Lucas, we don't know each other but you are one of my acquaintances, through watching all your vids, we all have gotten to know who you are and what you represent. We all appreciate you for your hard work on this channel, and you bring with all that morals, respect, honesty and love for mankind and nature. We all want to hang out with ya for that alone. Imagine hanging out with a stadium full of your friends that share common interests. The crazy man that talks into his camera on 38 acres in eastern Kentucky, is slowly making others to be better humans. And that is what America needs more of these days. Seacliff Steve

Hi Lucas, the bonk on the head didn't hurt, I already had a headache LOL. Glad that you are still thinking about what tractor to get, might as well save and get exactly what you want and need. Blessings

Love the video. On saving for a Tractor, I saved for 30 years to purchase a new Truck when I retire in 4 years. When we moved back to my Great Grandparents very neglected Homestead, I realized we needed a decent sized tractor to accomplish anything here. I will build me a truck. I traded an old 4410 ford Woods Special for 3 Farmall Cubs for gardening. My new TYM HST 574 is for cleaning brush and moving logs for my future sawmill. I am fabricating a 3 pt hitch counter weight that I mentioned on y’all’s podcast. Love all the different topics you do.

@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead I love mine , the hydraulic hose are not in the best place and too many wires under there.. I am using mine to clear my property so there a chance of hooking a hose is high but I didn’t see a skid plate available when I bought it. I did have a limb catch my radiator frame, but just bent it.

As you start to mill a log, even or maybe especially a small log like this, use shims to make sure the pith or middle of the log is on the same height at both ends of the log. This maximizes the useful lumber you can get out of a log. The pith (or core) of hardwood like oak is known for warping while drying, stabilizing it while drying with weight might reduce that but I am not sure if that would work long-term. This is the reason most mills do not use the pith in their lumber. Softwoods like pine don't suffer from this problem and usually can be used in full. Nathan, from "Out of the woods" usually uses the pith of hardwood as dunnage, ie the big blocks under a stack of wood that keep it up from the ground so his forks can get under the stack to pick it up.

G'day Lucas: nice work on the log. Yes you can get almost any size lumber that you need for your shed. Good that the kids are doing fine. Mine are always doing something and have their own businesses going. The economy, thanks to our liberal government, is slow here but the kids are making a go of it. Take care and stay safe. PS: my head is fine now after your log hit it. 😀😀

I've been curious on how small a log I can mill. Depending on what you need it for, a 50 plus horsepower Kabota is worth it. I have a 32 HP Kabota and for some things it's under powered.

Lucas, how long do you typically dry your lumber before using it? God Bless

If I’m building with it I use it green. I’ve not had any issues. I have this most recent lumber stacked and drying mainly because I’m stockpiling to get ready to start the build.

Are you going to lease or purchase the new tractor outright? Leasing has some serious insurance advantages if the lease costs are reasonable.

@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead You need to ask about lease-to-own and maybe rethink Kubota. I was going to buy my B2601, but then the farmers in the parking lot told me about Kubota Leasing. They said that I would be crazy to purchase. I leased because the insurance alone made the difference. If you buy, you will have to get insurance-in my case, the insurance was a big saving through the lease contract -and I also kept my money in the bank. At the end of the day, the monthly payment is probably the value you get from the tractor each month, and you own it at the end of the lease period. It is a rental plan, with all the money going toward the purchase at today's unit price. When I got my B2601 they offered 0% and a small leasing setup fee added to the price. For me, it meant that I could add a backhoe - for you, it might be stepping up to the next model. Kubota leasing is a rent to own contract.
