The creator of this lost his job and the respect of people because of the disturbing film. Little did they know, this is the first slasher film and inspired millions of movies and thousands of game. It's diamond of the horror history. Too bad he died knowing people disliked him and his work.

Damned on release, Peeping Tom is now considered a classic horror film. Michael Powell's vision of the camera as a point-of-view weapon was too challenging for the era I guess. It's a creepy and unnerving film even now.

I have been watching Giallo films and KZbin recommended this for me. Obviously not Italian and not a slasher film, therefore not Giallo. But the Eastman color, it was shot in, gives it a similar look. The story is easy to follow and makes you care about Mark, at least sympathize with him. Rarely is the serial killer the character we care most about in a movie. Voyuerism, social anxiety, mental illness, man's reliance upon technology. These topics have only grown in relevancy since 1960. Brilliant film.

Does anyone know the name of the percussive song that plays through most of this trailer? Is it part of Brian Easdale's score, or is it a licensed song? There's never been a soundtrack release for Peeping Tom, except for one track on the History of Horror compilation from 2000. That track is a piano medley and doesn't include the song in the trailer, which Moira Shearer dances to in the film. IMDb doesn't list any soundtrack details for this film, so no help there. Any help?

I've never understood why this film was singled out for such a lambasting for being sick and violent. Orson Welles' "A Touch of Evil" (1958) featured a gang rape, "Anna and the King of Siam" (1946) included a horrifyingly brutal scene in which a young woman is burnt alive, "Kiss of Death" (1947) is famous for its scene in which an old woman is shoved down a staircase in a wheelchair; the list goes on. And of course, "Psycho", made the same year as " Peeping Tom", contains the famous 'shower scene'. None of those films were dragged through the mud for their violence the way that "Peeping Tom" was.

Like another comment explained It's because it was too sympathetic and it doesn't end with him going to jail or getting killed. People were disturbed by the morbid grounded reality of the film in a way that was never shown before. Nowadays people praise this morbid ground with films like Taxi Driver, Night Crawler, and Joker being so successful.

This was one SERIOUSLY creeped-out and degenerate movie. When it first came out in good old, buttoned-down, pre-Beatles England back in the 1950s, the Blimps and "Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" types went nuts. Considering what England has become since, they kind of had a point.

This movie was released a few months before Hitchcocks Psycho. Psycho being the one remembered. It is easy to see why. A polished movie. Peeping Tom had the capacity to be remembered but has become yet another cult movie sadly though I don't even believe it is. The upbeat music featured in this movie was quite fashionable in that era dates the movie. It doesn't add to the atmosphere for cult reasons. What does Hitchcock do over a decade later? Releases Frenzy.
