He's talking about the dream. The problem right now is we're making it so confusing, complicated, and difficult that people can't even figure out what the right way is. The boarder crisis we're having is about people trying to come here the right way and we just don't know what to do about it.

My uncle was the most recent, from Mexico City, but my mother’s family came from Germany via Canada. Three brothers going through the immigration lines to end up with three different spellings of the same last name 🇺🇸⚓️🇺🇸 back in 1910. My grandmother was born in Detroit in 1911. Both integrated and relinquished citizenship to any other country. However I think that my uncle did it a tad differently by making sure that his kids (and cousins) had Spanish in the home just as much as English. My grandparents parents said we in America now speak only English. And I didn’t really think I missed out on anything until I had children of my own and could not pass on to them the German language.
@4302arod28 күн бұрын
@@lillianmaybriggs5358 Thank you for sharing! I am fluent in both English and Spanish. No one should every leave their culture behind. You are not a complete idiot for saying this, because you obviously have room to improve on your idiocy. The time frame he is referring to only had one law to obey in order to get into America. You had to prove you did not have a communicable disease. There were no other tests or limits to who could come. If you could afford the boat fare, you came. If you weren't sick, you stayed. Remember, those immigrants were the grandparents and great grandparents (or earlier) of the people who are now saying we need to keep "feriners" out.

@epfanforever28 күн бұрын
@@reddragonready True. But please remember, this is wartime, many that escaped could have been Spies, the number one factor was to keep the USA safe and free from the fighting coming here. Times were very different then, you couldn't simply jump on the internet to Vet someone, even making overseas phone calls was very difficult. Can't say I agree or disagree with the decision, but I do know we were kept safe, and helped keep other countries safe. The US accepted more immigrants and most Jewish than any other country during this time, and sadly turned away thousands and thousands.

@terri249428 күн бұрын
I second the recommendation of “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”. A little background on the song: Neil wrote it and released it as a solo. Barbra then did a cover version. A DJ spliced the two versions together and played it on the radio and people loved it. Neil and Barbra, who went to the same high school and were in choir together, then recorded it as duet. Neil had a busy schedule and I don’t think he usually went to awards shows. Barbra developed severe stage fright early in her career and for 27 years she rarely performed in public. At the 1980 Grammy Awards there was a commercial break and then a few moments of silence. Without an announcement, two figures emerged from opposite sides of the stage, walking towards each other and into the light. It was a total surprise, and when the audience realized it was Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand they went nuts. That’s the performance to watch.

He's My Brother (Song recorded by The Hollies) 20) Play Me 21) I Am... I Said 22) Song Sung Blue 23) Longfellow Serenade 24) Desiree 25) Forever In Blue Jeans 26) You Don't Bring Me Flowers (Duet with Barbra Streisand 27) Love On The Rocks 28) Heartlight (Beautiful song about ET from the David Spielberg movie). ** Lastly, there's an awesome song not on this 3 CD set. This is from the film The Jazz Singer. The guy in the audience wearing the yarmulke plays his father (I think it was Sir Lawrence Olivier). Neil Diamond is a prolific songwriter. He wrote this and 90% of the songs he performed. You should check out Brother Love's Salvation Show (the BBC version is excellent because it has a spoken intro by Neil that's very relevant to how he came to write the song). He's a Jewish boy from New York who was on a spiritual journey which you can see in his music, particularly in the Jonathan Livingston Seagull album. He can also do country! In the Hot August Night concert he performed a couple, including You're So Sweet (Horseflies Keep Hanging 'Round Your Face!). He was hospitalized after that concert for exhaustion and dehydration. There is a concert album with is a must listen. I was fortunate enough to see him in concert twice. He put on one hell of a show.

Love love love Neil Diamond. He was a remarkable songwriter and performer. I know he is not well these day and I pray for him all the time!

Neil Diamond is a true classic. He sang with Barbra Streisand - You Don't Bring Me Flowers. I know how you feel about Barbra so it's fitting that you react to that duet soon. Keep digging up the classics though. I am enjoying you experiencing them all!

Watch the 1980 Grammy Awards performance. It was a complete surprise to the audience when they walked out on stage.

Trivia - Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand went to the same high school and sang in its choir, I think they were a couple of years apart so they were not in the choir at the same time.
@terri249427 күн бұрын
@@justwondering5651 From what I’ve read multiple places on the internet (which is never wrong, you know) they were in choir together. I don’t know if they were in the same class but they were both there together for at least one year.

If i remember correctly, i believe Neil Diamond said in an interview that this song was his gift to his grandparents who had to flee Russia due to Jewish oppression. Such a beautiful song and story. Definitely check out Forever In Blue Jeans, one of my favorites by him

This video is from the movie The Jazz Singer (the 1980 remake). Neil Diamond is playing a singer who chooses to become a pop singer rather than become the cantor (the singer who leads the Jewish religious services) that his father wants him to be.

When I hear this song it makes me think of my grandparents coming by boat to this country from Scotland. They were young adults leaving their families and everything they knew to come to the unknown. Hoping to have a better life for themselves and their future children.

Neil recorded YOU DON’T BRING ME FLOWERS and so did Barbra Streisand, both had big hits with it. Some DJ got the great idea to do a mix of them both singing the song. An even bigger hit, I believe they actually performed it together. A must hear for you.

Neil Diamond was a little before my time but this song is epic. This was released in 1980, when Reagan was elected and optimism exploded in the U.S. The world wanted everything American - blue jeans, Coca Cola, etc. This song was a perfect fit for the spirit of the times.

Welcome to the Neil Diamond rabbit hole. We saw him in concert so many times and he can really draw in the crowd. He is an amazing performer, this song comes from the movie The Jazz Singer, very good movie. Try his signature song I Am I Said, or Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show.

The lady looking at the old Jewish man is Lucy Arnez ( Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez's daughter) and the man is Sir Laurence Olivier. As many have said this is a. Remake of Al Jolson's The Jazz Singer.

I love seeing new people discovering how good of a song writer Neil Diamond was. Fun fact he also wrote songs for other people including “I’m a Believer” sung by the Monkees and Smash Mouth in The movie Shrek. My mom’s fav was neil diamond and I didn’t appreciate his music growing up but when I left home and became homesick for my parents I ended up listening to Neil a lot and I love his music. Seeing him in concert with my mom a few years ago is one of my most treasure memories and he could still really belt it out in his 70s lol
