart, Metro or Farmboy or Jean Coutu. And Freshco should be compared other cheap stores like Food Basics, Dolarama or Giant Tiger. By the way, farmboy is the only store that beats loblaws in quality
