The mercury bar is dope! "Ready? I'm heavy, I'm Mercury, I'm Freddy" So many meanings in a short line. Cause mercury is an liquid metal. Heavyweight and dense as you said. Ren's music it also is, because his lyrics can be short and so full of different meanings. But it is also liquid so it flows as water and Ren does it with his rap. In the other hand, Mercury in roman mythology is the messenger of the gods, also the god of eloquence and comunication. And last but not least, Freddy Mercury. A multifaceted artist and an icon in music history. Ren is also a multifaceted artist and a genius. Time will tell if he becomes an icon in music history. This is crazy!

@Black Pegasus: Bamm! at 22:55 you nailed it. Art is about others getting "artsy", about inspiration. And Ren truely made an Impact already. It is a challenge for musicians, but nor a violent one. There is nothing to lose, only to gain. I am in my mid 50s now, fought more than half my life with autoimmunity (but totally different from Ren) was a DJ for 30 years (by no means at all, not even locally, a big one, but passionate...) and listening to Ren is a true huge quarry of relating to movies and music history, and that I love very much. If that is clumsily worded, I am sorry for that. Greetz from germany! Love your reactions.
@bercio Жыл бұрын
Great reaction video... thanks to Ren's shoutout to your channel, I am falling into your rabbit hole! I just realized a pattern in Ren's compositions that keeps showing up. I don't know if it has an official English lit or poetry name, but I'm gonna call it the Ren Yoda flow. He sets up his lyrics with backwards wording; the preceding phrase is given meaning in the following one. For example, '11' and 'demigorgon' is followed by "strangest thing," "I'm heavy, I'm Mercury, I am Freddy" (heavy metal, Freddy Mercury), or "I'm in your hood and I'm robbing." The pattern builds upon the previous backward phrasing and advances, especially The Hunger. If you listen for it, the double meanings and clever juxtapositions jump out.

I've been a metalhead for almost 20 years and Ren is THE artist who is actually getting me interested in hiphop/rap. And after hearing you guys talk about it, I think it's more than the delivery and bending of genres I've noticed as well - the connection I feel might be the mental health struggles I've had and that he's talking about. Metal lyrics are typically about stuff other genres think should not be talked about, and that's what he has in common with the genre. Freddie Mercury is definitely not heavy metal, though :'D he's stage rock / glam rock. (Sorry if my language seems clunky, English is not my mother tongue.)

I'm a pretty old fogey and there has never been a day in my life up until a couple months ago that I would have even considered rap is anyting I want to listen to you for any reason I could conceive. Actually not even in the thought process. NOW. I see it differently not only through rennes who is the catalyst but through the folks reacting who aren't talking about concepts and wrap that I am hearing the first time. Add hip-hop there because I'm still figuring how that connects and exactly what it is with rap.

I love the fact that you're actually talking about this shit, not just reacting for likes. The breakdown you gave of how you guard yourself, when it comes to emotional content...I think everyone does that. That's why Ren is different. It's one thing to talk emotionally, but a complete other ballgame when it comes to spilling the beans on your entire personal situation, the ups and downs. People are largely trained to keep things close to their chest and put out an image. It's so refreshing to ride along on somebody's real life journey, whilst enjoying pure talent. It's a fine line for him, he's been very Ill and could easily be sidelined as such, but he has The Hunger to be noticed for what he can do and that drives him. What an amazing soul....right? As someone who's struggled with depression for the last 29 or so years of my life, he's like a warrior out here ... massive respect for it.

And see how easy Ren's made it to openly discuss mental health and personal issues Publically - that demon that normally fills us with embarrassment and shame and isolates us further into it's dark clutches. That's the Power of Ren - imo he's a celestial being, a Warrior of Light helping open a Portal, a safer space amongst his Collective to shine a Light on our own shadows and literally fight, as he prophecised at the tender age of 17, that he would defeat the forces of evil- from the darkness that holds many of us, to the greedy giant money machine industries of music, pharma and healthcare etc that merely keep us caged and a sick society

Ren said: " I never usually break down my own words because I love letting people apply their own meaning, but there was one line I wanted to explain. The title of the song. Alot of people took this to mean "The greatest Of Our Time" "Look for all the answers that I never seem to find, Till then I guess I'm still the illest of our time" Its my reluctance to be the illest - the clue is in the word 'guess' - ive spent the better part of a decade looking for solutions to the damage lyme disease dealt with countless doctors visits, and am still in that boat. "Illest" can also mean "dopest" "best" etc. So it's a bit of a double entendre. Same as "Sick boi" This theme is repeated with the line "elementary dear Watson you might find" cause Sherlock Holmes was always searching for the clues to piece the puzzle together, which is very relatable when trying to piece together parts of a very complex health picture, anyone with a very complex illness will relate to almost having to become your own detective. And finally "A pathologic entity - if eveything is set in stone then this is how its meant to be" Acceptance that this might just be the cards I've been dealt. To search for answers and simultaneously accept that chronic illnest may be your fate is a bit of a paradox because it is the rejection of acceptance that spurs you forward in the persuit of answers, but it is the acceptance that you may always be sick that let's you lead a more peaceful life... so one must walk this contradictory line between both opposing states to have the motivation to find the answers whilst not being so outcome dependent. Still haven't mastered this, but think it's an interesting concept."

his flow is so smooth and catchy it's so easy to recite a major part of his tracks like they were spoken-word poetry. it reminds me of studying the classics and having to memorize someone like Shakespeare or Cummings or Wilde where the structure is so solid and you just naturally ride it. a very far departure as a comparison, but one of my favorite comedians is Anthony Jeselnik, and they have a similar quality where their writing and delivery are perfect, couldn't add or misplace a word because it's so artfully crafted, on purpose, and the results are fantastic

I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago (ironically enough right around the time that Hi Ren was blowing up) and I have to tell you that you've quickly become one of my favorite channels on YT. Your attitude & energy is quite positive and infectious. Its really refreshing in a world where people would rather tear each other down instead of support each other. And much like yourselves and thousands of other people, I have never experienced anything like Ren before. He spoke on twitch about the symbolism of the animals- the pig in particular by saying Essentially " I know what it means to me, but I don't want to say as I really enjoy reading what it means to all of you- it's inspiring to me." Like a true entertainer he won't give the crowd "4" only "2+2" and allow them to find their own answer. That's how great stories are meant to be told and how timeless songs grow to be.

The part about psychopathic tendencies in the lift, with all the animal heads, combined with his Pre-Drop post on his YT channel using the words "twisted retro" AND the vocal effect during that part, is exactly the vocal effects that Twiztid with Psychopathic Records used back in the day. I think it was a clever nod to that early late 90's 2000's sub culture hip hop. maybe i'm reading too much into it, and it's just coincidental, but Ren seems deep and smart enough to be the type to do something like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Im abt 1/2 way through your analysis, I watched the premiere. What I hear is a challenge to all artists to be change agents and address what is normally "socially unacceptable". He also referenced, he's physically ill and he's doing what he can to make a difference in this world. Depression being a blessing because if your a student rather than a victim, you learn to align with your intuition.
