Definitely have Andi on again, and you really have to do The Hunger (I know you mentioned that, but I second that). You also mentioned Jenny's/Screech's/Violet's Tale. Definitely. In addition, I think he'd get a kick out of "Losing It (FISHER rap retake)" -- serious bars and flows, but musically really different. "Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake)" is also really good. To top it all off, he has to see Chalk Outlines at some point!

His mom was a music teacher. I think it probably doesn't happen often in the streets as often bc most places require a permit. You see street performers in New Orleans. He is extremely humble. He wasn't aware of all the reaction videos until a few weeks ago. It was his birthday & his friends were waiting for him while he watched one. He was so moved. I'm so happy for him. I almost missed the Ren train. Two days after Hi Ren kept popping on my list. I was annoyed. I considered checking it out bc I kept skipping it. Saw it was 9 mins. Skipped. Gave in. Almost turned it off before he started yolding. I couldn't find my damn remote. Before I found it, I became extremely intrigued. By the end I was completely floored! I watched Ren 5 more times to wrap my brain around this song. Then I watched Violet's Tale. Then I went to Tale of Jenny & Screech. Then his stuff with The Big Push. Chalk Outlines. I can't hear him & not dance. So very very for happy him. ❤❤

Go watch his interview with Justin Hawkins. He took two music classes only, and his brain just doesn’t work the way they were trying to teach him. He taught himself with a LOT of practice. Decades of practice. Watching KZbin videos.
@tangledfish
@tangledfish Жыл бұрын
@@cindyd.01 That's the key point, practice. Whether you're in a classroom taking lectures or watching youtube videos, the most important part of learning music is the effort you put in to practice. It takes years of constant work to get to the level of performers like Ren (or Justin Hawkins for that matter, love the Darkness). The specific road is less important than the 10,000 steps taken along it.

In the interview with Justin Hawkins he just did he got into a little bit of his guitar learnings. He said he tried doing lessons a couple times but couldn't do it because he is extremely ADHD. He did most of his learning off youtube being stuck in bed 23hrs a day. He would also hear things and try to mimic it. One thing that blew my mind was when he said he recognized shapes on the guitar. He was doing a bit of the pentatonic scale and said this one looks like Wales. Love the reactions with Andy and what he brings to them.

Chinchillas told Cris Liepe - that she had never busked before Ren got her out on the street making music- now she quite enjoys it On the Other hand - it is said Ren was walking home with minimal equipment post busking. He passed Sam Tompkins singing without equipment or audience- He could barely hear him- but could recognize talent. Ren walked up and told Sam and told him if he had a mic he would draw a crowd. Ren set up hi equipment - accompanied Sam on guitar while he sang - they drew a crowd and are friends/ collaborators ever since

Dear pegasus, in regards to your comment about busking being a cultural thing, well busking is big everywhere in Europe, it an amazing way to make some money and to get discovered as well. Not only in the Uk, but in Ireland, Italy, France, and Greece (i am sure there other places as well but i only mention the ones i have been to and watched amazing buskers) and yeah the crowds can get pretty wild if they busker is good, most have an amazing following as well and they post on social media where they are going to be so their fans can go. Its like a street concert, for me the absolute best way to enjoy live music, you get your coffee or what ever, contribute to the artist and then sit back and enjoy the shit out of their performance. Raw no fancy lights, autotune, dancers and all the other shit you see in "real" concerts that take away from the pure essence of music. Lots of love from Greece, stay healthy and safe.

I'm a classically trained, 70 year old flutist/pianist married to a rock musician. I grew up with a Dad who was a classically trained pianist who left home at 17 to join a jazz band. My 2 sons were into rap, hip hop, and electronic music, all of which I've developed an appreciation for. My oldest son is a spoken word poet and educator. This background and life experience helps me to understand, love, and deeply respect Ren's music on so many different levels. As everyone who's listened to him already knows, his musical skill, song writing talent, lyrics, and performance ability are all crazy incredible. I've been so impressed by his breadth of knowledge, which comes across in the many references to people and events from way before his time. But one of the greatest things about Ren is the fact that people across all ages and backgrounds fall in love with him as soon as his music finds them. He has a way of touching people profoundly, such that we all fall down the rabbit hole and feel we've found a community of kindred spirits. In addition to his musical genius, his humility, humor, grace, and authenticity endear him to us. On top of that, he's introduced us to many other great musicians he's worked with. More rabbit holes to explore. Love your reactions. Your genuine enjoyment and appreciation of Ren's talents and your desire to share his music with others make watching your reaction videos a lot of fun. Please continue to bring Andiroo and other artists in. I enjoy the contributions of people with different skill sets and perspectives. Many thanks and keep sharing! 💜💜💜

American living here now- as far as the busking goes, most cities have an actual schedule for busking and I assume Brighton does though I haven't been there. I go to Bath a lot and was in Bristol a bit last summer and of course everywhere in London there is usually busking of some uh, differing qualities shall we say. I hate I never got to run across Ren in Bath when he was younger. That would have been an experience. But if you want to hear a fifteen minute long version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah done on a broken trombone ya gotta go to Bristol. It was ... memorable and impossible to get away from. But yes, busking is everywhere and I hope it never goes away even though I'm pretty sure I've missed my chance to see Ren busking, I am going to Brighton this summer to check out the scene.

I love Andy's analysis so much. Absolutely bring him back! I'd love to see a Jenny and Screech reaction and The Hunger.

Busking happens all over England. It is less common to see a whole band. Often, just one or 2 people singing/playing together.
